I'm wondering if it will ever end too! We had 10 MORE inches of VERY heavy snow yesterday. My wife got out of work early because of the snow and I had to go pick her up before the snow plow came through my area. I got the damn car stuck behind my garage on the way back and had to dig it out.

Actually we haven't had a hurricane in over 5 years.  Fortunately ours have been breezes with a little rain compared to New Orleans and the Northeast USA.  Bring 'em on, I like free roofs, I'll I'll be riding while the workers are replacing it too.  Besides, I rode my jeep with the top down last hurricane years ago  ;D

I had to chuckle this past weekend, some of the local cities who are running low on salt have trucked out this "new great idea" in dealing with all the snow. They are calling this new great idea, "furnace slag". Uh, folks, its called cinders. Its black, and you either throw it down instead of salt, or cut the salt with it. Most rural areas, at least here in Ohio, have been using it since forever. I laugh cause this is the only thing they used in my area growing up in the 60's and 70's, AND, only at the intersections.

Yeah, some municipalities here in the northeast are either very low or actually out of salt too. One of them tried to pawn it off as 'using less salt is better for the public's cars'. Of course that one got called and they had to 'fess up.

We got another 4, 5" of wet, nasty snow today. The forecast predicted 1-3" but it was more than that. I had to blow out the place again and my woodpile is now out of sight under several storm's worth of snow. And the roads are an absolute mess; at least it is late in the year and everyone has had a chance to re- learn how to drive in the stuff (or is that now to [not drive] in the stuff?).... again.

The temp yesterday got up to 42 here so the 3 feet of snow on the ground started melting. What a mess! The ground is frozen of course so the melt water doesn't have anywhere to go, except into my garage, not good.   :o

Tonight's forecast is calling for VERY heavy rain and thunder storms. Also NOT GOOD!

I climbed up on my roof yesterday and removed some big drifts up there.

I don't climb roofs anymore to remove snow.  Falling off once, is enough.

Title: Re: Will this winter EVER end???
Post by: B.D.F. on February 19, 2014, 12:02:55 PM
Yeah, but what fell off was last year's snow. You have to deal with this year's snow too. Oh wait, are you talking about the snow falling off the roof or..... nevermind.

Hopefully you got enough snow off the roof before you fell off of it yourself that you had a nice, big pile of snow to land in?

My brother has in- laws in northern VT and about every third year they send a photo of their back yard deck, which the kids can walk onto by walking on the snow. During summer, it is a 20' + drop to the ground from that deck.  :yikes:  Most of that snow is snow that fell off the roof and what they pushed off the deck. They measure their snowfall, both all year and by the specific storm, in feet rather than inches. Then again, that is why they call it 'the snow belt'. :-)  Your story made me think of them 'cause I cannot think of a better roof to fall off of in the winter. In fact, it would not be a fall really, just the beginning of a great slide down the hill....

This should help(forcast for Red Wing, MN, where we usta live):

Statement as of 7:14 PM CST on February 20, 2014

... Blizzard Warning remains in effect until noon CST Friday...

A Blizzard Warning remains in effect until noon CST Friday.

* Timing... heavy snow will continue this evening before tapering
off after midnight.

* Main impact... the combination of falling snow and blowing and
drifting snow will result in whiteout conditions. Travel is
expected to be extremely dangerous... especially in open areas
tonight when 2 to 3 foot drifts may develop.

* Snow accumulations... 5 to 12 inches... with the highest totals
over south central Minnesota. Accumulations over a foot are
possible along Interstate 35.

* Winds... west-northwest 25 to 35 mph with some gusts to 45 or
50 mph.

* Visibilities... less than a quarter mile.

* Other impacts... wind chill readings will drop into the teens
below zero late tonight and Friday morning.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Blizzard Warning means severe winter weather conditions are
expected or occurring. Falling and blowing snow with strong winds
and poor visibilities are likely. This will lead to whiteout
conditions... making travel extremely dangerous. Do not travel. If
you must travel... have a winter survival kit with you. If you get
stranded... stay with your vehicle.

We had an inch of rain here yesterday and with all the snow around my garage melting, the water had nowhere to go except into my garage. I have an inch of slush covering the entire floor now. I hate to even go out and look at it this morning since it dipped well below freezing last night.

