Hello Fellow C14 brothers and sisters.  I am going to help setting up a Group Buys for the Engine/Fairings/Saddlebags Guards from MCEnterprises.  Here is the link: http://www.mcenterprises.com/products/search/dsp_searchForm.cfm (http://www.mcenterprises.com/products/search/dsp_searchForm.cfm)

Please do your own research before committing to the Group Buys.  Here is how its going to work:

"Full Price - No Discount - Non Group Buys"
2008-2009 Engine/Fairing guards - $350 + Shipping ($20-$30 per set)
2008-2009 Small Saddle bag guards - $175 + Shipping ($20-$30 per set)
2010-2012 Engine/Fairing guards - $350 + Shipping ($20-$30 per set)

Full Rear Guards - Part#1400-200 - $382.50 + No Shipping Cost

There is a 15% discount with No Shipping Cost 'when' we get to the 15th order!  WOW!!!

Ryan Nichols at MCEnteprises is ready to take the order.  He will take the order individually from this group and ship it out once the dead line is up - 3/23/2012.  He will then charge each member the apporpiate price (depends on how many we ordered).  Please email at rnichols@mcenterprises.com or call 1-866-886-2368 and mention you are from zggtr.

You can just buy the front or the rear or both, 1 address = 1 order!  As of 3/8/2012 - we have already 4 sets ordered.  We just need at least 6 more, then we all can get the max discounts!   ;D

I will keep everyone inform to what's going on along the way.  Like I said, I'm just doing this because I want a set and like to give it back to the C14 brothers and sisters.  Anyway, please PM me with your questions and your order if that is the way we should do it.

Thanks
Boris

UPDATE 3/22/2012: WE ARE AT THE 22ND SET MARK!  MAXIMUM DISCOUNT!

Once you get the details ironed out, update your first post in this thread using the modify button.  I'll then make it a sticky for the length of the buy, assuming it's got a limited lifetime associated with it.

Might I make a suggestion...

Talk to MCE and ask about having a fixed time frame for this group by like you've proposed, but rather than have people give you their CC info and you placing one large order just let them call their order in to MCE.  MCE could easily hold all group buy orders until it expires so they can have a definite total to determine pricing and then process the orders accordingly.

Consider me in, but I'm not trusting my CC info to anyone. (no offense)

2010-2012 Small Saddle bag guards - $175 + Shipping ($20-$30 per set)

"Group Buys - Total of 4 Sets"
2008-2009 Engine/Fairing guards - $332.50 + No Shipping Cost
2008-2009 Small Saddle bag guards - $166.25 + No Shipping Cost
2010-2012 Engine/Fairing guards - $332.50 + No Shipping Cost
2010-2012 Small Saddle bag guards - $166.25 + No Shipping Cost

"Group Buys - Total of 10 Sets"
2008-2009 Engine/Fairing guards - $315 + No Shipping Cost
2008-2009 Small Saddle bag guards - $157.50 + No Shipping Cost
2010-2012 Engine/Fairing guards - $315 + No Shipping Cost
2010-2012 Small Saddle bag guards - $157.50 + No Shipping Cost

Unfortunately the order needs to be placed all at once. This is mainly because they have had a few other "group buys" fall
apart where they say they're going to buy 10 sets, however, only 3 people call to order. So, now when they do group sells, they require that all guards are ordered at the same time. However, they can ship them to you directly.

I certainly don't have a problem taking the order and get a credit card and order it for everyone.  But I can understand that you don't know me from what, so why you should trust me.  I can only tell you that I am honest and straight forward.  Anyhow, if someone have a better suggestion to how we can order it the same time, by all mean, TELL US!

I like to set a limited time for this Group Buys - it will end on 3/23/2012.  I will place the order on Monday 3/26/2012.

I will keep everyone inform to what's going on along the way.  Like I said, I'm just doing this because I want a set and like to give it back to the C14 brothers and sisters.  Anyway, please PM me with your questions and your order if that is the way we should do it.

Thanks
Boris

Ok, I have talk to Ryan Nichols - Sales Manager at MCEnterprises.  He will take the order individually from this group and ship it out once we have the minimum order of 4 sets or 10 sets.  Please email at rnichols@mcenterprises.com or call 1-866-886-2368 and mention you are from zggtr.

I hope this will help.  If you are interested, this is the time to do it!!

I'm hoping that one of you guys has this combo?

I want to take advantage of the good price on the group buy on the MC Enterprise rear guards but I'm wondering if there might be an issue with my Area P slip on? Anyone have this combo?

I know that there's an issue with the stock rear pegs and the MC Enterprise rear guards.

TIA

I will contact Ryan along the way and see if we get to the 10 sets.  We can all help to push it to 10 sets for max discount near the end of the buys 3/23/2012.

Please make sure you contact Ryan Nichols at rnichols@mcenterprises.com or call 1-866-886-2368. Mention you are from zggtr.

Could you be a little more specific on how to order. Do we go through your(IRULE) or direct. Also, I don't want to order if we don't have enough people to get the discount. I plan on getting a set, but only if I get the discount. How will we know if we get it or not.

