I totally agree.  I turned off the talking bit so in some respects, I'm not embracing the technology where you speak to a device and it does what you tell it.  It certainly hasn't worked with my children and wife.  Many times OS' get upgraded and there really isn't anything of redeeming value in it from the user's point of view except support.  And speaking of support, I've never called any support on my WinPCs.  Done it all myself.  Windows 8 was universally panned by the masses.  It got better at 8.1 and usable with my start8 software but there were still misgivings over the the entire episode.  Windows 10 has addressed many of those misgivings and has had many good reviews.  I'm still working out the kinks as far as my setup goes....still that weird error with the Conexant audio on boot.  I'll fix it eventually, though.

Interesting time line of Windows OS...  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timeline_of_Microsoft_Windows

Windows 10 is actually SKYNET. I had to turn off auto update to stop an unrequested, unasked for upgrade to 10. My f..king computer is telling me what I have to do?  >:(

Updates are different on 10 I'm finding.  Not as much rebooting but the fixes are cumulative and now they have build levels.

I'm using Symantec (I get it for free), Malwarebytes, Cryptoprevent, and Aomei backup.

Thought I had contracted a virus the other cause Firefox was spawning tabs all over the place.   Panic had set in.  Then I removed the notebook from the corner of the keyboard and all was well.

There's an app for that...

Strangest thing, since around the win10 upgrade time, noticed that  I can type messages, but no longer can I add any graphics or smilies on my posts..

I finally turned on a "real" computer again a few weeks ago and again the box popped up to "upgrade" to W10 now or choose a time. So I selected 10pm and figured it would do its stuff. Nothing happened, but haven't had the box pop up again since.
So, the old laptop is still basically unused and still W7.
Maybe next time.
This street bike thing is all new to me.
Snowmobiles-I have a bunch of those.
