Sat Sept 10 - start of Blue Ridge Parkway trip
« on: September 09, 2016, 07:25:48 AM »
Trickling from Ottawa, ON, to Cherokee, NC (and back) next week via the Skyline Drive and the Blue Ridge Parkway. If you see a slightly dirty red 2001 C10, wave.

No hurricanes forecast, looks like good weather for riding and camping.

Have a great trip. Wish I could go along.
Have done it many times. It never gets old.

Great ride there. Was only a bit away from you in Boone, Blowing Rock NC area. HWY 221 from Linville NC to Blowing Rock NC is a great ride as well, lots of twist and turns without all the traffic.

This week is supposed to be very nice day time temps with some pretty cool nights.  At least here in Northern VA.

Back in Ottawa after a great week of riding.

Sat. thru Thurs. were clear and sunny, Fri. thru Sun. cloudy. Hardly any rain during the day, only had to put on rain gear once for about 20 minutes near Mt. Mitchell. Lots of rain Thurs., Fri. and Sat. nights, good test for the Ledge tent, kept me dry.

What I learned is that cloudy weather is better for cornering, at least on roads surrounded by trees. In bright sunshine, you can't see into a shaded curve, so you have to be a bit more conservative. Give me cloudy anytime, as long as it's not accompanied by rain.

Tried a couple of new restaurants in Front Royal, Pave Mint (pub) and Element ($$), both excellent.

Disappointed in the life of the front tire. The first K701 I had lasted 16,000 km, this one is shot after 10,000.

About 4000 km, 42.7 mi/USgal, bike ran perfectly.
