Introducing the new Glock 43
Last month, Austrian arms maker Glock unveiled its latest handgun for the civilian market, and it's tailor-made for concealed carry. Dubbed the "43," Glock describes its new polymer pistol as a "subcompact slimline" and a "single-stack 9mm" -- meaning rounds are loaded into the magazine straight up and down, permitting a narrower grip.

Mind you, Glock has done compact pistols before. Its most recent effort was the .380 (the Glock 42), but that one arrived to less than universal acclaim. So now, Glock is taking the path blazed by Sturm, Ruger (NYSE:RGR), whose well-received .380 LCP pocket pistol was followed in 2011 by the LC9, pleasing gun owners who prefer the more common 9mm caliber, but in an easily concealable package.

Now, Glock, too, is giving customers what they want. Its new gun "Glocks" in with these svelte dimensions:

    1.02 inches wide
    4.24 inches tall
    6.26 inches long
    A 6.06-inch slide

The Glock 43 weighs just 17.95 ounces unloaded. Fully loaded, the gun can carry six 9mm rounds in the magazine, and one in the chamber (making it a "6 + 1"). That's an ammunition load equivalent to what a Beretta Nano can carry, and one round less than a Smith & Wesson (NASDAQ:SWHC) Shield or Ruger LC9. Relative to these two competitors, the Glock 43 is both longer and wider, but not as tall. Its weight slots right in between the lighter Ruger and the heavier S&W.

how is it going to shake up the market? For cryin' out loud, they're the last ones to the table with a single stack concealable 9. It's going to be hard to beat the S&W shield. Sure the fanboys will love it, but it doesn't do anything kahr wasn't doing 15 years ago.  Steve

I agree fully, Dona's dad has one, I fired it and love it, it fits my hand well, and was actually accurate at defensive range of realistic "gunfight" situational respects... hoping it ends up in our collection someday... but hopefully not soon.. meaning I want him around a long time... love that guy with all my heart.

I will say tho, you pay for that quality, base price is 2x what the others have, but then its still 3x the pistol for that money.... it just "feels" good in the hand, unlike the others that call themselves concealment weapons....
I still find the .44 Bulldog fits my use better... and there is no argument about capacity or incapacitation specs related to it in my book of defense...

Even the all metal SIG P-938 carries smaller and weighs less than the poly Glock does... Sorry in my book this is like the Chevy HHR coming out years after the fan fair wore off the PT Cruiser....

I own two Shields one in 9 and one in 40 and they are both awesome guns. And like Steve said Glock was last to the dance.

I am still very happy with my Kel-Tec P11.  I also love the clip attached to it so I don't use a holster. Works great.

I like my Ruger LCP, I carry it every day. I really liked the Glock 43 I looked at. I have a Glock 19 so I have some experience with them. Hmm. That's a nice pistol. Hmmm. Price a bit high, but its a Glock. Carry pistols have gotten so alike, and so good, and so inexpensive the last 5 years......

Oh, that's nice Tony, lovely, and I would carry it too, but the single most important thing to me in choosing a carry pistol, after caliber, is weight. A hunk of steel in my shorts bouncing around is not good.......pistol, pistol, a hunk of steel pistol!

Well I didn't buy that one for pocket carry (as I rarely do) but it only weights in at 24 oz empty (alum frame) and when placed along side my 938 SIG it is just a little bit bigger. With a good OWB holster I would all but forget that I had on the 938 on my side...

I agree, in the winter, I carry OWB, but in the summer, its thin swim shorts type shorts, t-shirt and sandals. I use the inside the pocket sleeve type holster, my Ruger weighs about 12oz. Doubling that to 24oz. is not an option for me. Nice pistol though.

Called the RAMI 2075 it comes in 2 variants both are DA/SA one with a safety and the other with a decocker, the safety version can be had in 9 mm or 40 S&W whilst the decocker is 9 mm only...

Mine is the D currently called the BD which has the decocker...

+1  I love my PM-9, with Tritium night sights.  I wear a lot of "cargo pants" type stuff and usually have a big pocket to hide it in.  Slips into all my motorcycle jackets and the tank bag equally well.

A little late to posting, but I agree completely with the above.  I just bought a S&W Shield last week... the new package with factory night sights and 3 mags.  SWEET.   Compliments my M&P 9 Pro perfectly.

Glock might make some quality stuff, but it is always boxy, and usualy bigger, heavier, and less ergonomic than anything Ruger or S&W offer.  And yes, the LCP wins hands-down on the Glock 42 for size.

Add me to the list for S&W Shield in 9mm. For a striker-fired pistol, I found the trigger to be very reasonable right out of the box.

And I like manual safeties.

Well, I'm "that guy" who buys the cheap gun because I have a hard time believing I'll ever get it back if it gets used as intended.  Not cheap as in crap, but cheap as in inexpensive.  Now that I'm in Texas, maybe it's not such a worry, but I've lived most of my life in Maryland and California, so...not known for kindness towards gun owners...