Email Ryan or call him at MCEnterprises directly.  He will take the order, will not send or charge you until we are ALL ready!  In other word, once we hit the dead line on 3/23/2012 - he will figure out if we have 4 sets or 10 set+ then give us the appropriate discounts.  Then he will charge us and ship it to us individually.

Looks like we have 4 sets ordered already!!  Now, the question is, are we going to get 10 sets for max discount.   ;D

As in, 5 full sets and 5 rear sets = 10?

So if I order a set of fronts and a set of backs that equals 2 orders. I think we should clarify that. If it is not, I will get my daughter who is in a different state to order either the back or front, so it is from a different person with a different last name. I would hate to get 10 orders and they say it is only a complete set, or from different people.

Also, as a suggestion, in the first post keep a list of those who ordered and how many so we can get an accurate count. I would do it, but I can not edit your post.
Title: Re: MCENTERPRISES Guards - GROUP BUYS NOW!!!
Post by: IRULE on March 08, 2012, 04:37:15 PM
To clarify:  1 address, 1 credit card = 1 order!  Order the front and rear at the same time, shipping to the same address is consider 1 order.

I know we can ship it to different addresses (home and work) and use VISA and Mastercard for the transactions, but that would be lying!  Not cool in my opinion!

My wife hates the look of these but since they are substantially cheaper than anything else available I will probably order a set of front and rear.
I did ask if the new canyon cages would be produced for the C14 and they said no...that's a shame as I think they would sell much better...

Ok fellas, I just got off the phone wth Ryan. My order is placed and we're at 6 orders at this moment.

Ryan said that if we can get at least 15 orders that he would knock another 5% off.

This is a good price guys and it's not going to get any better.

G'day everyone! I figured since this group buy has gotten so much attention I may as well just sign up for the forum so I can directly answer any questions regarding the bars themselves, fitment, ordering, etc. without having to relay information. Currently we're up to seven sets (1 customer, 1 credit card, 1 address = 1 order) and orders continue to pour in so we should have no problem hitting 10-15+. If any of you have any questions or would like to order, you can ask me here or email me directly at rnichols@mcenterprises.com.

As I told a few of you on the phone, I have extended the discount to 15% if we can manage to get 15+ sets ordered. With the 15% discount you're looking at paying damn near DEALER cost! You're not going to find a better price than that anywhere, I can promise you that! Keep in mind, we're also paying the shipping for all of you included in the group buy!  8)

Here's an updated list of the pricing with the 5%, 10%, and 15% discounts added for those of you wondering how much the sets will be:

4-9 Sets: Front - $332.50
               Rear - $166.25

10-14 Sets: Front - $315.00
                   Rear - $157.50

15+ Sets: Front - $297.50
                Rear - $148.75

Also, I have attached a copy of the mounting instructions for the 2010-2012 Concours fairing guards to this reply so you guys can check them out and get a feel for what you're about to install. I was going to attach the mounting instructions for the rear sets as well but they're really self-explanatory and take 10 minutes to throw on. However, if you'd like a set of instructions/photos for the 2008-2009 Concours just let me know and I can PM or email those over to you! Anyhow, if any of you have any further questions don't hesitate to ask!

Again a big thx to Boris for taking the initiative in setting this up for all of our benefit.

Thx Boris

The ending date is 3/23/2012.  The reason is because we WANT our farkles!   ;D

All of you are more than welcome! We pride ourselves on being very customer friendly over here at MCE, however, we can't do our job without awesome customers such as yourselves supporting us!

Is the last day to order still March 23. I am trying to see if my finances will swing it at this time.

As of now, the last day is still March 23rd. However, if you'd like to take advantage of the awesome deal the group is getting but can't afford to pay for the bars until a few days after the 23rd I can try and work with you.

If you want, I can take your order, shipping information, and payment information (cards are not charged until the product actually leaves our facility) along with everyone else in the group buy and simply hold the order until your finances are in line. I can't hold it forever but if it's a matter of just a few days, we'd be more than happy to help make that work for you. Either way is cool with me, just let me know what you want to do!

Just wanted to give MC Enterprises bars kudo's for saving my bike, my leg and my wife's leg from ANY damage at all when an unavoidable stop on an uphill, off camber, gravel road resulted in the bike and us falling EVER SO SLOWLY onto our left side.  The tupperwear damage if the bars hadn't been there would have been substantial.  For those who are going in on this buy, I also highly recommend you modify the fairing piece as shown in the attached picture to allow for future removal of the fairing without needing to remove the front MC bar. This also makes installing the bars a little easier. Install bars first, then replace the fairing piece.  Otherwise....you need to thread the bars through the fairing.  In more than 10,000 miles of riding, I have no evidence of any problems with the modification to the fairing piece.

We appreciate the kind words, Armyguns! Most of all, though, I'm glad to hear you, your lady, and your bike are all okay!

Is the shipping included on Canadian orders?

Unfortunately, international shipping is a bit pricier than domestic so we're generally required to charge out-of-country customers for the freight. However, seeing as how this is a special circumstance I'd be willing to work with you on the shipping if it's going to make or break the deal (and help us get to 15 sets!). Generally it costs about $20 to ship a set of the front and rear guards to a domestic recipient. If I cover $20 (granted you order a full set), would you be willing to cover the rest of the shipping cost? I believe the freight for a full set going to Canada is roughly $35.

