Title: ZZR1200 pros / cons
Post by: DeansZG on May 05, 2012, 06:04:24 PM
Looked at / sat on(even had the wife sit behind me) an extremely(under 2k) low mileage '04 earlier today. Little high on the price(about $450 above KBB), but you would've swore it was a brand new bike, it was THAT clean. The salesman did point out one little scratch that I had missed. It does have Muzzy duals & that's where the (only) issue is (to me anyway). Whoever mounted the exhaust, did not line-up the tips. The right one is at least 3 inches above the left one & it looks like CRAP! Went to the Muzzy site & found no info about the duals. I'm guessing about 5 minutes w/ a socket wrench will even the pipes.Yep, the passenger pegs are even height from one side to the other too.

But, for those w/ ZZR1200 experience, what else to look out for?  Briefly looked on the ZZRbikes.com w/s, but not the info I needed. Any other w/s to check out?
Tires were still oem garbage. Will look into better rim protectors if the deal gets done.

Also, what's the best sport-TOURING windscreen for it, or will a Laminar-Lip help immensly?

Is Givi & Corbin the only hard bags for it?

Will more than likely keep using the Shell Rotella T dino oil in this that I've been using in my C10 for the last 146k miles.

What kind of mileage returns have you been getting from your tires & what brands?
Please, not going to debate tires, just post ex; tire brand A / mileage #####

Will also need to add risers, I'm guessing Gen-Mars?  or are there others?

  Thanks in advance!

LSL makes a handlebar conversion kit for it--more leverage to throw the pig around in the canyons. ;D

Fast forward to 6-2-12, Derby Town; Yep, I pulled the trigger, it's mine! ;D  made it home just before midnite after the 400 mile return trip..
Now to start the accessory list.... 1st will be a throttle lock :P  then maybe spencer's seat mods or some gen-mars or a laminar lip......

Overall, how do u like the ZZR1200 sor far? I've also had this bike on the radar too, but not sure to pull the trigger on one thinking it would be too similar to the concours?? Thanks!

My comparison would be to the C10 not the C14.  Still trying to get used to being "back in wind" as the C10 had one of the best fairings as far as wind protection goes IMO. The seat is literally a PITA on the Big Zed. The mirrors give real good views of my elbows too....  All minor annoyances for now. They WILL be remedied in the coming months. Still need to restrain the wrist though, as I'm usually in the danger zone when rolling from a traffic light & that's not even pouring the coals to her either.  ;D
Also for now, I'll go w/ some soft bags but am looking into different hard luggage than what's available out there..... ::)
