Murphs Bearinged Up Shifter 5
« on: July 08, 2012, 12:05:56 PM »
Well, every one at the time was getting one of these so I did as well.  Very well made IMHO.  However, it did nothing for me regarding shifting.  Couldn't tell the difference.  I'm not going to say it was a waste of money as it didn't really cost that much, but to me it nearly was.  I'm rating it a 5.

I have heard that the plastic part it replaces wears out and then shifting gets ugly.  So perhaps putting that on a bike without the problem made the change unnoticeable but you prevented that failure in the future?

praps, praps not.  It's an upgrade from what was there, of course, but is it worth the money?  I'm leaning towards not...although it isn't very expensive as upgrades go.

Couldn't tell the difference, myself.  I wasn't missing shifts before and didn't miss any afterwards.

- what plastic part ?

- there are no plastic parts on my shifter assembly (2012 model).

The sleeve is plastic.

I agree with Jim. I really didn’t notice any difference either. I’ve never missed a shift, before or after this mod. The mod made me feel better though.    :)

Nope.  Will do that this spring.  Also have to change out the front forks oil and clean the fuel pump.  Just got my spare in for that.

The sleeve is plastic.

- have removed the gear change assembly a number of times to clean and re-grease it. There is no plastic sleeve on my 2012. There is a visible metal sleeve pressed into the aluminium gear pedal.

Good idea. What did you have to pay for the used pump?

Me too ..... and I have paid a lot more $$ just for "feel good" items in the past. :-)  All in all, for the small amount of money, a bearing has got to be better than a plastic sleeve.
