I always walk our dogs after work and yesterday was no different. We have three small dogs and I always take the oldest, Bosco, and the youngest, Sookie, together first and then I take Agnes last. It just works out better that way, till yesterday...
We were about halfway through our walk when I see a young woman walking a very large Rottie. The dog weighed more than the woman. I saw them first, they were across the street from us, then my dogs saw them. Bosco, being a Dachshund, wanted to go get the other dog and started pulling in that direction. Right about that time the Rottie looked over and saw us. He just glanced at my dogs and then went about his business. I was a bit relieved at that. Just at that moment the woman bent down to tie her shoe and instead of holding onto the Rot's leash, she stepped on it. I had a moment of panic and then the Rot looked over at my dogs and was across the street in a flash. Bosco saw him coming and got ready to meet him.
Bosco is 14lbs and the Rot is at least 120lbs. Bosco was ready (not that it mattered) the Rot was too. I tried to get in between them but it was no good. The Rot grabbed Bosco by the back of her neck and started shaking her. I grabbed the Rot by the scruff of the neck with one hand and I punched it as hard as I could with the other. I don't know how many times I punched the damned thing, I'm not sure if the dog even felt it. The woman was trying to help at this point and I accidently punched her, knocking her over. The Rot finally let go but the damage was done. I wish that I didn't have to see what I saw at that point. Bosco's back was laid open from the base of her neck to the middle of her back. She was bleeding badly and so was I, nothing like she was though. It seems that I got bit at some point.
There were lots of people around us by now and they all wanted to help. One man had a bunch of towels and helped me wrap Bosco up, he then offered to drive me home. His wife took Sookie and walked her to my house. Being after hours our normal vet was closed. After my wife made some calls we found out that the closest emergency animal hospital was 30 miles away. I drove like a mad man and we made it to the hospital. After taking a quick look the vet didn't think that the prognosis looked very good. We spent a couple of hours there before telling Bosco goodbye and we went home. We didn't know if we'd see her again or not.
I just got off the phone with the vet and the prognosis is looking better today. Bosco will have to be transferred to our own local vet this morning; we have to pick her up at 7:30.
The woman who owns the Rot, not the one walking it, told me that they will pay all the vet bills. I had to put down a $600 deposit when we left the hospital.
Please pray for Bosco. She still has a long road to recovery.
-
I'm sorry to hear that, Conrad. I've been a huge dog-lover my entire life and can't stand to see a dog hurt. I hope Bosco makes a full recovery.
-
Prayers for Bosco. Hope your bite wasn't bad. Good job on the cupcake with the Rot even if it was an accident.
-
Prayers for Bosco as well, Conrad... :'(
-
WOW.... I'm so sorry to hear about your little fella.... I have small dogs too, and I worry about big dogs walking them. I'd hate to have to shoot someone's dog, but my 10 pound yorkie would be dead after that treatment...
-
Please pray for Bosco. She still has a long road to recovery.
Will do... Please keep us posted. I would be beside myself if our furry ones were hurt like that.
-
Big prayers for Bosco.
-
I'm sorry to hear about you and your pup Conrad. I had a situation similar to your's with a PitBull, but it was my children instead of a dog. Fortunately I got my kids out of the way but I got bitten in the process and there was a lot of hard feelings between my family and our neighbors (Pit's owners) since the dog was removed from the home and put down.
I hope the process goes as smooth as possible for your family.
-
Boscoe, hang in there lil buddy. Sure looking forward to hearing about the happy homecoming.
-
Sorry to hear that! I'm sure that Bosco will recover from his physical injuries! Keep us posted!
-
What a shame. I will be praying for you and your small loved one.
-
Man, this makes me furious thinking about it!!!!!!!! >:( >:( >:(
This is why I carry when walking mine. If another dog attacks, it's done with!!!!!
I had some less than desirables move in across the street from me last year, and they had two vicious pits. I informed him very quickly that they would die if they stepped foot in my yard! Thankfully he was busted for money laundering and drug sales 4 months later!!!!
Sure hope Bosco is doing better and fully recovers!!!!
-
While I couldn't read the outcome, I'm very sorry to hear about your Bosco. Here's to hoping everything turns out alright. I'm always nervous around larger dogs with my eight poind chihuahua, Bella. Subscribed for the story.
-
Prayers for Bosco as well, Conrad... :'(
+1...
Sorry to hear this C. :grouphug:
-
MY prayers go out to you and to Bosco.
-
Sorry to hear about this.
I am sending you loads of prayers for you and Bosco.
Jon.
-
Hate stories like this...... If you own a vicious dog you MUST be able to maintain control at all times. If you can't you've got no business having a dog like this. Best wishes for a quick recovery.
-
Conrad,
Make sure the Rot is checked and has its shots, it may need to be quarentined since it bit you.
And it needs to be put down, next, take the owner for everything and anything you can.
I love dogs, but some people should not have kids, let alone dogs like a Rot. It is the owners fault, and she should pay, period. Here in Ohio we have plenty of Lawyers that would take this in a heart beat, check your yellow pages, you need one for this fight.
Now i just hope your dog makes it, and you don't get rabies.
Do the math and complete the problem to its outcome.
Ride safer all,
Greg
-
Prayers for the little guy as well as for you and your family. Like PFloydgad says make sure the Rottie has all its shots up to date. Those rabies shots are very painful!
-
I always loved these big dogs. Until we got some little ones. Sorry for what you went through watching this happen.
Now, even though the owner of the Rot is being cool, any chance of punishing them? I raised guard Akitas for a while. There was NEVER a time when these silent killers were within 20 feet of another dog. Thats just not acceptable.
-
Prayers sent to your little girl, Bosco. With today's advanced medical technology, she has a real fighting chance to pull through
to a full recovery. When she sees you and your wife, Bosco will have forgotten all else but her love for the two of you.
For future reference, and I hope you will never be put in this spot again, the best way to get a dog to release his clench is to
simultaneously hit his jaw sockets as strong as you can, repeatedly. This may break his jaw, but that's his choice.
-
+1 on suing her. You have a claim too. Her homeowners insurance should respond to the lawsuit. Take lots of pictures of Bosco's injuries and yours. Those Rotties are born mean as s***. I know first hand how friendly and loving Dachshunds are. Our mini "Porkchop" has yet to meet someone that he wouldn't go home with human or dog. We have a few dogs out here in the woods where we live and some are pretty darn big but thank goodness they are all even tempered and friendly. My prayers are with Bosco.
-
Sorry to hear this, Conrad. My wife and I are just two of the many people pulling for Bosco and hoping for the best. Don't forget to take care of yourself, too.
Formerly owned by 2 mini-Dachshunds.

