Title: I laid my Connie down today
Post by: KoonKranky on December 20, 2016, 11:50:42 PM
The bike has some road rash but i dont have a scratch. The thing is, I cant really figure out what happened. The main gate where I work exits onto a roundabout. Its a stretch of pavement I've riden literally hundreds of times. I was in second gear, going maybe 20 mph when I passed through the gate and turned right to enter the roundabout. I felt the bike lose traction and next thing I know I'm down on the LEFT side facing the wrong way on the road. Happened so fast I can't really wrap my brain around what happened. I picked up the bike and pushed it onto the island in the center of the roundabout, did a walkaround to assess the damage, started her up and rode home. It did snow a bit about 10 days ago and there was some sand  that had accumulated in that spot and the bike felt a little squirrely going through there last week. So, I fugure that's probably what caused me to lose traction. What I don't get is how I wound up on my left side when I was turning right. If anyone can shed some light on the situationI'd appreciate it.

Thanks.

You either high sided (not likely or you would have been thrown) or you turned in to the swerve to correct, then it slid out on the left. No other explanation. And yes I don't doubt it could happen in a blink of the eye. Was on my Suzuki DR650 the other day on perfectly dry pavement turning left from a light. Going less than 10 mph and the rear just slid out. Only a 350 lbs bike and I was able to put a foot down and save it from going down. Had that happened on the C14 I would have gone down.

Happened to me once riding down to Capitola, CA. Very twisty road, just putting along and then I am on my butt watching the bike slide away. It was weird, but no harm, no foul and I continued on without thinking too much about it. That evening we went to the neighbors for a swim and the hostess asks me what happened to my leg. Not having any idea what she was talking about I looked down and my leg was black and blue from top to bottom?????? Then I remember the get-off and muttered something about crashing on my scooter. She looked at me like I had just grown another head.

I feel your pain Bro...... Had the same happen to me 2 weeks ago. Rear wheel got onto some lose gravel, taking my rear end from under me. was on the tarmac before I realised what happened. Missing mirror cover and some scratches on the fearing is about it.
