Noisy Transmission
« on: August 03, 2011, 07:19:23 AM »
Hello everyone. I just bought a 1987 Concours with 19K miles. The bike runs great and smooth. But I notice that the trans whines when I am on the throttle. Like the gears are undercut like a racebike.  It goes away when I let off. It is more apparent at 50mph range. On the highway it gets better. I have ridden many bikes that sound like this. But I have never ridden a Concours until now. Is it normal??

Sounds like a turbine don't it.  Mines an '87 and we are probably both hear the same sound (I think everyone does).  Otherwise, make sure your oil is fresh and at the correct level.  I think I remember someone saying that the gears are straight cut and causes this sound?

You get the "FFFFFFOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWHHHHHHHHHHHEEEEEEEEEEEE" sound too eh? I like that. Hits right at 5k on the tach, sounds like a 747 spinning up.

Lovely sound, is what sold me on this bike...
