2009 C-14 Side bag question (Black Matt finish?)
« on: September 06, 2013, 06:16:28 AM »
Did a search, but couldn't find exactly what I was looking for, except 1 post where some one rattle can painted their side cases.

I'm looking at a new to me ride.  Have looked at a 210 FJR1300 and am looking at a Black 2009 C-14 (Non ABS) this weekend.  In looking on Craigslist, I found another 2009, Maroon - ABS version, with less miles but less add ons.  Same price.  However, what concerns me are the side cases on this one?  Any insight as to what these side cases are is appreciated.  I definitely like the C-14 better with the matching side cases as opposed to these matt black cases.  However, if this is easily fixed, how would one go about that?  I like the Maroon better, but not by much and I have heard great things about the ABS.
My current ride is a 2002 ZZR1200.  I found the FJR to be a nice ride and excellent ergos, but was underwhelmed by the power compared to my ZZR.  Hoping the Connie has more oomph.

Any other info on the '09 Connie is appreciated.

It looks like they sprayed the original bags to cover/prevent scratches.  It happens.... I did already.... Throw a leg over- but not quite far enough, and you give a good kick to the bags.  There are other options that keep the color, but that looks to me to be plasti-dip or some similar coating.  Sometimes they can be removed.  I'm sure you could get new covers too, but I know they are not cheap.

I was looking at a used '09 with similar miles, slightly higher price tag, back in June.  I was able to find a NEW '12 for $3K more.  Easy decision for me.... I had never had ABS before, but will not likely have a bike without ever again.  It is that good.  I know some don't like the linked brakes, but I don't mind them.

+1 On the sprayed on bedliner

I have a 2010 (gen 2) with linked ABS. I love it but a lot of people don't like the Kawasaki linked brakes on this bike. Not sure if the 09 ABS brakes are linked or not but I would suggest you give it a ride before pulling the trigger.

+1 on the bedliner.  Did it to my bags to keep the scuffs down.  Wouldn't pay 7500 for that bike, but they're not so far in the stratosphere with that as an asking price that getting them down to a good price wouldn't be outside the realm of possible.

Since I only have Kelley Blue book and NADA, can you tell me what a nice '09 should go for?  Both ABS and Non-ABS?

Yeah, JoeRau sent me a link to a '12.  Very tempting and I have a 1 way free flight expiring pretty soon.  Just not sure I can pull that off, but am looking into it and contacted the seller already.  :-)

Going to look at a black '09 tomorrow, 11,500 miles, excellent condition, Two Bro's carbon fiber exhaust and a few extras.  I'm thinking this bike has been meticulously maintained.  Just wondering if 7 ish is a good offer or maybe 6800?