If anyone here in the forum thinking about getting a set of this awesome guards...THIS IS THE TIME!  Like Ryan said, it WON'T get any better than what we are getting RIGHT NOW!  Well, unless you are a dealer!

We are more than half way there to 15 sets - THIS IS THE TIME TO BUY

Keep in mind you guys that this cutting is not required on '08's & '09's. That's right, these bikes are faster too.    8)

Actually the cutting he's describing isn't required for any of our guards, it's merely a suggestion for those of you who frequently remove the fairing because it allows you to remove the fairing without removing the guards as well.

However, there is another "cut" that is required for the #1400-110 (2010-2012 Concours) that is not required for the #1400-100 (2008-2009 Concours) which I believe is what you were referring to. Please keep in mind though that this cut is NOT into the fairing. The cut is made into a heat deflector that resides beneath the fairing so once the guard is completely installed, the cut will not be visible (I have attached a photo of the cut that needs to be made, it's in "Illustration D, Feature 1"). I truly hope I'm not coming off as an asshole or anything, I'm merely trying to make sure the correct information is out there for everyone. I don't want people making unnecessary, permanent modifications to their fairings!  :)

Phew!

We're currently sitting steady at 8 sets ordered. If I'm not mistaken, only one person ordered yesterday. For those of you waiting for your checks on the 15th, keep in mind that your credit/debit cards will not be charged until the product is actually shipped from our facility on or around the 23rd. All you're doing by ordering now is making sure there is a set reserved for you when the group buy ends (I'm setting sets aside as the orders come in). With how fast these bars sell normally, it would truly behoove those of you who are seriously interested in the guards to get them ordered sooner rather than later. I'd hate to see a serious rider miss out on this great deal because they decided to wait til the last day.

I just added a rear set to my order because I think my passenger needs help lifting herself off of the toilet too.  :rotflmao:

Ryan have you had any complaints about the rear guards hindering the passenger in any way? Does it make it hard to keep their foot on the peg?

Anybody else heard anything or have any experience with this?

The only issue that I've heard of with the rear bars is that the stock passenger foot pegs won't fold up.

If your passenger reads what you said, you won't have to worry about her ever riding with you again anyways.    ;)

I have heard that the small rear guards slightly reduce the space the passenger has to put their foot onto the passenger pegs. I haven't heard of this causing any problems with grip though. I think it's more of a minor comfort issue than anything.

EDIT: Regarding the folding of rear pegs, I haven't heard of anything regarding this personally so I went out and spoke with my Tech. He confirmed that the pegs are indeed limited in their fold by the small rear guards.

I think those Buell's might fold, they're a lil lower than stock right? See the pic, that's Jim's bike and his pegs will fold. If you look at how those bars mount (using the foot peg mount) you can see why the stockers won't fold.

Ryan, can you please clarify what the front bars look like on the 10-12?  Seems there are two different versions that fit the 10-12's, and I'm not sure what the new one looks like. The version with the longer outer bar that extends down is show in the pic on your website here

OR the one's in this thread and pic from Joncon11 does not extend down.

I don't want to steal anyones thread here but I know the answer to this.  Ryan can correct me if needed.

The picture on MC's website was the very first model built for the 2010 Concours.  After using them on the Police bikes and having agencies have hard spills with them, there was a need to make them a little stronger.  The inside vertical bar was lengthened and welded to the outside bar at the bottom bend for more rigidity.  This was the new bar for quite a while. Then after even harder crashes the bars would flex and the bar would dent the bodywork so the very lower part of the bar was shortened to give more clearance to the lower fairing.  The final product for this bar, and I believe the current production, are the bars in Joncon11's photo.  These will be the bars you get for the 2010-12 bikes now.

It is a better design than the original that came about from alot of police bikes testing the strength of the bars. Props to MC for working with our company and Kawasaki in answering the demands that the Agencies were putting on them as far as durability was concerned.  No matter how you slice it, the price of these bars will pay for themselves the first time the bike hits the ground whether by mistake or by accident.  Money well spent.

Precisely this.

We went through a few different designs before we found the one that really worked well and satisfied our customers high expectations. Interestingly enough, we made an even beefier version for one of our customers at one point. However, the extra work proved to be unnecessary as the current design worked great without the added weight of thicker steel plates, gussets, etc.

Thanks for answering, by the way. I don't mind people joining in on the conversation and answering questions as long as they know what they're talking about, as you clearly do!

The 08-09 model is a different animal but similar theories were applied. We took what we learned from the extensive testing done on the 2010-2012 models and applied it to the #1400-100 (for the 08-09 Connie) as well and made some minor changes. The #1400-100 is slightly different than the #1400-110 due to the minor differences in the bikes but, yes, similar design theories were applied to both sets.

I don't know if you've seen the thread that I started over there but I think that I pushed about as hard as I dare. From what Ryan said, COG has only ordered ONE. I'll hit 'em up just a lil more later today maybe.

I think many of the COGers also frequent this site and if they were likely to order they would have ordered here first. Especially  since it was posted here for a couple of days before it was posted there. Also I think they are partial to the to the Top Block anyways.

