Steering stop mod??
« on: December 02, 2016, 09:09:23 AM »
Was wondering is anyone has shortened their steering stop so you get more turn angle?
Just seems if you trim off a little in the middle, then you can get more turn for parking lot handling.

I don't know of anyone that's shortened them, but I do know some people who removed them completely to install different forks. I would venture to say it's totally possible, but if you drop your bike the chance of damaging the steering stops and your tank will be much greater. Also might want to check all lines, cables, and wires with the extended swing for binding / pulling.

Adjusting the steering stops was done on the cop bikes. Might find it here with a frustrating search effort.

I see that it was done to the C14. Is the previous police model (KZ1000P) a concours variant?

Nope  There was a KZ1000.  It came in several different flavours...   Here's an early one :

Nice bike. My buddy had one - not the police model..

Pretty popular as a project bike - lotsa them were made into bobbers...

It's all good, I thought you were talking about a C10. The more I think about it the more I want to attempt this mod though.

Double check clearances and cables before you commit with the die grinder.

Understood.  This is a project bike, and the tank already has dimples from the fairing, but I'll check bar clearances.

BTW, nice KZ1000.  I once had a 76 KZ900 like that... really quick in a straight line. 8)
