New owner of a 2005 Connie
« on: August 04, 2014, 01:48:59 PM »
Hello, my name is Cliff, and I am a bike-a-holic.  My latest slip was the purchase of a 2005 C10 with just shy of 22,000 miles on it from a friend.  I don't think he ever washed it, so he must have been a KLRista at heart.

This bike is now very clean!  I replaced the rear tire, fixed the cam locks with a pair of hose washers, and put on a Murph's peg lowering kit.  As I am recovering from the effects of a serious laydown of my 2008 KLR, I have only ridden the bike twice.  Once for gas (2 mile round trip) and once to get the rear tire put on (33 mile round trip).

So far, I think I'm in love with the bike.  Need to get my right ankle limber enough to use the rear brake seriously, but that's my problem, not the bike.

Previous rides:

1977 Honda CB125, 1977 Honda CB200, 1979 Honda CB500, 197x (75 - 78, somewhere in there) Kawasaki 750 with Vetter Windjammer fairing, 1980 Yamaha SR500, 1980 Honda CX500 with Vetter Quicksilver fairing.

Took 25 years off, then picked up a 2008 KLR650, and now the Connie!

Pleased to meet you. There's a lot to be said for not washing a bike.

Welcome to the forum Cliff. We are an eclectic group to say the least. May I ask, how did you like your KLR? :chugbeer:

Welcome Cliff.  What are the cam locks?  I am drawing a blank.

Hey Brian,

I'm guessing the fairing storage pocket lid locks. Someone, maybe Outback, posted up using a hose washer on the threads to hold the lock in place iff'n the nut is missing. My brother's bike has one.

Iff'n he ever gets out to meet y'all, you can ask to see it firsy hand. I think he only charges a paper dollar to see it.