Hey guys!
Thank you so much for all the prayers and well wishes. You guys are really great and the news is all good at this point.
Bosco continues to improve. She spent the day yesterday at our local vet's office. They monitored her and gave her some IV meds. She's home now but she has to be monitored so that she doesn't rip out her stitches or the drain tubes that are inside of her wounds. The emergency animal hospital used an ingenious wound drainage system that my local vet had not seen before. Bosco has three tubes sewn into her wounds and these tubes are connected to a vacuum canister that sucks out any fluids built up inside of her.
She's on oral meds now only; two pain killers and an antibiotic. She goes back to the vet tomorrow to have the drain tubes and the IV cath removed. She looks like Frankenstein with all the stitches she has. I didn't know it at the time but the Rot also bit her on her lower neck/upper chest area. She's stitched up there too. Thank God the Rot didn't get a hold of her neck and shake her.
I went to the doc's yesterday and had to have a tetanus shot and some antibiotics too.
The animal hospital took lots of pics of her injuries, so that's all documented. I have all the pics on a CD, I won't be looking at them myself. I spent the first night trying not to think about what I had seen, and you know that's impossible. I kept reliving the entire thing in my head.
I'll tell you more about what's going on with the owner after it's settled. I don't want to talk about that part of it in case we end up in court, which after my conversation with her yesterday is looking like a good possibility.
-
Our county animal control officer took my report yesterday and the Rot has been deemed a 'dangerous dog'. This is the dogs first strike, thee and it's 'out'. The Rot is not allowed to be in public unless it's wearing a muzzle.
The animal control officer told me that the Rot was all caught up on its shots.
The animal control officer confirmed what I already knew, the owner is responsible for 100% of the bills incurred as a result of this. Their office doesn't have any 'teeth' (sorry, bad pun) to enforce this law though. So we might end up in court. So far the bills are ~$2k, that's including my doc bill.
-
Hope the little fella recovers C. Good luck with the owner.
-
Thanks Gary.
-
Great news on Bosco.
Time people took responsibility for actions they could have controlled.
Did anyone see the video footage of a guy helping some kids get awy from a group of dogs this week?
As I used to own several dogs (they have sadly departed this earth) I tried to think about other people and their dogs and not just think about me.
Good idea not to discuss the possibility of legal action in an open forum.
Jon,
-
This shudders me to think everytime my wife takes our little ones for walk. They are cairn terriers - slightly bigger than Bosco, but still way small than a Rot. Lexi, the female, is the smallest, but the most aggresive towards other dogs - she is the alpha in our pack of three. I think I will have carry a tazer or a knife if she is taking the dogs out.
-
that is too bad. Or wiener is so hard to walk when others are around the breed is so dumb when it comes to realizing their size. If had a couple dogs attack ours. One was a german shepherd that got loose from owner. I beat the crap out of it and it finally let go. no damage done. and a Pit Bull made a Line for us on the street one day... the guy watching her was not the master and she knew it. Her Daddy came out just in time and Said "Zooey, Get yo ass back here" and she turned and went home. after circling us for a couple turns. I picked up my wiener, Jim, and tried to keep him from eye contact. Once a wiener makes eye contact they escalate things really quick! Sorry about your dog.
-
Good news indeed C. Still sad it happened, I do wish folks would realize that some dogs just don't belong in a city setting. I am a lover of dogs, all breeds and truly believe the adage that there are no bad dogs, only bad owners. I'd bet that given the right setting this Rott would be a great dog. Last year my 80 year old father was bitten by a very large Rott, it is a country, out in the boondocks dog, not aggressive yet very attentive. The owner lives alone in an area where the nearest neighbor is a 15 minute drive away. The dog is his companion and protector. What happened is quite natural, see my father has alzheimers, he was busy picking cockleburs out of the dogs hair, the dog growled once, Papy was told to stop. A coupla minutes later he decided to do it again, buddy and owner were digging something out and their back was too them. As the old saying goes, "I done told you once"! Many stitches later all is well. Dog has a look on his face of I did something wrong, don't know what but I'm sorry.
Another example, my youngest daughter thought she was being cute, she decided to tease my dog with his bone, she was shaking it in her mouth, face to face, he growled once, she thought it was funny, right up to when he took the bone back. Results? Stitches and a new found respect for dogs.
Why the long post? I'd hate to see anyone blame the dog for doing what is natural, it comes down to irresponible action on the owner and not placing fault on the animal.
Again Conrad, so so so happy to hear Bosco is on the road to recovery.
Chet

