I just went the other way. I just got hired at my new job (at the age of 64) as an R&D Mechanical Engineer at the company that used to be Hewlett Packard (which I worked for back in the day). The division I report to (Chemical Analysis Group) was one I tried to get into back in the early 90s but it didn't work out at the time.

For me, this is my dream job, couldn't be happier. Retirement is the last thing on my mind, I am having WAY too much fun. I love it.

I've got to work one day in 2014 to receive my employer's 2013 contribution to my retirement, so 1/3/14 will be my last workday.  I've been almost OCD with my savings since as long back as I can remember, so I'll be OK financially however I do have some concern with how I will occupy my time.  One thing I know for sure, is that I don't want to continue doing what others want me to do.

Thanks G!

Yep, now it's time to get down to the serious business of doing nothing and getting paid to do it. Hmm, I guess that's not much different than before I retired only now I don't have to leave the house to do it.  ;)

Retired three years ago  - in reality it was a sabbatical, spent a year touring on the Connie, and then decided that I did not like my mind and body morphing into old age. Took on an encore career last year that added the adventure of moving to  Washington, DC and renting an apartment, something I had not done for 40 years.  I will retire again at full retirement in a few years - in the mean time, I will add to my next egg.

Retirement is a good. It just was not for me.

Life Is Good!

I am now officially semi-retired.

The village that I live in (yes, they call it a village) installed water meters last year and now that the meter system is ready to go (folks paid a flat rate before this) they needed someone to walk around town and read them. I am that someone!  :)

Not a bad gig actually. I work 2 to 4 days a month walking around town with my scanner reading the meter info and then transferring the info to the village's computer. I even have my own key to the village hall!
