From the book 'Anguished English', in the section about parents writing school excuses for their children:

"Please excuse Ray Friday from school. He had very loose vowels."

"Please excuse Pedro from being absent yesterday. He had diahre dyrea direthe the $hits." (some letters substituted)

"Please excuse Tom for being absent yesterday. He had diarrhea and his boots leak."

During the Wife Carrying Championship, held annually in Sonkajärvi, Finland, contestants carry a woman -- it needn't be their wife -- over an 832-foot course with various obstacles en route. Dropping the woman incurs a 15-second penalty, and the first team to reach the finish line receives the grand prize -- the weight of the "wife" in beer! This bizarre event traces its origins to the 19th century when a local gang of bandits commonly stole women from neighboring villages.

a tomato is a fruit, not a vegetable.

And a peanut is not actually a nut. It's a vegetable.

Whenever someone tells me that ". . . I'm surrounded by idiots . . ." usually in reference to a work or family situation, my first thought is always:

How dumb are you to end up surrounded by idiots?

True... often it IS the one in the middle that is the biggest idiot....
Recently, I took the bottom shelves out of my garage fridge and put in a 16 gallon keg.
This required a one-time deposit (I like to call it an 'investment") of $70... $30 for the keg, and $40 for the tap.
When the keg was empty, I got my $70 bucks back.  What an idiot!

You cannot fold a piece of paper in half seven times. Go ahead and try.

Note that Mythbusters finally found a way to beat this, but it required a sheet of paper half the size of an airplane hanger, a gang of people and a steam roller.

+1 on MythBusters!  They take a look at really different stories and bust the h___ out of them.

Why is it that when I drink a beer out of a bottle and take a couple of swigs then set it down look somewhere else and then it bubbles foam out of the top?

Hmmm, sounds like your drinking defective beer Jim. Keep your eye on it next time you set it down.

Well, a couple of ideas here Jim- 1) put your fob in the other pocket and 2) use a coaster. Maybe one made out of some kind of wood.... something nice that you would be proud to have your beer sit on. Perhaps something like Amboyna Burl from Southeast Asia?

Kirby suggested using a glass and not drinking like an animal but I told him to quiet down and look after his nuts.

The trick is to quickly make more room in the bottle for the bubbles.
For what its worth, I 'm a "bottle baby" too.

I cannot believe we (the collective 'we') have let this thread die. So just to start it up again....

If you mix raw eggs with hard boiled eggs, how can you tell them apart without breaking or cracking the shell? Easy- spin them on a counter or table top.... raw eggs will not spin well but cooked eggs will spin very well. If the egg makes more than about four turns, it has been boiled.
