OEM ZX14 header info
« on: January 21, 2013, 06:15:20 PM »
Wanted to share a bit of info that I had gathered while making changes to my new to me `09 C14 as can be seen here. http://www.zggtr.org/index.php?topic=11905.0  This may be common knowlege to the masses but being a noob to the big K family it took some digging on this and other forums for me to find what I needed  While I found a lot of good information I also found some that was very vague and some that was down right wrong.

The 2006-07 catless header is easy to tell from the 2008-11 header once you know what to look for.  2006 header on the left 2009 on the right.

2006-07 primary tubes 1 1/2"   outlets 2"
2008-11 primary tubes 1 1/2"   outlets 2 1/8"
C-14      primary tubes 1 3/8"    outlet  2 1/8"

C-14 top  ZX14 bottom

Hope this helps someone. :)

I took my used $60.00 ZX headers to a welding shop and had them  ban saw the collector , remove cats , reweld $50. 00 , used Two brothers ZX dual pipes $150. Muzzys left side hanger $80.Two Brothers  Dual power tips (restrictors  come in 3 sizes different dbs)
Sounds just like a HD now ::)
More mid and top end POWER, you can't eat if you can't $hit ;D
Don't forget those fancy lock nuts and new gaskets.
I also heat wrapped the headers  because I live in  south Florida .

The other thing I found when I installed my 06 ZX14 headers over Christmas, is that mufflers for the ZX14s don't come with a spacer/hanger to drop the exhaust an inch.  I got Two Bros mufflers and there isn't enough room (imo) to mount the saddlebags without being concern about heat.  Plan to bend the mid pipes in the near future to remedy this.

Just curious why you didn't have them ceramic coated "black"?

I have two other bikes that I have had the same folks do the black ceramic on, just wanted something different on this one.

I made a hanger for the right side to lower the muffler one inch because mine was touching also, I was thinking about bending the pipe also , NO one wanted to mess with it, I'm glad I made a little hanger , just drill two holes .

Yeah I just need to cut something up to fab the hanger. Going to try and bend it myself, the tip of the exhaust just needs to drop an inch (not even) and I'll be happy.

All years will work together as long as you use the appropriate donut gasket that can be found on the oem mid-pipe.