I don't know the politics between this two sites.  This is just a simple group-buy for a product that we can all use.  Anyway, all of us just wanted to get to 15 sets for max discount.  We still have 1 week left, if we all can push just a little bit harder, we will all benefit from it!

Thanks again in advance.

I was hoping all that was over after the....what are we calling it now...the old site database fail?
I go on both sites for maximum info gain, seems painless.  Perhaps I'm missing sumpthin?  ???

Anyway from this ZGGTRfanticser/COGer, I'm going to order a set of small rear bag guards.
They are closed on Friday so I'll send an email today to get on the list, and call Ryan on Monday
Tuesday with my CC#.

I don't need front bars, just the rears. I have the GSG sliders on the front now.

They ain't as purdy as the Top Blocks but I'd hope that they do the job if needed.

Hey guys! Congrats on hitting the 15 mark! I'll be sure to enter the remaining orders in my company email on Monday and as soon as we begin getting the parts back from our powder coaters I'll start shipping them out for you. Obviously those of you who ordered first will be the first to ship out as you've been waiting the longest. For those of you still on the fence about ordering, you have until the end of next week to mull it over and let me know!

It never hurts to ask! Unfortunately I can't offer you guys any more of a discount beyond the 15% off and free shipping though.

However, depending on sizes and availability, I may be able to offer you a navy blue MC Enterprises shirt at half price! Hahahahaha Other than that, though, I've lowered the price on the bathroom bars as much as I can for you.

I certainly appreciate everyone who has participated in this group buy, though! Thank you all very much!

My wife hates the look of these but since they are substantially cheaper than anything else available I will probably order a set of front and rear.
I did ask if the new canyon cages would be produced for the C14 and they said no...that's a shame as I think they would sell much better...

Reply 50, page 4.  Wondered same and how they would look.

Maybe the producer will listen to the consumer if production is feasible.  I will be ordering a set for the rear and waiting for future options as function gets an A but appearance is not on the same level.  Maybe just maybe another group buy will be in the cards.

Yes- I was wondering the exact same thing.  The "Canyon Cages" looks like something I could tolerate (although I doubt there is a mount point like that for the Concours).... but I just can't swallow the bathroom bars on the font.

However, the small rears look fine to me and could be useful with GSG sliders or Top Block in front.  Like you, I am very tempted to order just the rears for now, since the price is good....  Still thinking....

Hmm, it looks like Jim did that too:  http://www.zggtr.org/index.php?topic=7035.msg83421#msg83421 (http://www.zggtr.org/index.php?topic=7035.msg83421#msg83421)

Yep, Jim is using the GSGs in front and the MCEs in back. That's the same thing that I'll be doing once I get the rear MCEs installed.

Yea, I know the design of our front bars leaves a bit to be desired as far as the style goes. You have to keep in mind that these bars were originally designed specifically for law enforcement so aesthetics took a back seat to functionality and strength.

However, with that being said, I've started talking with the owners about letting me head up a project to get some "Canyon Cage" style bars made for the Connie because we've had such success with the current civilian bars. I'm of the belief that if we did offer a lower-profile Canyon Cage type bar, it'd be insanely popular among the Concours riders. I actually feel as if I'm making some progress with the powers that be but projects like this do take some time so I wouldn't hold your breath quite yet.

Although, if any of you are in the Southern California region and would allow us to borrow your 2010-2012 Concours for a single work week (Monday-Thursday) I'm sure that may help get things going as finding a bike to borrow is usually what takes the most time. Also, if any of you were to be so kind, we'd gladly hook you up with a set of the finished product free of charge! =)

EDIT: I also added a few more photos of the rear guard for the 2011 Concours for whoever it was that asked! The photos are taken on a 2010 but these are the same exact bars that fit the 2011.

If there are more of you in this frame of mind, please let me know. If we have enough interest for a set of "Canyon Cages" for the Concours I'll start a new thread keeping you guys informed of my progress with the owners.

Also, if any of you live close enough to let us borrow your 2010-2012 Connie for a single business week I'm sure that'd help us out tremendously. Locating the bikes alone is what generally ends up taking so much time. Keep in mind, we always give the people who let us use their bikes a free set of the parts we're designing for the bike.  ;D

I was thinking about it this morning and I like the Canyon Cage idea better to but not so sure I want to wait that long to get the protection. If you could get a bike how far out does that get production of cages?

You may have shipped out my order since I was the first one to order so this may not matter anymore huh?

We're going to begin shipping the Group Buy participants' guards tomorrow so it's not too late but a set of Canyon Cages for the Connie would be, at the very least, 6-8 weeks out. Once we find a bike to fit up, the cages generally take about a week to design, then we do an initial production run which takes an additional 4-6 weeks. So, if we had a bike in our shop to start working on on Monday, the ready-to-ship bars would be approximately 2 months out.

Awww, man! If only I lived closer.

But, +1 on interest for the canyon cages for this bike. If it helps your argument with ownership, another manufacturer does make a canyon style for the Connie, but I'd prefer to purchase from MC, since you are now part of our world (plus, the cages you post on the GSXR are gorgeous, even if the pictures aren't in black).

Sounds good!