Dogs are like guns and motorcycles. They can hurt you (or someone else in this case) in a hurry if you don't know what you're doing and aren't careful. I agree dogs aren't malicious, but some have a bunch of natural aggressiveness and a hair trigger.
Similar story with my sister when we were little. She was blowing in the face of our neighbor's basset hound, and he decided enough was enough. She ended up with one stitch on each side of her face and has slightly offset dimples to this day.
-
Those Rotties are born mean as s***. I know first hand how friendly and loving Dachshunds are. Our mini "Porkchop" has yet to meet someone that he wouldn't go home with human or dog.
HA !!! Two of the most unpredictable dogs I've known were Dachshunds.... My sister's Molly Moo was called the spawn of the devil and was feared by man woman and child alike even once you were acquainted with that devil dog. But I do still love the breed as they do have great personalities and are comics in their own right.
-
This hits home hopefully the little one will be fine..the issue is she will never look at big dogs the same way again....I would tell you my personal experience but to painful.
-
Prayers for Bosco, and for you too Conrad. I hope she will be alright. My dogs are just like sons to me. I can only imagine how you feel. Hang in there brutha.
Jay
-
Sorry to hear about that Conrad. Pretty terrifying. Makes me think I should carry mace or a tazer for when I walk my roommate's Chihuahua. Or a gun would be better. Or a frikkin' typewriter (aka Tommy Gun).
-
Hope bosco will get better soon!
Yesterday I rode with duke to Oatman Az, where wild burros run free. Ya gotta be carefull with dogs around them (they could stomp em dead) I pulled duke away from this one after he had a close look at him.

