My wife talked me into going to see The Dark Tower yesterday. $13 for us both to get in, not bad. $10 for a medium popcorn, bad.

This is the first time in YEARS that we've gone to a theater to see a movie. The local theater was remodeled last year and I have to say that they did a fantastic job of it! Great electrically reclinable lounge chairs with tons of room. The video was top notch and I can't say enough good things about the audio! Absolutely the best I have ever heard.  :hail:

The movie was actually better than I thought that it was going to be. Having read the reviews (see the review that I quoted above) I wasn't expecting much. Basically the premise was the same as the book only stripped way down. Some elements were added to the movie that certainly were not in the book, not even close. Having read the Dark Tower series did give me some insight as to what was going on in the movie but it also showed what was missing. Oh well.

The ending did leave the door open for a sequel though.

My rating? 6/10 Not great but not bad either. It's worth seeing but I won't be buying the disc when it comes out.

Even though I gave it a mediocre rating, this movie has earned the coveted Conrad Seal of Approval (because I waited so long for this movie to finally come out and it didn't suck).

Have not seen it but have seen the still ads: It is really tough to see Sigourney Weaver so very old. I mean, she is aging fine and all, and in fact I think it is great she has not ruined her face / looks or made herself look ridiculous with plastic surgery in an effort to look 20 again but still, just the fact that Ripley, the alien a$$- kicker looks like a grandmother about to be a great- grandmother is a bit disheartening. And of course none of this is her fault or problem, it is on my end exclusively. Hey, I was not too happy when John Hurt died of, basically, old age either.

Back to the topic at hand: more than willing to take a look in this dearth of anything decent to watch. Or as another put it long ago: the Vast Wasteland.  ;) ;D

If you'd like to watch it, make sure you watch Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist first. From good to not so good in that order. Don't give up on Iron Fist, its not as bad as you think.

If you'd like to watch it, make sure you watch Daredevil,

I finished the first season of Daredevil and was pleasantly surprised.  In many ways it is as good or better than The Flash.  I am about 1/3 into the second season and it isn't progressing as well as the first, but it is still early.  But I give it my "thumbs up".

Just watched "The Lost City of Z" last night and was underwhelmed.  Seemed to drag and lacked something, and the ending was predictably disappointing.

Season 2, while not amazing, it isn't as good as season 1.
Jessica Jones (only season 1) was also amazing.
The other two are good, but not great, but you may find them necessary prior to watching Defenders.

HBO documentary on Adam West.  He died this year June 9, 2017.   He was type cast as Batman and it ruined what career he had until the last 15 years or so of his life.  He found fame as a voice actor and doing appearances.  No one would really touch him as a movie/TV actor.  An amazing individual.

I believe that there was some touching going on during his 'soft porn' days.    ;)

"Indian Summers" British TV show aired on PBS last few years. Takes place in 1932, tells about the twilight of British rule in India where a few thousand Brits ruled millions of Indians.

Sideways ONTOPIC:

Perusing through Netflix, I tripped over the series The American Experience, a PBS series that goes back something like 35 years. Certain individual episodes have been some of the best TV I have ever seen so I got kinda' excited and hit the icon..... and found all three episodes Netflix carries. DOH!

Sideways probably NOT ONTOPIC:

The Netflix interface is horrible.  Browsing to see what is out there is nearly impossible.  It is a huge mess of stupid categories and infinite sliding panes.  If you don't know the NAME of what you want, good freaking luck.  Want to look by date?  Nope.  Want to know when it was added or originally aired?  Nope.  Search by keyword?  Not really.  Build lists?  Nope.  Separate what is or isn't a "movie"?  Nope.   And I am quite sure it is DESIGNED TO BE THAT WAY so people think there is all kinds of stuff out there and obscure what isn't.  Don't even get me started about no settings- no way to turn off stupid auto-play, no way to see status of playback without pausing.  Etc, etc.  At least it is relatively cheap.

I enjoyed Bosch season three on Amazon, now just starting Mr. Mercedes on Directv's AT&T's Audience. I enjoyed the first episode/pilot, time will tell if I finish it.

Jessica Jones  (Just finished Daredevil, so it looks like I am sucked into the Marvel Universe and have to go through it all, now)