Is your garage opening on the downhill side of a slope?
Title: Re: Will this winter EVER end???

Is your garage opening on the downhill side of a slope?

Yes it is but with the HUGE amount of snow and ice on the ground the garage floor is the low spot in the area. I was able to clear a path for the water to go but it was all slush yesterday and it didn't want to move. I spent two hours with my shopvac vacuuming up cold water and slush from the floor. I don't have any standing water or slush any more but it's still a mess. I didn't have anything on the floor that could be damaged though. My garage floor sweats like crazy in the spring time (cold floor warm moist air) so I always keep the stuff up off the floor because of that.

We've still got another month or two of winter conditions in the Northeast.

There is about 2 feet of snow in my back yard.

The snow banks from the plows are 3 feet tall.

that's funny straw.... my gf grew up in glouster, when I read her the post she said that was all she ever knew. Said, whenever someone got stuck they would come running with a bucket of cinders. Southeast Ohio is the epitome of rural.

For those that FB!

Studs work, a big word of caution, the Aerostitch studs will migrate into the tire if used on bare pavement.  My "dry run" left me with a shredded front tube after 90ish miles.  I did not experience a difference in handling (on wet pavement) which surprised me, but they made a HUGE difference in the snow/ice.  I will end up with a dedicated set of studded tires using car tire studs... :)

Remember the images of the tsunami wall of water and debris that overtook the Japanese port city? We had an inch of rain in about 1 hour last Thursday night and 15 inches of snow that was melting at about 50F. The wall of water picked up the ice, smashed it, threw it down river on top of the other ice, this ice was about 8 inches thick, and it rolled down stream at around 5 miles an hour, rolling and curling and chopping up and throwing as it went, somebody got a video of it and it was fascinating to watch, kind of like a tornado, sad that some got flooded, well, not too sad as who would build by a river that does this every year, then ask for help to rebuild their $300,000 homes by the river. Nobody got hurt though and all are accounted for. But now, it looks like a alien war zone with ice chunks as big as cars littered about. Sorry, no video, but I think it was either the Grand River, Black River or the Vermillion River in Ohio.

Vermillion... those dodo's have to be brain dead living 7 feet above a river so they can have a dock.... well, the dock is now in the living room....

Chagrin hit flood stage maxed yesterday, it was impressive to see it flowing off rt 90, kinda like dirty gray lava....
The grand didn't look too bad when I saw it Friday, but I heard it jammed Out at the mouth and was piling up.

shoreline off Cleveland was open water, Fairport broke up yesterday I think.....
THIS WAS Friday MORN, in Fairport you can see the big ice ridge out about a mile... the rest inland was pretty thin inside the breakwall...yes. it is frozen there...

Did you hear the stir caused by the company that wanted to run an ice breaker around S. Bass Island? Ice fishers were in an uproar, understandable. It was also stated that in the last few weeks, at least 2 dozen ATV's were lost when they went through the ice, and a few weeks ago a Range Rover went under, WHOA! I took enough water and ice rescue to never get on ice again no matter the thickness.

I don't think there are any capable of doing that currently... I saw on the news that the Neah Bay and the Morro Bay are both down and out of commission due to mechanical failures, those are the 2 I have seen most frequently for big jobs like that... all the other Bay class breakers are on the far end of Michigan I would assume..... Tecro could prolly tell ya which ones aren't.

Temps supposed to drop to -0- F tonight and stay cold for the next couple days. Then it will warm up and.... dump some more snow on us. Sunday through Monday, something like 6" to 12", maybe as much as a foot!  ;D

Nothing like you folks in Minasnowta or Canada, eh? but definitely toward the cold and lots of snowfall side for us.

I'm off this weekend and we are supposed to get a boat load of snow Sunday so we'll take a hike in the woods during the storm, it is so cool, no pun intended, its so quiet and everything is covered and white and there are no tracks yet, we'll take a thermos of coffee and walk a few hours. The best is at night though. No need for a light.

-36F in Crane Lake, MN this morning, -33 at the Falls. Without windchill. Windchills in northern MN were predicted to be below -50.

