Yea !! an oil thread -- what a way to kick off the new forum

Honestly, I thought of the Kipass idea myself but just didn't get home from work in time to play it...of course if it wasn't pouring rain here, I might have missed my shot at the oil thread too...I wanna RIDE!!

And it's not just oil, (personally I like the Mobil 4-T) what are the best tires??  I just got a new set of Angels today before the price of oil jacks them up too!!

Seriously though, Steve has got to be kicking himself for missing the shot at the first Kipass thread!    :'(

Synthetic tires are more slippery.

As long as my tires aren't slippery and my oil isn't sticky I will be happy.

I just put in some Rotella 15-40 and a fresh Wix filter today.  Can't hardly beat the price ($14 a gallon) and I have had great luck with it so far.

Yup.....that and the T6 are my favorites! Although I am gonna stick with the Kawi filters, Wix does make excellent filters for sure.

I just ran T6 but since summer weather is here I didn't want to have any problems, so in goes the 15-40.

Problems......that is what heavy equipment and truckers run all year? Sounds like you are buying into FRED's theory on a 5W40 being too thin "no offense Fred", but that is pure hogwash. I run the stuff "all year" in both my bikes and it works fabulous. Bigger and more powerful engines run on 20 weight oils "factory spec", so any 40 weight oil in a motorcycle is gonna work fine.

Forgive my ignorance on the oil topic, but you guys are talking about the normal automotive Rotella T6 you can buy at Walmart or an auto parts store?  I've always been hesitant about running auto oil because of all of the talks about additives messing with a wet clutch.

Plain ole' Rotella from wally world.  I ran it in my old bike and it has worked great in my C14.  From everything I have read there aren't any friction modifiers in Rotella to affect a wet clutch bike.

Yup....they are now fully JASO certified, bikers have been running the stuff for a long time. The Mobil Delvac oils are also excellent, but the Rotella is the most popular and certified for use.

Thanks guys!  Less money on oil = 2 x money on farkles!  Don't ask about the math, it works in my head and somehow I'll convince the wife that's how it works.

Sorry Poke, but Fred has a point with the low viscosity as it affects the right-angle drive gears and the trans gears.  T6 starts with a viscosity at the low range of a 40 weight and it shears to a 30 weight very quickly in the C14.  I've seen oil analyses that show RTS T6 very close to a 20 weight after 3000 miles in a C14.

Now I don't know about you, but I don't want those gears in the right-angle drive to the drive shaft running in a 20 weight oil.  These are basically the same kind of gears that are in the rear drive unit and they run in 75w-90 gear lube.

So, I'm gonna have to agree with Harmon on this one.  There are better oils for the C14 engine than RTS T6 5w-40 such as Rotella 15w-40.  If you change it every 3000 miles, I don't think there would be any major problems with T6, but I wouldn't use it for extended oil change intervals.
