The big metro and joining counties in TX cost you... other factors include; homeownership, occupation, FICO credit score, and the obvious tickets and claims.  Shop around and you may find a cheaper company... make sure you are comparing apples to apples in coverage.

When you shop around and they check your FICO score (they all do anymore), it's a soft hit on your credit record, so they will not count against you, like applying for credit cards.  Just a FYI.

Just moving from Katy TX to Brighton CO, my rates dropped from ~$900 a year to $230.

Some people try to turn back their odometers. Not me, I want people to know "why" I look this way. I've traveled a long way and some of the roads weren't paved.

why are they so high in texas. best rate for me, at age 61 is $1070 per year. clean record, senior citizen. go figure.
have shopped around. my quote was from a guy who writes for progressive here in texas. I hate it when companies try to control you.

I live in TX, am 52, have semi-clean record, full coverage with Allstate for $285 per yr on C14 and SV650 combined.  What's the problem?

Adding C14 rate with Progressive
« Reply #27 on: May 18, 2011, 02:29:04 PM »
I have 500 combined single limit liability and UM with $2,500 Med Pay, with comp and collision on a VFR800 and V-strom.    If I add same coverage for a 2011 C14, through progressive, it'll up my coverage $912 per year.    The UM is a killer.  I am 57 and live in Louisiana.

40 yrs old, clean record, State Farm, 30/60/30 $250 deductable $145/mo for Full coverage in Harris County (Katy)

It cost me $40 more a month to insure than my 2007 GSXR 750. I just don't get it.

WHAT???  You are paying $1,740 a year for full coverage, with a clean record???  Something is seriously wrong.

Look, it is not all about YOU in the forums!
If you wanted only Dallas County insurance, you should have specified in the Subject! ;)

(Hint: This thread could be very useful for many other people comparing rates)

You did start out saying that you thought your insurance was high because you're in Texas  -- we just wanted to let you know your insurance isn't high just because you live in Texas.

If you didn't want to hear the answer, you shouldn't have asked the question......

Us Canadians understand everything is bigger in Texas (well most things ;D) higher insurance rates included LOL. Up here in the great white north I pay $671 a year for full coverage, we have to pay year round even though we are lucky to ride in a good year 7 months.