My three brothers have stopped asking why I took a job transfer to central F L A.

Another week and a half they say until a break. I heard that in spots, the frost is down at 7+ feet. Time to leave the water running.

No, I do not miss it.

It was a chilly 56 this afternoon on my home bound commute. That's plenty cold enough.

Two of my very favorite things about being in an area blanketed with a fresh snowfall; the first is the quiet. Snow modulates and dulls all the noises and sound in the world and it is a great experience, every single time it happens. The other thing is that human perception seems so much sharper because all movement is very well contrasted against the snow. Normally as a human, I think my outdoor observation skills rate about a 2 out of 100 compared with everything else on the planet that walks. I mean most animals can just stop and stare at any one of us and we simply do not see it. That all changes in a snowed- in area, especially freshly snowed because we see the movement, the contrast and even the tracks of what is / has been moving around.

I like all four seasons and winter has its own attractions IMO, or at least to me. I don't know if I want to live in the snow belt and measure the build up in feet every year but I do miss the snow if we don't get much of any for a whole year.

And, the BEST nights for observing the sky are the coldest clearest nights. Like warmth, cold is something you get used to. In December, we froze when it was 20F, after two months of below zero for high temps and snow, 20F is warm!

Got some more throttle therapy on the sled through the neighborhood today.. ;D....after clearing the walk & driveway w/ the snoblower.  Good thing I decided to keep the beater sled instead of getting rid of it. Keeps cabin fever at bay just enough, 'til I can get the bike out.
As much as I like riding the bike, a quick blast on the sled gets the juices flowing too. If I was lucky enough to hit the lotto, besides a place in the Appalachians, I'd buy a place in the sno-belt just off the snowmobile trail network. Something about riding through the sno-laden trees that's hard to describe to those in the sun / humidity-belt.

7-9 inches forecast here in the Mid-Atlantic.  We're in the heaviest snow band...  Snowing heavily at the moment.   Thank goodness it's more of the powder variety.

That's my snow! It was supposed to pass over HERE!  :-)

Looks like the storm swept to the south. How are you folks set up to deal with that amount of snow- cities and towns have enough plows? Plenty of sanding trucks? Or is that enough to really put a dent in your week? Northern Virginia gets snow pretty regularly, doesn't it?

Virginia is about middle of the road for snow removal I think.  We haven't had a lot of snow the past several years or so.   Western NoVa gets more than the area around DC.  I'm east of Fredericksburg and it really depends on how the snow tracks.  We've had more snow this winter than we've had in quite a few years.  I predicted this, of course, with the moist weather we've had lately and the Polar Vortexes coming down this way so much this year.  At least I'm getting to use the snow blower more.

When we got a big storm like in 2010 (17" overnight) it shut everything down....

Whenever there was a prediction of 2" they began shutting down schools days in advance, and bread & milk were scarce.... Ohio is actually getting like that now.... heheheh

we never got the "foot" the scarecasters predicted for yesterday.... missed us totally... I won't even fire up the snowblower for less than 3" now a days.... ;)

these are from an Ohio overnight snowfall in 2001, before we moved to Va.
I bought a snow blower that day, and sold it when we moved in May....

We have your warmer weather here by the Great Salt Pond (Lake).  5th Warmest February on record, and daytime temps in the 50s and 60s.  Finally getting a decent snowpack finally this year as well near the G.S.L..  Last year a good chunk of the snow we did get was in the valleys, not in the mountains like it is supposed to be, so we had water shortage issues.  Other areas of the state are hurting more for snowpack this year though (some still 50% or less).

So thank you for taking the arctic air off of our hands in February/most of the winter!  It was nice!

Am I doing the snow dance incorrectly? Do I have to take the batteries out of my fobs? They are teasing me with 6" to 12" by the end of next week but I am afraid the forecast will change like it did last time we expected snow.

You guys have all the fun!

We are catching up on our rain the last few weeks.  Lake is only down 18"s, but both ponds are at full effect.  My soil is more clayish than anything and the constant heavy rain is playing havoc with the place, rode the GS down to the lake (recovering our goose nest as the dock finally gave up the ghost), felt like I was on snow again.  11 days and I am off to AZ and UT for 2 weeks of DS riding.  Wanna bet it rains while I am there?

