http://youtu.be/YBVnKYOvWcs

actually I heard this wayyyyy before the movie, and fell in love with the lyrics, and the song... heard it in some old roadhouse down in W.Va., middle and I do mean MIDDLE of the night, doors were locked, and we were drinkin, lets say, stuff that ain't for sale... and the "smokes" were free...nuff said.

original version:
I believe was Dick Burnette.. not sure.. earlier it was Emry Arthur in 1928 ... it goes wayyyyyy back,
read thee notes on Dylyn's version...this IS old. but well preserved, and a great song, to be sung, while drinkin whiskey... round the campfire.., well, that's when I always sing it.... ;)
Liked this version myself...

Dylan was/is one hell of a great song writer. But as a singer? Not so much.

Dylan was/is one hell of a great song writer. But as a singer? Not so much.

I think he progressed greatly as he aged... iirc sometime in 06-07, momma and I saw him, and also Willie Nelson ata a concert at the stadium in Richmond, Va,  Willie sounded stoned to the bone, with a mouth full of marbles, and you couldn't go down to the infield for his session... his memorabilia/shirts were $100, whoa...very sucky, BD came on and we relocated our seating, he put on a surpemely stellar show, dressed all in Black, a-la Johnny cash... he got 4 standing ovations, it was the best I have ever heard come from him, and I have seen him more times than I can count... being The Bluesman, I will say I have a LOT of his recordings, he is a milestone of the arts, and will always be in my linup for must have music.

Sorry I didn't post my weekly version of Cleveland music, my bad, we had a funeral this week, and I'm not back up to speed... maybe after the bourbon kicks in, I'll do Sunday Night Edition of House Party...

ok
the week was tough, my brother's 32 yr old Grandson, died this past week, before his time, makes me think my time is at hand...
Very troubling to everyone. I listened to someone who was not capable to communicate' give us an
Hour long sermon about Jesus, and Lazarus... and followed by " amazing grace", sung by someone that looked like he was going out to the garage to change his oil... I was appalled at todays lack of proper respect for those that die, and thoughts about those that come to mourn. Even moreso, the fact they go into public looking, and speaking like they did.

I guess the "straw" was the comment from the eaulagist, that "death just suks, but that's just the way it is.."
i was a bit ......p.o'd. putting it mildly.
Today is actually the Day Of The Dead. Ironic.

in honor of today,   Día de Muertos...

I honor this child, who just died.
godspeed  Jamar "Jake" Tarr...

I will be picking songs for that event, based on my thoughts of our lives, and how short they are.
shortly....

I sang this song, tought to me as a scripture by my mom (grandmother) as a child... it will live on.
http://youtu.be/Ga5EB5uEQHc

and I will sing it over and over, to my grand children, knowing they will sing it to thier's..  and complete the circle.

godspeed young boy... GODSPEED.

the year I graduated, this song came out, and I learned it... had a hard time making my fingers work on the strings today to play it, but the words were still embedded in my mind...
