Title: The Faces of ZG/GTR
Post by: VirginiaJim on August 29, 2011, 06:06:15 AM
I'm starting a new sticky thread (for now) for posting pictures of ourselves with our bikes or without.  One picture is fine so make it good. Multiple picture postings will be deleted as will off-topic posts.   Comments in the post on where the picture was taken are appreciated.

This pic is from my return trip back to VA from Reno.  I'm on the left (complete with janitor chain key ring) and Poke is on the right. It was taken in Columbus Ohio.

Couldn't find any of just myself on my C14. I'm the one in the middle flanked by 2 of my brothers. This is in front of my house in CO. We were beginning  a trip from my house near CO Spring through Colorado, Wyoming, Utah, Idaho and Montana in July of 2010.

A few pictures of me and the family. My wife is holding a T-shirt Nicky Hayden just signed for her in Laguna 2009. The pic of the 3 of us has my daughter wearing an orange hat signed by Nicky Hayden as well from Laguna '09. The single picture, my daughter took of me, on top of a mountain in Jasper National Park last summer. The last picture is my wife with her 2006 Yamaha FZ-1 and our daughter on the back of my Concours riding through the Columbia Icefields Parkway last summer. I'm 41, wifes 40 in a few days and our daughter is now 11 and has been riding on bikes since she was 2, she also rips it up on her Honda CRF 70.

Great family pics Steve. Reminds me of my family vacations as a kid, 85% were on motorcycles, family of 5 all of us on 2 bikes then as we each came of age (16) we each took our new bikes on a maiden journey. My brother to Texas, my sister to Montana, me to California. This was in the 70's and 80's. My wife and I still take most of our vacations on the bike.

It was a great trip!  Absolutely flawless weather, and roads that weren't built with just a straight edge and transit.

I love the dual pipes, but in honesty, I got it that way from the Previous Owner.  I got the bike with twin pipes, Power Commander, 'fly deletes and Zumo550.

Me yesterday after my morning commute.  I have about a half hour each way daily, so I ride to work in MC gear and then pull the uniform out of the wall locker in my office.
(http://www.galaxieman.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/wpid1800-20120111-_MG_5780-240x300.jpg) (http://www.galaxieman.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/wpid1800-20120111-_MG_5780.jpg)

Daily uniform is the ACU, but I do also clean up okay:
(http://www.galaxieman.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/wpid1351-Promotion-to-MAJ-7-of-8-200x300.jpg) (http://www.galaxieman.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/wpid1351-Promotion-to-MAJ-7-of-8.jpg)

5 more weeks of command, then I get a MONTH of leave!  Serious first-time IronButt planning is ongoing... going to do a southeast AZ - San Diego - LA and back loop in March.

My better half and I at our wedding on Grand Cayman last November:
(http://www.galaxieman.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/wpid1734-20111130-IMG_8117-300x200.jpg) (http://www.galaxieman.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/wpid1734-20111130-IMG_8117.jpg)
Still don't understand how I got lucky enough for her to keep me around...

On the seventh day, God rested.  On the eighth day God covered all of the heads he was ashamed of with hair.   :yikes:

So much for the old days when you opened your wallet to get your drivers license and happen to show your badge. The officer would then let you off with a "warning"! Doesn't happen anymore.

Geez, I don't have any "action pics" on the Concours yet, just got it a week ago! Got two trips planned on it this summer, though.. one to the Deals Gap/Fontana/C-Skyway are in July and then a camping trek to Atlanta Motor Speedway on Labor Day weekend.

Anyway, to prove my bikes aren't garage queens, here's an older pic from a trip to the NE in '08 with my Bro.

This is Nubble Light in southern Maine.

I took the Auto Train from FL to VA, rode up to CT, then he and I went to Laconia and northward into Maine, after riding up Mt. Washington, of course... ;)

Here's the other bike, my dual-sport. Ride this one all over the place and annually, we do the Chattahoochie Dual-Sport ride starting near Suches, GA. That's in June.