As for ballpark pricing, our current Canyon Cages for the Yamaha R6 and Suzuki GSXR are approximately $150. Seeing as how the Concours is a bit bigger, heavier, and has trickier mounting points I could see our Canyon Cage for the Connie running around $200, maybe $225 at the most. It really all depends on the amount of machine work that goes into making them which is difficult to estimate until I have the bike in front of me. I would say that $175-$225 is a fair estimate, though.

Ok, so what do canyon cages look like, any pics? I'm all confirmed for a full set of the bathroom variety, despite their looks. I don't want to buy the front set IF another, better looking set becomes available. I do need full protection as I plan on doing police cone course practice to develop my skills on the  Connie and that means high probability of dropping the bike.

Nothing like muddying the waters in the 11th hour!

I'm out of the office for the day by now but as long as you sent over your full name, shipping address, phone number, CC info, year of your Concours, whether you wanted the front guards, rear guards, or both, and preference on finish (chrome or matte black) then we will be good to go! If anything is missing from your email I'll just call you tomorrow when I'm at the office.

Dave

I have attached some photos of Canyon Cages we did for the GSXR and the R6 so you can get an idea of where we'd be going with it. However, on the Concours, I'd like to stay away from those flat brackets as much as realistically possible. Keep in mind though, this is still something I'm working on the owners to let me go through with. I'm going to do my best to get 'em made for you guys but I can't promise anything quite yet. Anyway, check them out and let me know what you think.

I just sent a PM to So Cal Joe to see if he could help out MCE or if he knew anybody down there that would give up there bike for a week.

I would much rather have the canyon cage style than the cop style.

EDIT: I also added a few more photos of the rear guard for the 2011 Concours for whoever it was that asked! The photos are taken on a 2010 but these are the same exact bars that fit the 2011.

Thanks for the additional pics.  I have been torn between the black and silver (chrome).  Still leaning toward the chrome for my Silver bike.   But I have already decided I will be ordering one or the other...

I have decided that the front bars are too institutional looking for me. I just can't bring myself to put them on. I would be much more interested in the canyon carvers.

I had the GSG's on my 2008 and they looked nice even though I doubt the protection was the same level as the MC Enterprise Guards. For my new 2012;
I'll order the 2010-2012 Small Saddle bag guards in black with the group. For the front I can't get myself to ignore the appearance of the Engine/Fairing guards.

For the front I still don't know if I should go for the GSG's or wait for the upcoming Canyon Bars? They are stirring up interest in this thread and I would surely like to see what they are supposed to look like. Any examples? Is it worth the wait? Will we benefit from the group discount if we wait for the develloped product? I know the front Engine and fairing guards are probably what would protect my bike the most in case of a crash but I would ruin my bike's looks with these elephant ears. Can't get over it even if I tell myself 'what a nice place to put fog lights or extra driving lights'.
Help :-\

Only one or two people have revised their orders, not cancelled them completely so we're still way over the mark. Don't worry =)

I have posted some rough examples of Canyon Cages we made for other bikes if you scroll up a tad. I believe the post they're attached to is still on page 13. Keep in mind, our "bathroom bars" we're designed specifically for law enforcement so aesthetics took a backseat to strength and functionality. However, these Canyon Cages will be manufactured with the civilian rider in mind meaning we pay a bit more attention to comfort, passenger comfort, aesthetics, lean angle, etc.

As far as discounts for waiting for the Canyon Cages, I would be willing to offer a discount on the Canyon Cages to those of you who purchased a front set of guards during the group buy. Aside from that, I'd be willing to set up a second group buy for the Canyon Cages if enough people are still interested in them once they're in production.

I'm going to start a new thread for Canyon Cage discussion (http://www.zggtr.org/index.php?topic=7593.0 (http://www.zggtr.org/index.php?topic=7593.0)) because we're getting a bit off-topic for this thread. I'd like to keep this thread focused on the Group-Buy, if at all possible. Anyway, if you're at all interested in Canyon Cages for your Connie or have any questions regarding them, please check out the Canyon Cage thread!

I am looking very seriously at the GSG's for the front now.  I am under no illusions- there is no way they can protect like the bathroom bars could.  The problem, is that I really don't know how much protection they offer- at ALL, at least when combined with the MCE rears.

To me, they look far more interesting than the front bathroom bars.  However, I expect they still have two major drawbacks:  1) I expect they will still require drilling  2) You will have to remove them and then reinstall them every time you need to take the fairings off.

After I get the MCE rear bars installed on my bike I'll snap a pic of how the GSG's upfront and the MCE's in the rear work together. I'm not going to lay my bike down for you fellas but I will drag a 4x8 piece of plywood over to my bike and show you how the bike would look laying on the ground.

You're welcome, buddy!

We shipped one order today but the recipient has escaped me as I'm out of the office for the day now. I've been super busy today so I didn't have a chance to update it while I was at work. I can check who it was and update the information tomorrow morning when I get back in the office. We will be shipping the majority of your orders early to middle of next week when we receive the #1400-310's back from our powder coaters. I hope you all thoroughly enjoy your bars and, as always, keep your shiny side up!

I have seen the drop test video for the "enforcer" style drop bars.  Can i expect the same type of protection with these?  Any lean angle, or width issues?  Anyone have drop reports with these on?

