Are you running in "econo" mode?  I'm in the mid to high 40s on my '12.  I don't do any city riding.  Maybe a 5 traffic light town between stretches of state and county roads.

Yes, almost always (unless I forget to swich to it...)

'08 with full Area-P, flies removed, BMC air filter, PCV w/auto-tune.  Dyno showed 151.35 HP.  Mileage overall(combined) is around 37-38. I must be doing something wrong. Everyone else getting 40-55 mpg?  Maybe I'm carrying too much weight, I mean the bike and myself.

I have a stock 08 and the best I have gotten is 43mpg but I don't ride a lot on the slab  I prefer the back roads and twisties and usually am riding the bike between 3800-4500rpm.  More often it is between 39-41mpg

The best economy doesn't occur on the slab unless you are laying on the tank because the drag is exponential with speed.  Best economy occurs on the 55 mph state roads or 45 mph country roads.

Additionally have a very short screen (stock 08) all the way down and in the hottest weather you can stand..

That's why I don't worry about mpg much.  :)

Your right about the wind drag. when I got 52mpg at 65 mph I was running my shortie windshield,no trunk and no bags.
If you still have fuel in the tank, you are not lost yet

And then the bad idea fairy hit me....

I know itd look beyond retarded, but im just curious how much side skirts to direct the wind around the saddlebags, and trunk would help.  Just a small triangle attaching behind the knees, and to the canyon cages.

Not gunna do it cause itd look dumb, but still curious.

You would need to create a teardrop shape from front to back for the best aerodynamics. Kinda like a sperm going down the highway.  LOL!

LOL!!! Well, I don't ride a silverdammit, so I'm good there. It just be a dark blue blob lol.

That said, I didn't think about the back pressure/turbulance. I don't think it would be too bad but at the same time, its becoming more and more common to see semi's/ big-rigs/ lorries,  with  skirts, and now back flaps to create the teardrop shape.

So much that has been said is correct. Lower drag, hotter weather, go slower, etc. so I present an aero example below that just gives the hypermiler in me a.... well, just you never mind but it does turn me on.

Do this and your Konnie will go longer between gas stops then your bladder can.
If it can't be fixed with a hammer you can sure as hell teach it a lesson.