Conrad, good luck with your case. I think you are in a very good position for recovery. After Bosco heals up she's going to have some stories to tell.
-
Thanks again guys for all the well wishes and prayers. They're doing the trick because Bosco is getting a lil better each day. :grouphug:
She slept well last night and today she goes into the vet to have her IV cath and the three drainage tubes removed. She's eating well and drinking. She's still having trouble walking, not that we let her walk much, just when she goes outside to do her business. Part of her walking difficulties are from the IV catheter on her left front leg, it's wrapped in something like a hard cast and her right front leg is very weak because of the muscle damage from the bite.
I spoke again with the animal control officer yesterday and I mentioned that I had pics of the wound, taken at the animal hospital. The officer asked if I could e-mail them to her, I did. She replied that this was the worst wound that she's ever seen (on an animal that lived), the tech at our local vet said that same thing.
The owner of the Rot called me yesterday and he's been in contact with his home owner's insurance company. It seems that the insurance company will be covering all the expenses incurred as a result of the attack. There's way more to this part of the story but I won't bore you with it, I'm not dealing with the woman any longer, only her husband.
As I said above, I have pics of Bosco's wounds but I won't be posting them. I don't want to see them again and I won't subject any of you to this either.
-

Thanks Chet and I agree 100%, no bad dogs just bad owners. I don't blame the Rot for what happened, but if I had a weapon at the time it would have been the Rot who would have paid the price.
I won't be carrying my pistol on our next walk but I will have a collapsible baton and any threatening dog that gets close enough will get a taste of it.
-
Glad to hear Bosco is doing well. It is awful for a dog with such a fine name to be subject to that.

In this situation, in retrospect, do you think a baton would have been enough?

Thanks!
I was walking two dogs at the time of the attack. One dog was trying to get away from the attack, Sookie, while Bosco was ready to fight (bless her heart). So they were both pulling in different directions. IF I had been able to get a baton deployed before the Rot got to us I may have been able to bash it once before it grabbed Bosco. I had let go of both leashes while I was punching the Rot and trying to get him off of her. So instead of punching the Rot I would have been bashing its brains in with a baton at least. I think that would have caused him to release Bosco sooner than it did.
Who knows? I could carry a gun but I can't be shooting every dog that comes near us while were walking. There have been times when large dogs have approached us but they just wanted to play.
Our town does have a leash law but you know how that kind of things goes...
-
Here's Bosco healing up in her bed. She's a bit wonky from the pain meds. That's the vacuum drainage system on the bottom left.

She's so cute...can't wait to meet her.

I wonder how a Taser Stun Gun would work on a dog attack?
Give Bosco an extra treat for me!

I have seen one used on a large mutt in Iraq and that dog dropped like a sack of potatoes. I'm not sure what model it was but it was a smaller hand held version. It also worked good on a mule, not as entertaining as what the dog did, but successful nonetheless.
This wasn't for entertainment, both animals were semi-aggressive to us while we were moving in on a house, so instead of putting a 5.56 round through their melon we incapacitated them long enough to get the job done.