I have seen the drop test video for the "enforcer" style drop bars.  Can i expect the same type of protection with these?  Any lean angle, or width issues?  Anyone have drop reports with these on?

By "enforcer" style do you mean the beefier version of the #1400-100/110 which was in the video I posted or are you referring to another companies bars? If you're referring to the video I posted, yes, you can absolutely expect the same type of protection with the current design. The #1400-100/110's and #1400-300/310's should have absolutely no issue holding up during tip-over situations.

I haven't heard of any lean angle or width issues but if anyone has personally experienced any, please speak up! The widest part of the bike are still the mirrors so anything your mirrors can fit through, you can fit through. The ONLY issue I've heard about our bars come into play when using a cruise control mechanism that mounts to the end of the handle bars. I had one customer that said he laid his bike down at speed and because he had our bars on his bike along with the cruise control, he ran into some issue.

Apparently when the bike went down his cruise control was engaged and our bars held the bike up far enough to where the internal kill switch wasn't activated and the bike was a tad difficult to get under control. However, this seemed a bit weird to me as I've never heard of our bars interfering with the internal kill switch before and we've sold tons of these sets to people all over the world. Besides, it seems like anywhere you'd be using a cruise control wouldn't really be a typical spot to lay your bike down. Generally tip-overs happen when going through curves or at very low speed, neither situation should require cruise control. So, I'm not sure if the guy was embarrassed and embellishing his story because of it or what but that's the only complaint I've personally heard.

Anyhow, yesterday we shipped out one order to J.A. - 42441. The rest of you will be going out Monday-Wednesday next week once we receive our stuff back from the powder coaters!

True, but you would be able to see that the bars really don't stand out that much next to the silver.  Keep in mind that the black can be touched up and the chrome can't. ( aside from a little clear fingernail polish on scratches so they don't rust on chrome).

That is just the optical sight for the Lidar.  It looks big doesn't it.  I figure with the range these have, they would need to have a big optical lense.

Uh.... just too lazy :)   If I *did* do that, I would probably power coat them to be a medium grey, in-between the black and aluminum colors.   But... too lazy.

The problem is that either choice matches about the same to me.  The black has the advantage of easy touch-up, or even painting later.  The chrome has the advantage that it looks a bit cooler.

Well, I can tell you that I won't be laying my C14 down on the ground for you guys. Not that I don't like y'all, I do, just not THAT much.  ;D

I have some 4x8 sheets of plywood in the garage. I'll drag one over to the bike after I get the MSE bars installed and use the ply to simulate a drop. I'll lay the long edge of the ply against the bike's tires where they contact the ground and then bring the ply up till it touches something on the bike. I'll snap some pics of what that something is.

Got my elephant ears in today.  Rears are already installed, but will probably hold off on installing the fronts for a bit since I just got everything back in one piece after doing the CC install last week.

That's really tempting fate, you know that right?     8)

The surest way to never drop your bike is to install drop protection. The surest way to drop it is to have drop protection sitting in the garage uninstalled.    :o

The tricky part will be deciding exactly where to place the plywood on the tires.  A little change in angle there can make a BIG difference.  When the bike is over, where it touches the ground will be further up the tire than when it is standing upright....     but I bet you already thought about that ;)

Seems like a lot of work with the plywood to give us an idea of what we already know, the mce guards will work should the bike tip over.  Simply place a chunk of carpet  under the the guard where it touches the ground and voila an accurate pic.  Want better protection, take some rubber rad tubing and zap strap it around the portion of the guards that will contact the ground and again gently lay the bike over, it will be alright.  If you can't pick up the bike on your own, maybe you should not  ride! (Just kiddin').

Well, I got bored and decided to head out and install my fronts this evening but ran into a snag...

If you have an 08-09 model and have installed the Rosta cruise control be prepared to figure out a new way to mount the brain box as the MCE bars bolt up in the exact same place.  Should still fit in the same place, it's just going to require bending/trimming the mounting bracket to put the box in just the right position as it's real tight in there now.  Have 4 bolts in that general area now with the bars to work with as a mounting point so there's plenty of room for some genuine redneck engineering.

I was wondering what you were talking about when you said that, I was just humoring you.

I installed the rear bars last night, I didn't want to tempt fate myself by riding around with my drop protection sitting in the garage. 10 min job, even in my poorly lit garage.

I didn't drag the plywood over to the bike though, I'll do that sometime soon.

I'm thinking that dragging a sheet of plywood over to my bike will be a LOT easier than trying to slowly lay the bike down and then pick it back up again.

FYI, I can pick the bike up if need be. Sadly, I've had to do it twice.     :(

Mine is already shipped and I have a tracking number showing arrival on Friday!

Finally finished installing the fronts...man what a pain in the dink!  Installing the bars was easy-peazy, but relocating and making a workable new bracket for the Rosta CC box really sucked (especially when I had just installed the CC last week).  For those with an 08-09, here's a few hints/ideas/tips on how to remount the CC box if you're running one with these bars.

