2011 w/ 500 miles. It is idling at 1000rpm. Once in a while it cuts out at a stop. Should the idle be higher?
-
Yes, 1200-1250. Shifting will smooth out as well.

Well that answers that question,I always thought my idle was a little too high, but that is what it runs at.
Cool thanks 8)

I did not know the 2010 has a different idle speed than the 2008?
I saw that Kawasaki lists 2 different idle speeds for the 2008 ABS C14 (California)
2008 Kawasaki Spec Sheet (off OEM web page) for 2008 C14 ABS lists idle speed at 1000 +/- 50 RPMs
2008 C14 ABS owners manual page 185 lists idle speed at 1050 - 1150 RPM
Not sure which is correct. I have been using the owners manual ~ 1,100 RPM.
I may try the 1250 as smoother shifting would be nice.

Do you want to do what the manual says or do you want it to work (this is to no one in particular)? Set it to 1250 or so and forget about it.

Yes, Yes! 1,200-1,300 worked great on my 08! ;D
-
my '08 likes it better at 1200-1250 as well
-
Do as Jim commands!!!!!!
-
When I picked mine up new it was over 1300, I took it down to 1150 and it works great there. I'm sure some do better at higher idle but mine likes 1150......Shifts great.
-
OP, in case you didn't know there is a little silver knob on the lower left side, in front of and below the shifter, for adjusting the idle so it's easy to fiddle 'til she runs good for you ;D
-
My 09 was at about 1200+ when it was new, at 600 mile service I asked the dealer if that was a little high because it had a loud clunk going into first from neutral, he adjusted down to about 1050 - 1100 and I still get a slight clunk when going into first gear but all the rest are good.

+1!

Its 1150/1200 for me.

Clunk is normal....

Mine does not clunk as hard after lowering the idle.
-
I had to turn my idle down as well. Still get a clunk, but I like it. There's no mistaking that you put the bike in 1st gear.

I use my gear indicator ;D
-
Suzuki "clunk" into 1st is worse in my opinion.
-
No way. By far a Harley Davidson clunking into first gear is by far the hardest clunk you'll ever hear out of a motorcycle transmission. Good thing those Harley trannys are just about bullet proof!

I was just comparing to the Kaw, yes Hardly Ablesons are the worst into first. :)

Yet another feature that I really love on this bike. But have you ever had your indicator go blank? I have, and that's when the clunk is a good back up lol.