I know it's not for entertainment but I'd about give 10 bucks to see the mule get zapped but I'd be afraid he would kick me in the melon.
Sorry for the hijack Bosco...
-
Bosco had a good visit with her vet yesterday. He removed the IV cath and drainage tubes, then checked the wounds on her back and chest. She's doing very much better than expected. :)
She still has a lot of weakness in her front right leg and the vet isn't sure if it's from muscle or nerve damage. We'll have to wait and see. She's just lucky to be alive at this point.
Her spirits are good and she hates being kept in her crate, especially while the other two dogs get to run around.
-
Sorry to hear about this Conrad but glad she is on the mend.

Glad she is doing better. They should make animal tazers.. dial the expected weight of the offending animal and ZAP!!
-
Captain Kirk's was adjustable.
-
Sorry that was a phaser, these are tazers. ;)
-
Sorry that was a phaser, these are tazers. ;)
I would have set it to one notch above stun and shot the dog and the owner both.
-
Bosco is getting a lil better every day. She's leaking a LOT of fluid from her wound and her bandages have to be changed regularly. The vet says it's normal and not to worry. Her spirits are good and she tried to run in the yard this morning, that didn't work out too well for her. Her right front leg is still very weak.
-
Well, I reckon Boscoe is holding true to the old adage, "It aint the size of the dog in the fight, it's the size of the heart in the dog"!
Great news C, give her butt a good scratch for me!!

I gave her a milkbone for ya Chet, she says that she loves you. :)

I'm so glad your dog is healing. The lady should be jumping for joy you didn't do what some may have...the Rot or your dog wasn't at fault so she really should be happy.

Thanks Steve, I wouldn't have bothered with the shovel.

SOP-fixed it for ya!
C-great news on the mending-I'll have my peaceful English Mastiffs continuing their "doggy prayers"...they hate to see anything hurt-but I wonder what would happen if they ever caught the squirrel they haul ass after every morn :o

I had been carrying pepper spray after I read tazer was deadly to most dogs... I quit carrying the pepper spray,,, Now I am doing it again. I read it on the internet. So it must work?

For some reason I just can't see Pepper Spray working on a Pitt who's clamped onto another dog.
Maybe to scare them away before they get there though.

Yeah i had the same thought... When i read it. After the shepherd attacked our weiner. . . And found out two people kicking the crap out of it did nothing. I dont really wanna test it.
-
Pepper spray works to deter big dogs, you just have to get off the "X" either while you are spraying or immediately after. The key is using it before there is a problem and having good situational awareness so that you don't spray any bystanders, or end up contaminating yourself because you forgot to account for wind (not the end of the world but it will clear out your sinuses).

Believe me, Bosco has plenty of fight in her, way more than is good for her. It didn't matter when the other dog outweighs her by 110 lbs.
We had to take her back to the vet yesterday. She popped one of her stitches, the vet fixed her up.
Thanks for the doggy prayers. :)

Funny how that works some of the smallest dogs seem to have the absolute biggest set of brass cojones when it comes to squaring off with another dog namely bigger ones.... Not all are this way but the Pomeranian seems to think it is an African Lion despite being a dust mop with a perm job.
Glad to hear the Bosco is well on the mend! :)

Just something warm and fuzzy about a 1911 in Condition-1. Cocked and locked baby!!!!
Glad Bosco's doing better!

Bosco had her 10 day exam over the weekend and she's doing great. The vet is very surprised at her progress. She goes back next week to have her stitches removed.
She's even feeling well enough to take the chew bones away from our other two dogs. :D