Now up here, where we have more accommodating weather, it is finally supposed to snow next Wed. / Thurs.. If the predictions hold, we might get 8" which is  a fine amount to dig out of.   But of course these long range forecasts are not very accurate and the last time a decent snow was predicted we got nothing at all.... 100* has never been recorded in Tampa, or Miami. And it occurs very rarely here in central FLA. I've lived here for eight years now. We maybe had one 100 degree day about 5-6 years ago when a summer "cold front" came through. A summer cold front lowers the dewpoints into the upper 60's, allowing afternoon temps to actually be hotter, and it is too dry for afternoon sun showers.

I do not miss the 30 below and the 105 above of Minnesnowta. Not one bit. Morehead MN had a heat index of 134* a year or two ago. I do not understand how you people up north deal with the heat in the summer.

In a word, badly :-(

I live in the northeast US, on the coast and it does occasionally touch 100F here with high humidity. The major difference is that the high 80's and into the 90's is far less common, and for a much shorter period of the year than FL. If it does not reach 100F, then it is absolutely certainly in the 90's quite often.

Record temp in Tampa is 99 degrees, and that was back in '85.  With our gulf breeze its usually 88-92 in the summers.

Still to hot for me, that's why I'm usually riding elsewhere or hiding out up in the Blue Ridge mtns during the summer months.

Oh great- now they have changed the forecast from many inches of snow to..... I don't even like saying the word..... rain :-(  There is still a chance of some 'flurries' overnight but what good will that do me? Stupid winter is almost over.

At least it was cold enough for long enough to wipe out my motorcycle battery. It will not hold a charge for 24 hours any longer so it must be time. Not bad life out of it though, I think it is 3 or 4 years old and probably would have survived this last winter had the bike been used or at least the battery charged before it got so cold. New MotoBatt on the way.

Oh well, the recent temp. changes did cut WAY back on my wood usage (easy boys!). Got a chance to shut down the stove, clean out the pipes (easy!) and the heat exchanger. Broke the scraper rod on the heat exchanger though and looked up the price of a new one: $200 and out of stock until at least April. Not such bad news, it will prod me along to fix this one when it is warmer.

We've had above freezing temps the last couple of days, 90% of the snow has melted. That means that my garage was flooded with melt water and slush again.  :o

Winter weather advisory in effect for today. 4 to 8 inches of snow.  :o

On the plus side of that, I can get my snowmobiles out of the garage and on to the trailer. I need to get those sleds out of the way so Connie can come out and play SOON.

I've decided I have some weird passive-aggresive thing goin' on...

Everytime someone mentions 70 degree weather (or better) I have an irrational urge to...   to...  I don't know what....   It's just cruel.

But everytime I see the 'new' sign beside this thread, I just gotta open and read it....

I need help.  (Or summer... ::) )

I hope you understand that I am mostly kidding about wanting more snow / winter. Really, I just want the chance to test blow (easy boys!) my refurbished snowblower. Otherwise, this winter has lasted long enough and been, at an absolutely wild guess, 25% to 40% colder and greater snowfall than we normally  get. I burned more firewood by 1 March than I usually burn all year (and I will be burning into May although small fires and use much less wood than in the middle of winter). I just bought an new catalytic combustor in the stove as the old one was about 1/2 worn out, and today am going to clean the chimney (from the basement- not THAT IS FUN!). Got a new battery on the way for the bike 'cause the current one drops to 2 volts w/in three days of charging. So overall, I am with you guys and have had enough..... except I would really like to get a bit of time on the 'blower so I can tweak it before next fall. But it is not looking good for that to happen..... although it has snowed quite a lot (white out conditions) as late as May here but that is freakishly late in the year.

Brian - it's all good.  Your posts don't seem to have nearly the effect on me that I was talking about...  It's purely envy-driven. Our "southern friends" get to enjoy their ride much more than is possible up here.  My wife has suggested that it's some special form of SAD (Seasonal Affected Disorder) that only northern dwelling motorcycle owners seem susceptible to...  I'm a proud Canadian, but I sure do wish we had a longer riding season.