Just got the DR back on the road, the pulser coil failed; runs like a top again!

Put some air in the tires, check the oil and make sure to replace the hefty sack in the window.  She's also out of fuel, only takes 30 gallons of diesel and she should be good for a coupla hundred miles.  Oh, dont forget to bring your milk crate, the drivers side crate broke the last time you used it and the passenger side is being used for the chickens, which BTW are starting to lay some really nice eggs.  Almost forgot, DON't forget your goggles, remember the last time you got a ticket for driving without eye protection?  That shoulda teached ya not to go breaking windshields ;D  What time you figuring you'll be here, I'll add 2 hours since I'm sure you still ride that slow black bike, but after reading about some of your riding stunts that may be a good thing :o

I'm just amazed that shorter riders can handle this bike. I went from a slammed/lowered cruiser that I could flatfoot with bent knees to this bike. I'm ~6' and still have problems backing it out on uneven/gravely ground.

I'd rather be short than ride a cruiser any day!!  ;D ;D ;D

:)

Yeah, I realized that it was a "mistake" when I was unable to keep up with a friend's ~650 on a 1200. Not to mention I replaced 3 sets of floorboards in 2 years trying to ride it like a sports bike.

Hey, Gsun, it looks like your shield is raised fully, which requires the bike to be running, but your headlights aren't on.  how'd you manage that?

Another example of the superiority of a Silverdammit and all the first generations of C14s. The shield stays in the last position you had it in once the bike is shut off.

On the newer bikes, just hold the windshield up button when you shut down the bike. The shield will stay up.  ::)

Thanks ZG. I bought the Gixxer for my birthday in 2011. I thought about fly removal etc. to make the Concours a little quicker but decided against the mods and buy a Gixxer instead. My buddy is on the Gixxer. He came to Tx. for a visit early this year from Ohio. I told him how empty the roads are here in hill country north of San Antonio and that I almost never see any cops. Well about 2 hours later he got a $200 ticket doing 16 MPH over the limit...oops! The Gixxer is a blast..but maybe expensive to ride..

Did you find it a little tough to drive 35?

Easier than I thought it would be ....stayed right at 41 and was happy. Pulled out and saw some pretty spectacular views. Came home and watched some guys on TV working a bike race in the Alps. Going up hills with cameras and race marshalls on the back of Bimmers and Connies at 4-12 mph gave me a new appreciation of how versatile these Sport Tour bikes are ....as well as the guys who ride them. Yup, Skagit Powersports in Burlington.  Not only did I get a great deal ($2300 off MSRP), the sales tax is the lowest in the state there, too.

I look like this shot taken at a sidewalk cafe in Central France when I was there on a job assignment.

Where at? I spent 3 months in Grenoble on a job assignment.

Looked familiar. I bought some shims there a while back. See it every time I head out on I-5. Nice people.

One Chinook and seven silvers. There were four of us on my buddies boat and we can only keep two a piece in Oregon. :(

Sucks cause we have to spend 100+ in gas four or five weekends in a row when in reality we could go stock the freezer for the winter in one day. :censored:

It's not the freezer, its the commoradory that is what makes it worth it.  Lost my fishing, riding, women chasin', BS'ing, everything buddy to cancer, and would give most anything to have him back for just one day.  Don't ever forget that, everything must pass, including those closest to you....   Just sayin'...

I am in central Illinois. Jan 1 & 2 was above zero.  Been below ever since.  That is why I wanted to get it home over new years. The 6th it was -15 here.  Connie sitting in garage making me very happy.  If I would have bought it and had to leave it someplace else I would be driving myself crazy.  Today it going to be in 20's, but I just ran the snow blower threw 18" drifts in my drive.  I guess no riding anytime soon.

Its called a Kudu here Rhino . Scientific name is "Tragelaphus strepsiceros".  You can Wiki it for a better explanation/description.

The one in the photo was 147Kg (323 Pounds) carcass weight. Lasted the family about 4 months.......