A while back, I took a chance on a Taurus 740 slim and absolutely love it for carry.  I've put 1000+ rounds through it and had three failures to feed - two from the same box of range ammo, one from a different box of range ammo.  I've never had a self defense round fail to feed or jam, it's the exact same dimensions as the 709 slim, but packs 7 .40 rounds.  I can fit it my cargo pants pocket with a pocket holster, sits pretty comfy at the small of the back in the DiSantis IWB, and fits perfectly into my bike jacket inner breast pocket with that pocket holster as well.  Shot a perfect 250 score on my concealed carry test with it, so it's accurate enough for its intended purpose.  And it cost $280 (+ $25 for a second mag).

Yep, my very first gun so many years ago was a Taurus.  Was a good price.  $280 does make the $620 I sprung for the Shield seem really high.... (but $100 of that was the tritium sights, alone; and it did come with 3 mags, so the extra two should be worth at least another $70 or something).

My first .45 was a Taurus Millennium Pro. I had some ramp issues with it right off the bat, which the factory fixed. Unfortunately, that same handgun is caught up in a recall at the moment. It can go bang if you drop it. I've put it away and will send it in when they call for it.

I suspect that most of the time, Taurus makes an acceptable firearm. I just don't think I can stake my life on the specific issues that this one purports to have.

Semiautos are prone for issues as it is; wheel guns are much more reliable. I like semiautos, but they've got to be rock-solid for me in EDC.

of all the possibles for concealed carry, my choice is always. wheel gun.
I want it to fire when needed.
and I want to be able to make it fire if it fails.

And that was MY first one also- a 9mm Millennium (PT-111 or something?)

I had to send my back for repair because of it jamming, when it came back, it was fixed... but it was a nightmare to strip and I ended up trading it in after owning it a decade.

My thoughts, exactly

The problems with revolvers are they cannot be made but so small, and they don't have much capacity.  They are more reliable, for sure.  That said, I have never had a single problem with any other semi (S&W & Ruger)... and we are talking thousands of rounds.

Semiautos have come a long way in just a few short years. A lot of variables in there, including ammo. Sometimes the gun is just fine, but doesn't like a certain type of ammo. Gotta spend time figuring out what kind of ammo the gun prefers.

Ditto. Great little pistol.

But to illustrate some other semiautos that aren't so reliable, I've seen some trouble -- mostly palm safety spring -- with the Rock Island Armory .45s. These were NIBs and the problem has been corrected, but still...

When I got my Keltec P11 some 10-12 years ago I went right off and did a fluff-n-buff. Since that time I have shot 500-600 rounds thru it. Never a single problem with it. No FTF or FTE, nothing. It has gone bang every single time. I hate the plastic sights but other than that it has been a great little gun.

[www.youtube.com review]

My take on his review (and his review looked pretty well done)

Advantage S&W Shield:
-----------------------------
Capacity (+1)
Grip (comfort)
Sights (metal)
Barrel (recessed)
Mag (full metal)
Recoil (less)
Slide grip (better)
Price (by huge margin)
Warranty (lifetime)

Advantage Glock 43:
--------------------------
Takedown (ambi and 1 less step)
Trigger (smoother)
Weight (2 oz less)

Conclusion- unless you are a die-hard Glock fan, the Shield seems a much bigger winner.

Great review, and it squares with my own research and personal knowledge.

I may have mentioned upthread already, but my EDC is the 9mm Shield. I've carried several types and calibers over the years, and comfort is a big deal with me. The Smith provides decent firepower, exceptional reliability, and great value in a firearm that is both comfortable to wear and to shoot.

My P11 has been very good to me. Admittedly the trigger is not the greatest and the plastic sights suck, but it is good enough for me that I don't feel the need to get another small gun like the shield. I will get a little bigger one next time, the G19.

Hey Tim,
I took a two day close quarters reactive shooting class over ten years ago and I shot my P-11 the whole time. I kicked butt
against all of the big guns that were there. After we were done the instructor wanted to know what I was shooting and was
really impressed by the little Kel Tec.

Fixed it for you. To my knowledge it has never been duplicated and I've done a lot of research.I have a PT145 Millennium. We have decided to just hang on to it and continue using it and accept their "extended" warranty (how do you extend lifetime).if it ever needs anything we wil send it in for repair or replacement.
And I echo the thought on how can the Glock revolutionize concealed carry?

Oh yeah, it's a Glock, the wundergun. I have nothing against Glock, just the atitudes about them, like Harleys.

"And I echo the thought on how can the Glock revolutionize concealed carry?"

Exactly. Glock was 5 years late to the single stack 9/40 market. The ones who revolutionized the concealed carry market were S&W with their Shield, Ruger with their LC9 & LCR revolvers, Kahr with their CM & CW series 9 & 40. Now don't get me wrong I love my Glocks (I own three) but my
EDC weapon is either my S&W Shield 40 or my LCR .38. Glock did what they always do, they do not listen to customer requests and market trends. The single stack market has been on fire for the past 6 or 7 years and the G42, & G43 were last to the party.

I already asked her yesterday in a private message why this thread was moved, since it wasn't political nor did it really stray much from the topic.  No response yet, but she might be backlogged or something.  I am glad I am not alone in my thinking (which means maybe I didn't miss anything, afterall).

Have you seen this one? Youtube has at least a couple videos. The first one looked so fake I'm not even going to post a link to it. Then there's this one:

I can't verify the authenticity, but it appears to be genuine.

 :yikes:

Moderators are under no obligation to explain why they do what they do (except to Admins).  So like I said before, we will just never know.  Time to say "oh well" and move on.