That is a horrifying story, I can't even imagine. I am so happy she has recovered!
-
GREAT news that she is on the mend. I can hardly imagine what you have gone through to get to this point. again I am very happy the out come is looking good.
give her a pat and treat from another dog lover
-
I just got a call from the owner of the Rottie, they had the dog euthanized this morning. More bad news, it didn't make me feel any better, just the opposite...
-
you have to feel for them. I am sure that was a very hard decision to make. I guess a lot depends on past history with the Rott
but am sure it was hard for them.
-
(not the end of the world but it will clear out your sinuses).
I was wrestling with a crazy ex one day and she jokingly sprayed our pepprer spray into the carpet next to us, just a quick spritz. She thought as long as it didn't hit you, you were good............
about two seconds after she sprayed it we stopped wrestling and we could see the terror come across each others faces as the gas hit us. I spent three hours trying to get my eyes open as mucas spilled from my nose and mouth, The house had to be evacuate, everyone was coughing.
And for three days after every-once in a while I would brush my eye and there must have been something still in my tear duct because eyes slam shut for another half an hour.
I know dogs are tough, but get that in there nose and eyes..... then again I may be underestimating there determination. Plus the collateral damage might be bad too.
Fox labs pepper spray was used in this case.

I don't know about it's use on dogs either. But one day at church a 7 yearold found a bottle in a random Lady's purse and preceded to empty it into the air... Building had to be evacuated. and aired out. It was pretty bad???

And Boo for the Rott and its owners and Glad your dog continues to recover!
-
Glad to hear Bosco is recovering nicely. It's sad the Rott had to pay for the owner's sins. A well socialized dog typically won't act that way without some provocation.
-
Sorry to hear about your trouble.
I had a mini- dachshund too. It about killed me when she passed, just due to old age.
As some other posters already said, its a good idea to carry=all the time. Preferably something that starts with .4

Bosco had her 10 day exam over the weekend and she's doing great. The vet is very surprised at her progress. She goes back next week to have her stitches removed.
She's even feeling well enough to take the chew bones away from our other two dogs. :D
  :chugbeer:

I took the other two dogs for a walk over the weekend, Bosco can't go yet but she sure wanted to!
I can't (legally) carry my pistol but I had a baseball bat with me. I got some strange looks from the folks along the way. I ordered one of these from Amazon and it was just delivered. I'll at least have this and my cell for all future walks.
I also ordered an 'assisted opening' knife. I know that switchblades are illegal but dang, you press a button on this knife and the blade springs out in a big hurry.
-
I was hoping you'd get that 5 million volt stun baton and find a reason to test it on a cat or something.
-
Conrad,
Pepper spray works well on aggressive dogs. I know from experience that it works on 200+lb men.

My Aussie hates men in uniform ever since a young cop sprayed him. I was frikin ticked off. 200 yard private driveway, at the door, dog is barking and showing pearlie whites. Obvious the kid (criminal) he was looking for wasn't there, he sprayed anyway. He did leave a note. Mailmen drop stuff out the window knowadays.
FWIW, get OC, stay away from the cheaper maces. Think hot day, hand to hand techniques, cuffing techniques, ASP training and a conclusion of a shot accross the brow. I wish I had gills, my face would still be buried in that bucket. Worse part? Sunburned ears, yeooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!! We don't shoot officers to demonstrate the efficiency, why do we spray em? A sniff in a bucket is bad enough. And a huge word of caution during shower time, all that water is moving south, if you get my drift. Be sane, get a tazer or Steves idea.

Hey Jim!
Bosco wants me to thank you VERY much for the get well card that you sent to her! She didn't like the song as well as she liked the pictures! You're a good knight sir.

I'm still looking into that. I've found out that Illinois won't let you carry one of those around but any county law pertaining to this supersedes the state law. I'm having a hard time getting the scoop on what the county will allow.
I'd never try one of these out on a cat but there was a bad driver the other day I'd like to demonstrate the efficiency of one of these on.

I don't know about the new stuff but I have less than fond memories of basic training at Ft Knox and having to take my gas mask off inside the CS chamber. :o
I tried to hold my breath, the DIs are wise to that trick. :'(

Bosco got all of her stitches out on Saturday and the vet gave her a clean bill of health.
I took Bosco out for a short walk yesterday, her first since the attack. She was VERY happy to be outside. She has a noticeable limp but she didn't seem to mind too much, she was just happy to be out and about.

I spoke at length with a Sgt of our county's Sheriffs Police and according to him it is legal to carry a stun baton as a defensive weapon while I'm walking the dogs. So there you have it.

