BMW is just now adding VVT?
Couple points. BMW could have added VVT when they revised the boxer to the LC platform. It was likely a strategic move to wait a few years into the LC lifecycle to have something "new" to support their sales and marketing strategy and a dedication to evolving the boxer gradually. They tend to freshen their models in some fashion every 3-4 years. Also, their is the boxer legacy crowd that has to be considered. To that point, sometimes periodic upgrades are a softer roll out vs. the big "ta-da!!" Part of the allure of the boxer has been its simplicity / reliability. Don't want to risk alienating your core customers by over doing it with a total design revolution.
Also, they are probably feeling a little pressure to close the power gap boxer engine models compared to some more sport orientated platforms like the multi and the KTM.
Regardless, this thing is going to be packing some legit sport-touring power especially considering it's weight. My R1200R with the 125 hp boxer has some serious punch. This new engine is going to take it to another level.
