Palatonia Escort Ride
« on: August 21, 2011, 07:53:38 PM »
Columbus Ohio was the next stop on the Palatonia tour this past weekend. I was asked by some of our Ohio Riders to join in the ride, and escort the est. 5000 bicycle riders that started the run on Sat. morning.
The long group rode their bikes 102 miles from Columbus to Athens, Ohio. On some very good to some very bad roads.
It was an interesting 102 mile ride, avg. speed 15 mph., stops, Holly Crap, to many to count. Fuel economy, terrible, avg. gear, 3rd. Road temps. near 100, temp fan ran about 90% of the time.
I repaired 10 flats, 6 chains and called for medical assistence on 3 riders overcome by heat. No one needed to go to the Hospital, which is amazing with all the riders.
As volunteers, we had plenty of water and food stops, some great celebrations in the towns we rode through. And just some great people, riding to raise money for Cancer research.
Rode them down, and rode the hardcore riders back up today. Was a great trip, slow, but great.
If you ever get the chance to do this in your area, it will be a slow roll, but it is worthwhile.
Pics of the masses are coming, stay safe all.
Greg
Why did we have to run for cover with the promise of a brave new world unfold beneath the clear blue sky ?