I just got a call from the owner of the Rottie, they had the dog euthanized this morning. More bad news, it didn't make me feel any better, just the opposite...
Conrad that is sad to hear considering that the Rott was probably with the wrong people in the first place.
Glad Bosco is all raring to go.
Jon.

picture of your Dog is awesome! So glad it recovered. A repaired dog is just as good as a new one. Did she calm down the weiner dog instinct to act like a large attack dog since the attack?

If a large dog approaches us while we're on our walk, that dog will 'need to know' and will find out the answer to that question right quick. ;)

I swear that one of my dogs eats frankenbeans.....
But seriously it turns out that we have an aggressive boxer mix that gets loose in the neighborhood every so often. Today was my day to meet this mutt while cutting grass... He has me worried as he stands he ground and does not back off when you try to run him off. It took a rake and a garden hose to finally shoo him out of the yard. I swear that if I would have had my gun in pocket I would have thought about shooting this dog as he really worried me.

"Could" is the optimum word here. This is were good owners of big (any) dogs come into play. My American Bulldog is VERY well trained and extremely obedient. Yes he will tear your arm off and make you watch him eat it when provoked. When my wife or myself are home we decide what is "provoked'. If Chunk is home alone then your welcome to come on inside and discuss what the correct action is. I cannot guarantee that you will both agree on the decision.
Chunk loves dogs, the smaller the better. I think he has a big brother complex.
He is a 130lb of love and and OH SH!T this dog can run really fast :yikes:

We have a Pit Bull in our neighborhood that bit a young boy last month and I almost unholstered my pistol when it ventured a little to close to me while I was mowing (I was about 30 feet from the dog). My neighbor noticed that my mower stopped running and saw me reach towards my hip to pull my shirt up with my weak hand and started screaming at the dog to come back. I told her that if she or the county won't take care of her dog that I would be happy to. ;)
-
So many people are scared of my puppy cause he is a large dog. Its the stupid people that come up and say "what a beautiful Pit, I had one that looked just like him". Oh yeah you had an American Bulldog then
Large breed dogs do get a very bad wrap and it mostly from the misinformed. Am Bulldogs score in the top five breeds on the National temperament scale.
I agree with what has been said here. It's the owner that makes a dog bad.
-
My parent's have an American Bulldog and she is nothing more than a 100 lb lap dog. She plays with my kids and is one of the most gentle dogs that I have ever seen. It is a shame that so many dog owners taint their animals and make them ill tempered when they could actually be a family pet.

Kinda like this? This was our female before we had to put her down. God she loved her sweater.

Your county animal control didn't do anything about that dog? The Rottie that attacked my dog (and bit me) was declared a dangerous dog by my county animal control officer and the dog was not allowed to be in public without a muzzle and on a lease controlled by an adult. The stupid owners ended up putting the dog down because they didn't want to be responsible any longer, not that there were much as it was.

Since the biting incident the dog has been outside chained up to the back deck about 99% of the time. I think it is a bit of an escape artist and tries to roam the neighborhood, but I don't know what the ruling was by the county. Possibly they are pending trial and the county is waiting until then to make a ruling. I guess I could make a call to the Sheriff's dept and see what [if anything] they can tell me. I have been in contact with the owner of the house and he had no idea his renter's even had animals so maybe the whole shady family will be gone soon. I will pop open a beer and stand on my driveway while I give them a "friendly" send off. ;D

I can send over Chunk if they need another driver to help move.

Yep when one of our little guys (all girls) has done something wrong I know who the guilty one is by who will not make eye contact and walks out of the room when I ask who did this..... Which is usually a turd on the bathroom floor.

Update on Bosco.
She's just about back to 'normal', I'd say 99.9%. Her limp is just about gone and she's back to her old self again, bossing our other two dogs around and stealing their bones away from them. She is the Queen after all.
I received two checks in the mail yesterday from the rottweiler owner's insurance company that covers our expenses. So this sad story should be at an end.
