28 Degree ride to Wachusett Mtn, MA
« on: December 11, 2011, 03:57:16 PM »
Before I changed the oil and connected the tender I thought I would go for one more ride today. Dressed in layers, put on my warmest gloves and headed out in 36 degree temps, which soon dropped to 32, then 28 as I approached Wachusett Mtn, MA. It was a great ride, fresh and crisp and reminded me why I love to ride.

So bring on the snow, lets go skiing and I look forward to throwing a leg over Connie sometime in April.

Yesterday I took what may be the last ride of the Ottawa ON season. About 20 min., around 0 deg. C, felt the cold worst in the fingers. Thinsulate gauntlets, long underwear, sweater, full leathers.

But, they haven't salted the roads yet, so there's still hope for 'one more ride'.

It was also 28 degrees in Southern Indiana when I left on a 50 mile ride yesterday morning . Beautfull sunny day.  I had my Gerbing liner, gloves and insoles on.  It’s surreal to ride when it’s really cold out and be perfectly comfortable.

We are pretty lucky in southern Indiana, we usually don’t get a lot of snow, just cold.  I was only off the bike for six weeks last winter.  Normally it’s less than that.   :)

SoCal Mtns...40F and out for as nice ride yesterday.

Today?  First serious snow of the year.  5-6" since daybreak and still drifting down.  This is the stuff I call "angel food" snow.  If you live in it, you know it.  A little too warm out for the flakes to stay separate, so they make damp clumps.  The tops of all the trees are frosted with 2" of the sticky stuff, and traction on the roads is pretty good.

Expecting a short break in the weather and then even more tomorrow.

I commute in the stuff as long as there is no standing ice.  Should be nice by Wednesday or Thursday.