Your posts - they bring back memories for me - I grew up in a big old house, heated exclusively by wood - we went through 3 long cord of hardwood every year.  Took down next years wood in the winter when the swamp was frozen - winter wood dries so much quicker - split and stacked in the spring - burned all winter.  We had an airtight that'd hold 30" pieces - we saved the knottiest stuff for overnight - rarely had to start a new fire, though mornings were cool...  Cleaning chimneys?  ours was hidden inside 6" of brick and stone chimney, so when it started to look like it needed to be cleaned, we'd put a grate over the top of the chimney, fill the firebox with pine and/cedar etc. and let'er'go - We had firemen come and warn us a couple times when flames were shooting out the top of the chimney, but it only takes minutes to burn it clean.  (I do understand this isn't the recommended way of doing it...  but it worked...)

...  Cleaning chimneys?  ours was hidden inside 6" of brick and stone chimney....

I live next to the main road, so have to time my 'cleaning' sessions to near dusk. Too light to see the four horizontal blue (yellow) flames coming out the smoke cap, too dark to see the smoke filling the canyon. Else way after midnight, when the flames illuminate the snow in in back yard.... and my neighbors back yard. Nothing but pine up here :-/

The fire department came down once, apparently someone though I was grilling an elephant on the Webber. Why they didn't stop and see if everyone was OK before driving another 15 minutes to a phone or cell service is beyond me.

Having had to respond to chimney fires, I can certainly attest to their dangers especially when the homeowners think that they've taken care of it themselves.  We had one in a home in the subdivision where the station was many years ago where the homeowner had thought that they took care of it with a garden hose.  Upon arriving, no smoke coming from the chimney.  Up on the roof everything looked fine. until we looked at the crack between the cricket and the chimney.  It was glowing red down below.  Down we go to the living room.  Removed the drywall where the chimney was in the wall and ceiling and found several studs in the process of burning or were totally gone.  That wall was on fire.  Thank goodness for them we thoroughly checked everything out.

The moral of the story is that the chimney liner has to be in the best of shape without any cracks in order for the above process to work without danger.  I definitely wouldn't recommend it.

Yeah, I had a really light, slow burning chimney fire quite a few years ago and it was a little scary watching smoke come from <between> the bricks above the roof line.  :yikes:  Old house, old chimney and no doubt the flue tiles are not sealed. So I have taken a new path and never allow the flue temp. at the thimble to hold or exceed 400 F (at the outside of the pipe, internal temps (easy boys!) are closer to 600 F) which is not enough to touch off creosote.... or so it seems.

The other really easy way to step around all of this is to burn clean in the first place; with a catalytic combustor in the stove, my flue gas is about as dirty as natural gas- perfectly clear and leaves virtually nothing anywhere in the flue or chimney. The downside is that as the combustor fails, the stove turns into one of those smoldering messes that were oh so popular in the 70's and 80's. That is what left the debris in my chimney that I recently cleaned out.

Now about the chimney cleaner: I bought this cheap but [I was hoping] adequate kit: http://www.amazon.com/Gardus-Inc-RCH205-Chimney-Cleaning/dp/B0010H5JXA (http://www.amazon.com/Gardus-Inc-RCH205-Chimney-Cleaning/dp/B0010H5JXA)   I had an older, thread type fiberglass rod set up but that was a gigantic pain in the butt and did not work well at all, at least it did not for me.  But this foolish thing worked amazingly well! It is really nothing more than a weed eater (it literally uses weed eater line as the 'whip') on a stick that is spun by a drill and worked up / down the chimney. One of the really cool parts is that because of the button lock on all connected pieces, it can be rotated in either direction and what I found worked fantastically well was to make three passes over a 3' length of chimney, changing rotation each time. The second and third passes really loosened up the garbage in the flue, I I think because the whip was coming at the debris from the other side and knocking it off.

I have a little bit of hard, glazed creosote near the thimble that this thing would not entirely remove. I am thinking about replacing the weed eater plastic whip lines with steel cable and having at it again. The cable should be fairly kind to the chimney while being more aggressive than the plastic. I am just not going to use one of the chain cleaners because I think it would chip / crack the fuel tiles, especially near the joints so while a chain head cleaner might work great, I think it is too aggressive for an older chimney.