Mounting Point:

Since the MCE bars mount using the same engine brace bolt Murph's instructions have us use to mount the bracket for the Rosta control box, a new mounting location is needed.  The bend and shape of the bars simply won't let us retain this mounting point.  However, the bars do give us three new options via the three other bar bolts (lower 10mm engine bolt or the two 10mm bolts for the S-bar on the MCE bars).  Which one you choose will really depend on your fabrication skills and available tools.

In my case I chose the outer S-bar bolt as my mounting point.

Mounting Bracket:

Depending on your selected mounting location, you may or may not be able to make the stock Rosta mounting bracket work.  Again, it will depend on your fab skills and available tools to get the job done.

In my application I modified the stock bracket.  The first order of business was to drill out the very first hole (closest to the mounting pad for the CC box) to 7/16" for the 10mm bolt.  Then I cut the bracket off just through the middle of the next hole and then rounded off the corners on the grinder.  Next is the fun part...bending the bracket so it will have a little more offset between the mounting bolt and the mounting pad so the box will clear the fairing.

You'll need to test-fit the bracket with the control box in position on the bike a few times to get the bends just right, but it's doable.  You'll also want to test fit the middle fairing over it to ensure clearance - this is the real frustrating part!

When finished the CC control box should be pretty close to the same position it was before the bars were installed and you shouldn't have to modify or re-route any wires to accommodate the changes.  Sorry for not having pic's but after 3 hours of trying to tweak the bracket just right with all the wrong tools taking pic's of the process or finished product was the last thing on my mind.

Hey everyone! Thanks again for all of the participation, this group buy was an awesome success for us and I sincerely hope you all enjoy your guards! As of now all orders have been shipped except for three. Those three who have not left yet are: TM - 15535, DF - 18037, and TM - 44241. If any of you would like a tracking number for your order, just send me a PM on here or email me and I'll send that over to you!

Here are the final counts for those interested:
If any of you are interested in the Canyon Cage style that we're working on, be sure to visit the Canyon Cage discussion on this forum! We're getting a bike in on Tuesday to begin working on so that thread will be frequently updated with photos as we design and manufacture the bar. I'd like to get input as we build the bar so we can make changes as we're working on it instead of having to back-track once the product is finished. Also, for those of you who participated in this group buy (and particularly those who bought a front set) if you're interested in buying a set of the Canyon Cage bars once they're done we'll definitely give you a great deal!

Here you go Max. I did these real quick this morn for you. The plywood that I used wasn't a full sheet and it didn't quite reach both tires the way I wanted and it's a bit bowed. Plus the lighting wasn't great either and I used my cell camera. I'll pull out a full sheet over the weekend and get some better lit pics.

After all the disclaimers above...

From what I can tell, the lower black plastic could take a slight hit in a drop but the colored bits, bags, and mirror look to be safe.

(ignore the Amsoil sticker on my sled trailer, it was on there when I bought it  lol)

Thanks so much for the effort.  It looks like the plywood doesn't even touch the GSG in either the first or third photo :(   I agree that the front-lower (black) fairing is going to hit pretty hard and deform before touching the GSG, and once touching, the front-upper fairings, mirrors, and probably the shifters/pedals are safe.  The McE rears look to be a nice, solid touch-point.  I can't tell from the pics, but I suspect they will not only protect the bags, but the exhaust and swing arms too.

Tough decisions about the GSG.  I see their value in helping to protect the bike, but so far, they don't seem to live up to expectations....

If you want to post more pics (higher res, more light/flash, more angles, larger sheet), I am certainly very interested (as are probably some other people).  I would encourage uploading to the forum instead of linking, so they are permanent, and probably posting or cross-posting in one of the GSG threads for future posterity.

OK, I got my small rear bars in today!  Fast!  I love the workmanship.  It took only 10 minutes to install both, most of the time trying to get off those damn clips that hold the rear pegs in place.  So now I will post a bunch of pictures for those wanting to see the results.

Unfortunately, the list only allows 4 pics per post, so I will have to break it into several.  Here are the bars, and the bike BEFORE I installed them...

You should have just left the pegs on, just pull the pin out and put the new bolt in it's place.

Well, either way, one will still have to remove the clips that hold the pins.  I have no need/use for rear pegs, so I didn't even reinstall them.  Plus, if you do reinstall them (for those who don't know) they will not fold (they stay sticking out).

I had more pictures, but it took FOREVER to post just those (and yes, I scaled them to 1600x), and I think people get the idea :)   There was not much to see from the front of the bike, just a hint of them sticking out.  Same thing from the rear, too.

Did I do something wrong?  I had to enlarge the holes in the pegs for the screw to slide through. Otherwise installation was simple, luckily I had access to a grinder for the heat shield. As far as the pegs always being down it seems they were always in that position anyways. It will get some getting used to how big the front gaurds look!

The peg itself or the mount?  What heat shield did you have to grind?

I wouldn't say you did anything wrong, but I didn't have any problem with the holes in the pegs.  It was a tight fit, but fit, nonetheless

I think I am glad I went with the chrome.  I need a bit more time looking at it, but I think it "works" with the silver bikes.   Now... what to do with the FRONT  (yes, ZG, I know... :) )

On my 2010 I had to trim a small amount of the heat shield on th front right. A well hidden spot that wont show if the bars come off.

