Camping Trailers for C-10
« on: June 23, 2012, 01:11:31 PM »
I am interested in options to get a trailer for my 2003 Connie.  A trailer that isn't going to be too much weight and one that has storage within and sleeps one.  Any suggestions for products?  I've done some searching and cost can be high if buying new and I wonder about them being around 300lbs.

Any suggestions, besides Ebay?  please copy your text response to calinphotography@aol.com as I don't check this forum often.

I pull a very small and light trailer behind my 02.  I would be very hesitant to pull anything like a bunkhouse.  My bike had a an issue maintaining 75mph pulling my trailer down to Ar; I had it loaded up quite well and I cant believe it was anywhere near 300#
My fuel mileage tanked for sure.  I think I was only getting 170 miles per tank :(

Yeah, they show Wings and HD's pulling them in their literature. I've seen some trailers pulled by Concours, not sure what the weights were, they weren't dedicated campers, but I'm sure theres folks who have them though.

I also looked at camper trailers to pull behind the venture.....  decided that for me it wasn't worth the price, at least not at this time.   What are you planning on doing (aside from the obvious of camping).   A big long road trip?  basecamping and riding?  mostly just curious, I think the campers are neat, and I am sure my wife would prefer them to a standard tent  ;D

The campers are truly awesome.  My father has a newer Bunkhouse w/AC. When its broke down and packed away it is damn near the same size as my Starlight trailer.  The bunkhouse is heavy; but then he is pulling it with his GL1800.  He says the only drawback is that when he is pulling it tire life is cut in half.

Is he going to bring it to the spider this fall, or is he going to bring the C-10?  I have a buddy that pulls one with his HD-Road King, but I have never seen it set up outside of his driveway yet!!!

I think he is bringing the wing. I think he decided my connie was a little more on the Sport side of touring. He had a great time; but I think he got a little nervous

I pull a Harbor Freight 40 x 49 trailer usually only with a dog kennel and my dog on board. Probably under 150lbs and like snarf said, it really hits the mpg. Like less than 40 with the trailer and dog when I usually get 46 2up without the trailer. The wife and I took it camping once with the dog and it was really loaded. Easily 250 probably 300lbs. We had to go from less than 1000 feet to over 6000 feet in about 30 miles. Worked the bike pretty hard and I had to keep an eye on the temp guage. It was over 90 at the lower elevations and if I tried to push too hard the gauge just wanted to climb. I never had a problem maintaining 65+ when I wanted too though. I will never load it as heavy as that first camp trip but i use it almost everyday for the dog and we have been camping with it again but I will never load it as heavy as the first time again. Some of those trailers posted by Strawboss may be light enough to work.

Yes, I'm sorry, but I'm stealing this thread for a minute. ::)

46 MPG with 2up?!! :o

I've got an '06 with 14K on it and I can't squeeze 38 MPG out of it.................on a good day!  46 2 up?
Does this mean we get a "Re-Do" on life too?

Yes, Tele, 46mpg 2up. I stay usually within 5mph of the speed limit and although I like spirited driving in the twisties, I rarely flog it. I have a 26.5" CB, Steve's exhaust sprocket and the intake cam retimed, Steve's 2 minute mod, stick coils, iridium plugs, Pilot GT's and stock gearing (the 7th gear mod is still on the list but not likely financially). I believe most of the credit goes to the 2 minute mod. When you find the sweet spot with the foam the results are impressive. I made a slider for the airbox inlet which replaces the foam just to make maintaining the sweet spot easier than trimming foam. Oh, she's an 03 with about 40,000. The fastest color and apparently the best mileage too. :rotflmao:

And just to add, my 2001 has 68,000 miles on it and two up, I'll regularly get over 40mpg and in the mountains where we coast down, sure, I've gotten 45mpg no problem. Every bike is different, every rider is different, every road is different, so many variables, so many results.
