35mm camera shoe mount flash questions
« on: June 15, 2011, 07:03:06 PM »
I want to get a shoe mount flash unit for my 1977 Minolta SRT200. My question is about the various numbers I'm seeing on units, for instance, 28 auto, 80px, 128 auto, 132 auto px, and the numbers go to 360px, what do these mean? These are used and near new units that cost about $6-50 on a used equipment site. I'm not a pro, I'm just having fun with an old camera and need a flash unit to take some indoor or low light photos. Thanks.

Those are model #'s of the flash units. They are Minolta specific flashes. They all use TTL flash technology.

The Minolta SRT200 is too old to be able to do TTL (through the lens) flash photography. All that matters is the guide number of the flash (how bright it gets at maximum) and the flash sync speed of the camera (the fastest shutter speed you can use and get a fully-exposed negative - on the SRT200 it's 1/60 second). If you're looking to learn flash photography I have an old Minolta Auto 132X flash unit with a crack in the flash lens sitting around; you're welcome to it if you want to pay the shipping. I don't think the crack will make a difference (I just noticed it myself). I'll see if it will fit in a USPS prepaid mailer; then shipping would be like $5.
I'm heading out to Laconia tomorrow morning, so I could send it Monday or Tuesday.

Pfft; I'm not using it...you're welcome to it. I doubt it's worth much more than $5 with the crack anyway. When I get back from New Hamsha I'll box it up and send you a message about how much and where to.

D'oh!
I'm sorry man; I totally forgot about you. I boxed it and shipped it today; you should get it Thursday (2-day was 23¢ more). Don't worry about the shipping; I feel bad I made you wait, and thanks for not sending me an angry "WTF???!!!???" message.
If you think it's bad dealing with a no-mind, just imagine what it's like being a no-mind. Anyway, it's on its way.

Hey YOss, forget about it, you are sending me something cool you have no use for. You won't get a complaint outta me. I'm in no hurry when it comes to old stuff. Thank you very much again, it is much appreciated, and I'll be using it when recording my shooting experiences at Perry next month.