That's strange, the screws slid right into the holes (easy boys) easily for mine.

Ah yes, the detent bearing ploy..  Especially when you aren't expecting it.  Make sure the metal detent bracket goes back the right way as well before you put everything back together.

LOL!  I was SURE I was going to lose mine, once I discovered they were there.  It seems mine had enough factory grease in them that it held together pretty well.

Are you asking about the storage pod on my Sargent seat?  That is a lockable storage "box" that takes the place of the passenger seat.  I can not and will not ever attempt to carry a passenger, so this storage pod takes what is, otherwise, wasted space and makes it useful.  I REALLY love the Sargent "Pod", it even has LED lights in it.  I just wish it were bigger.

Think again.  I am 5'7" and have an unusually long torso and short legs and arms.  My clothing inseam is 26.5".  In order to even hold the bike upright when it is stopped, it was necessary to have a lower seat, taller boots, and lower the bike (suspension).  It was also necessary to raise/push back the handlebars.  It is still not low enough, but at least it is rideable, and it is the best I can do with what is out there.

If I could buy a powerful sports touring bike (like the Concours) that had a several inch lower seat, then that would be great.  Imagine- they could offer a TALL SEAT as standard for everyone else.  But there appears to be a conspiracy by designers who assume everyone has a 32"+ inseam.

I think that MG was talking about the mounts for the rear MCE bars being upside down where they mount at the passenger pegs. If you'll look at that point, MCE might have been able to turn the mount around so that the lil support bar connected under the passenger peg, that way the peg could still have been folded up when not in use.

With drilling?  The holes where the pin went through were a tad too small for the new bolts?  (Mine went on with no drilling)

Yes, just a tad. I could of threaded them through but that would of taken way longer.

I saw some people drilled and some didn't. I wonder if that is a difference in year.

Mine were tight enough to just get the threaded part of the screw in, I had to use a socket and it cut threads into the bracket. The unthreaded part of the bolt was too fat to go through, so I also had to drill my mounting holes out. Mine in a 2012. Maybe as time went on there was a slight change in the diameter of the mounting pin and the hole was not as big. I guess the only to tell if anyone was curious enough would be to check the diameter of the pins of someone who had to drill and who did not. The holes on my bike definitely had to be drilled out just a tad.

To cut or not to cut.....

I guess it will make it easier in the long run to just cut the cooling fins to fit over the bars.

Any one have a reason NOT to cut the fairing?

The person who buys the bike in the future will not see where the two fins have been cut. They are not visible, and there is not any load on them to cause them to deform.

I finally mounted my MCE rear bars after having them powder coated (by Kevin at Ayers Garage (http://www.ayersgarage.com/)) in a blue as close as I could get to Candy Neptune Blue.
The color I picked is not a "perfect" match but it's very close and looks much better than black would on a blue bike IMO.
I'm very pleased with how they came out.
As others have, I had to enlarge the holes in the passenger foot pegs and in the bikes passenger peg brackets to
get the MCE bars installed with the supplied hardware.

Hey Marty, Dalroo and I are getting Kevin to powdercoat our bars as well, and I was wondering, would you suggest enlarging any holes before powder or does it not matter?
It does not matter, as the holes to be enlarged are on the bike not the bars. The pin that holds the passenger foot peg on is smaller
in diameter than the bolt that comes with the MCE bars. I needed to enlarge the hole in the passenger foot peg itself and the two holes
on the bracket that holds the peg. I measured the large part of the MCE supplied bolt above the threads and it measured .243" so I just drilled the holes to .250" because I didn't have any letter drills at hand.

So what would I do different?
I had Kevin mask the little boss on the end of the upper mount. I shouldn't have bothered, it's not that
tight of a fit. I should have test mounted the bars before giving them to Kevin to coat, then I would have seen that. When I saw how the un-coated part was going to be visible I just "painted" it black with a Sharpie marking pen. So don't bother to have Kevin mask anything. Second thing to consider is that when you take the passenger foot peg off, there is a steel ball and spring that may go flying off somewhere, so watch for that.

I'm not sure if you posted this then noticed the Group Buy threads stickied at the top of the forum page which would make this post pointless but we're currently running a Group Buy for the Canyon Cages for the 2008-2009 Connie. We JUST finished the Group Buy for the 2010-2012 Connie and most likely won't be doing another one for quite some time. This thread was the old one for the original Group Buy for the law enforcement guards but that's okay. If you'd still like to order the Canyon Cage and Saddle Bag Guards for the 2010-2012, I'd be glad to offer you 10% off and cover the shipping for you as long as you're in the continental U.S.

Thanks, Conrad! We truly value customer service and I think it shows. It's nice when customers don't mind calling us up to order stuff or ask questions about products. Nowadays, customers are generally greeted by an answering machine and have to navigate through annoying and complicated automated systems and that's just not us. Teri (the awesome office manager) and I prefer to handle all customers who either email or call because it really helps cut down on mistakes and gives it more of a personal feel. Anyway, it makes me happy that our effort doesn't go unnoticed! So thank you!  ;D

Good to see that the bars helped out in this situation. I hit a deer a couple years ago, it totaled my VFR, all of my gear, and my left hand.