Brian

Buckeye spring "barometer"... (i.e. how close to "real" spring are we....?)

Monday morn I saw a dead Opossum on the side of the road...
.
.
Tuesday morn, I saw the same one, and another one about a mile further down the road....

today, I saw parts of the first one, the second one, and another on the farside of the road about a quarter mile before....

that right there is the clear sign spring is within 10 days,
and if by chance you see a combo like that, AND a dead raccoon it's a sure sign of less than a week.....heheheheheh

as soon as the coon appears, I'll be buying my license plate sticker... :rotflmao:

Speaking of burning wood, I have gone through more this season than any other year I have lived here.
Steel liner on my wood burning stove, usually spotless but since most of the wood i have been burning in the past month was only cut and split (dead standing most of it) in October and November it was a bit wetter than I planned to burn so I can now see the sooty drippings on the exterior of the chimney stack cap and some on the roof under it. A few days ago I removed the cap and ran a 6" chimney brush down it for about 20 minutes and it looks much better but not really clean.
Now I need to find next seasons wood that is really dry and enough for the following year so it can be split and dry by then as I will be completely out in another week or two depending on what the weather does. I still have to heat for atleast another 4-6 weeks but average high is now 40, so it does not require quite as much wood as when it was only getting to zero or single digits.
I hate being behind on the supply it makes for a bit too much urgency and haste

Since December 1st we have only had 6 days at or above "normal" temps, everything else been below normal and lots of high temps for the day have been less than the normal overnight lows
Something like 20 days where the temperature never got above zero degrees, I am sure looking forward to warth and riding winter has blown.

I live in Northern VA in an all electric 70s house.  We have went thru 3 cords plus this winter.  I've now stooped to buying wood packs for $4.99 from the grocery store for two reasons.  One, i'm hoping its finally over next week.  Two, the price of wood for any decent size load of wood is insane right now.  I cord dumped (of good wood) is going for $250 to $275.  Kiln dried is $300 if you pick up - $75 more for delivery.

Here too! I swept out the garage stall where my wife parks her SUV.  First time since last fall... Had to weigh the sand - 18 LBS!  From just a 12'x20' area.  The street looks more like a dirt road than a city street.  The pavement that is dry, is white with salt yet too.  Another few weeks of storage for my bike.
I did take the time to hook up the battery tender & get the registration sticker on the plate today.  Wishful thinking....  Weather shows rain & freezing rain for tomorrow.

I REALLY hate seeing road kill, it makes me sad. But this year it makes me even more sad because I think about what those animals had to endure to survive the brutal winter that we just went through. Only the very toughest animals would have made it through the record cold temps that we had only to get creamed by a car.  :(

Road kill doesn't bother me at all, the only thing that does is that it could have been me hitting it. The last 20 years has seen a virtual EXPLOSION in road kill on Ohio roads, meaning that there are too many animals in the area and not enough natural predators to keep them in check. Lots of folks here are up in arms over the recent attacks on pets from coyote never thinking about why that is, but simply complaining, as if increasing police patrols or having a neighborhood watch will somehow solve the problem. Road kill at this time of year especially nocturnal mammals means they are out before they are supposed to be, and it improves the gene pool, as slow and stupid animals die because there are no lawyers to protect them. ;D

But I am an American and so do not want to wait! I want it NOW. In fact, instead of snowing all night, I wish the snow gods would just send it FedEx so I could have it all at one time.

And so the vendor asked the customer how he wanted the parts delivered, and the customer responded 'Fax them to me- I am in a hurry.'

It is what makes and has made America great- no tolerance for inefficiency or limitations of any kind. Got snow where you do not want it? Fine, we will make millions of snow removal machines, methods, devices... some of them beyond your wildest imagination (look up the video of the gas turbine / locomotive 'snow blower'). Want snow but don't have it? We can make it too and spread it around for your skiing pleasure. Really, why grow carrots by the handful when you can grow them by the ton.... or millions of tons?

