A lesson I've learned the hard way over many years is, No matter what, before you rest the bike on the side stand, Kick it forward. NO MATTER WHAT!

it depends on what side of the equator you're on.  Just like hurricanes/typhoons spin clockwise or counterclockwise depending on hemisphere, so goes the bike preferential drop side.   :o

The night I bought my first bike, a 1981 Honda GL500, I drove it all the way from Green Bay to Greenfield(a.k.a. Milwaukee) as my first long ride ever.

When I arrived at my house, I stopped on the driveway, dismounted to the left, and promptly had it fall away from me onto its right footpeg and mirror.  Ouch!  I thought I could put down the kickstand after I got off it.  Never applied for a Honda CDA# though.

<snip>

Wouldn't that be an HDA?   ;)

When I bought my 14 almost a year ago it  had a scraped left mirror where someone had tipped it over in a parking lot or something. I bought it thinking I could find a good used one on ebay for cheap and now a year later I still havent found a mirror.lol Apparently everyone who drops the bike does so on the left side. I have only seen a few left  ones and they were scratched up but I always see right mirrors in perfect shape. Of course after a year it doesnt bother me as much as it did when new but maybe one day one will show up on ebay.

There is always the option of spending $150 for a new mirror if it bothers you and you can't find a used one. But on the bright side, you get the mirror bracket as well!  :D

Do what I did. Buy some black reflective tape, and put a stip over where you may or may not have scratched your mirror.

Mr Pepsi, that is exactly what I am going to do. I need to get some more reflective tape as all I have is pretty narrow stuff (maybe 1/4" wide).

I thought of buying some colorite paint in the aerosol can and repainting it but by the time I pay shipping it come out to be around $60 so I figured I would wait for a used one to come up.

My brother! Me too!

Mine was .2 miles on the odometer. I rode her on a trailer and brought her home from the next state.  Rolled her off the trailer and put her on the kickstand. Went to walk away and she started rolling forward. I tried to grab her, but wound up riding her to the ground. And to make insult to injury. I normally always leave my bikes in gear. For some reason, I didn't that day. Yeah I was really distraught with myself over it. It was not a good start. Friday, July 13th, 2007!  :banghead:

  • The C14 is vastly overrated.

if you're good, you can drop it on the front side. :)

As close as I have come with this bike was in Eureka Springs, AR last weekend.  I was going through there on 23 (through the touristy, downtown section).  The road is really, really canted and a pedestrian walked into the road.  Quick stop from 15 mph.  Couldn't get my right foot to the asphalt because I'm really short legged and the massive angle of the road.  I had to slide off the seat, completely to get my foot down before going over.  Had a hard time starting again too.  While I was braking/down shifting, I missed 1st and ended up in neutral.  Being off the bike so far I couldn't reach the shifter.  Good times, good times.
