Title: Take spare key on solo trip?
Post by: bhodge10 on June 27, 2014, 05:55:30 PM
I will be heading out west from Cincinnati, OH to Colorado on a 7-10 day trip. I have an 08 Connie which means i have Kipass. Question is, while i dont plan on losing my key, should I take my spare Fob and if so, where do i store it? Somewhere on me or somewhere on the bike? Problem with on the bike is even if i leave the bike, the key will be in range to enable the bike to start. Looking for any ideas. Thanks.

Take the battery out or wrap it in foil.

Can it really be that simple of a solution?!? Thanks!

I leave one fob zipped up in a sleeve pocket in my jacket, and one zipped up in a hip pocket in my pants. It's ATGATT with me, so that means the key will always be with me.

I keep the slim passive FOB hidden on the bike. need an allen wrench to get to it. With an active FOB I would put thin plastic between one of the contacts of the battery. Allows you to keep the battery in the FOB.

I'll bet that I know where it is...     ;)

Faced the same on a recent trip, no where to keep the FOB secured on my 09 that does not require a key, put a new battery in the FOB I use all the time and put it in my jacket pocket, I wear the jacket when ever I am on the bike

Yeah you probably do. But I'm confident a fellow zggtr member will not see my bike somewhere, recognize it, guess where the FOB is hidden an steal the bike.

I keep the fob in my pants pocket and put a passive fob in my jacket. Hopefully can't lose both at the same time. Do this even if going for a short ride.

I keep the passive key fob on my key ring of keys that stay secure in my pocket at all times.  I also have a photocopy of all important paperwork and a hundred dollar bill just in case the wallet turns up missing.

I would say that your confidence is well placed.    :)