But me- I am depending on the weather :-(   And now the forecast is upping the prediction of snow to 5" to 8" on Tuesday and 3" to 5" on Wed. I am trying not to get my hopes up, and I know they are mocking me but still.... it could happen, right?

Just got done loading a trailer of wood onto the porch- I am now into my 5th cord for certain this winter and may be getting near the 6th cord. Cold, windy and long winter because I normally burn 4 cord and some years have maybe a cord left over.

Today is a balmy 15F this morning but will rocket to a high of 35. The rest of the week will be similar- 35 / 40 by day, and 15 / 20 by night. A few inches of snow coming Tues. night and Wed.

You should see motorcycles everywhere..... if you go to a motorcycle dealer :-)

Brian

I have to fly to cough cough BOSTON this week.  Please tell me spring is upon you all up there  ;D

OK I'll pack gloves, scarf and an overcoat and enjoy a change in weather.  Taking the water taxi from Logan Airport to the "Seaport Hotel".  Anyone care to join me at Legal Seafood "Harborside" for dinner? It better be cold cuz I wanna' see what all the fuss has been over all winter  ;D

Then I'll deserve a break from that igloo. Fly back late friday night, throw the KTM and a months worth of stuff in the truck, and head west to Vegas.  Work from home there and ride Moab, Death Valley and Baja on a vacation days/nights/weekends

Well the predictions here were upwards of a foot but now as the time for the snow is here, the predictions have dropped to less than 1 inch. I knew it- they mock me and my snowblower..... :-(

If you really want some snow you'll need to 'summerize' your snow blower and get it put up for the season. That's when it'll hit.

Perhaps this entire snow season is all my fault.

I have a snowblower that I has a gummed up carburator and will not start.  I thoght it was put away by me, but alas dad was the last one to use it 3 yrs ago and it still had the untreated gas in it.  I have refused to clean it because it is too cold and snowy outside when I need it.  It is a "spring" (which has started) project.  I usually empty the tank after they warm up then run it until it cuts off, then remove the bowl and gas cap to let it dry for a few days at the end of each season.  Same thing with the generator.

Now I do not believe in ghosts, goblins, hocus pocus or luck (beyond random chance) but I have to say Conrad, you may be right on this one. The blower is in front of a garage bay, clogging up the entire bay, facing the door, 'waiting'. If I move it to the back of the garage where I cannot get to it anymore, get the mower out and especially if I get the leaf vacuum ready, THEN it may snow.

Well, we got our 'snow'. I can count the individual snow flakes :-(  Up to a foot, huh? Somebody at the weather center has some pretty small feet....

A tend of 50's and 60's coming over the next few days, I've decided to stop wearing my coat, simply on principal, especially at work as I work outdoors, a bit cold this morning at 15F, faced thawed after about 20 minutes indoors.

Forecasters called for a storm Wed., so the NH DOT pre-treated the highways in southern NH Tues. afternoon with the salt brine solution.  Easily noticeable when you cross the state border from MA to NH. I work in northern MA and live in southern NH.

Wed. came and we didn't get any precipitation out of it, nothing, and the highways are still coated in the salt brine.  It'll be there until tomorrow when we get rain to wash it away.   They wasted their/our money this time.

Was on the beach road in Hampton at 3PM yesterday.  Kinda hard to tell there was the storm of the century going on just 20 miles east.  Averages 50F next week and roughly 60 by the 15th I declare our winter over.  Sorry Brian no more snow blower.... 8)  Must be because Steve is visiting us today :finger_fing11:

65F forecast for Monday, picking up the yard and maybe getting the truck ready to drive. Not going to rake the left over leaves as I'm sure we'll get some wind in the next month or so. Maybe some snow tonight but it melts the next day now. Thinking of getting a metal detector to walk around the big snow piles at the malls looking for stuff that was plowed under over the winter.

Very strange in Boston.  Stevewfl visits and on that very day winter quits.  Had I known that was all it took would have asked him to visit sooner

Loved it up there!  Flew back last night, out again today with a KTM in the back of the truck Vegas bound for a month!  That'll be home base for ADV riding Utah/NV/AZ/CA

Your "Seaport Hotel" was great. And so was the food at Legal Seafood restaurant and Mortin's!
