No cat and ceramic coating

I finally pulled the exhaust off and had it coated. I also cut the cat out. It is really smooth and pulls harder in the lower rpm's. It also runs cooler and there isn't as much heat on the shins. Now I need to take it in and get the pc3 mapped to fine tune it.

I hope you didn't breathe in any of the fibers that came lose when you dug the cats out.  That is some very toxic stuff and you do not want to get any of it in your lungs.  I would be tempted to just cut the cat sections out completely and weld in new pipe to replace it rather than dig the cats out.

Good post....You have to be careful with that stuff. Brake dust is not your friend either.

Looks awesome! I've been rebating something similar, and was curious - how did this affect the exhaust sound? Louder I hope?And it looks like you cut it right near the end (just past the "Y") to get at the cat - that about right? Any trouble cutting out the cat? Thanks for posting the pics!

The sound is deeper and just a little louder. There are actually 4 pieces in it, 2 on each side. they are about 3-4 inches long. I took a long masonry bit with a hammer drill to punch a few holes in it. Then i took a long chisel and knocked out the rest of it. If you cut the weld out, it is real easy to get to. I was lucky that the shop I took it to to weld it back didn't charge me and it only took him 5-10 minutes to weld it. I did make 2 marks on the pipe with a sharpie to make sure it lined up. It does feel like there is less heat while riding. I did let it idle after I was riding it and it didn't heat up as quickly on the display. It didn't reach the last 2 dashes on the gauge.

Update. I had a long ride to Florida this weekend to test it out. Before I got out of Atlanta, hit a wreck and was in stop and go traffic, then sitting still for 45 mins.. The temp was around 94-96. The temp gauge only raised to one bar above mid.. Last time I was in that it went to the top. The bike is running much cooler, not saying it is either the coating or the cat, but both seem to work good together. The color is the same, nice and shiny.  I did hit 130 at one point and cruised around 90 most of the time. I also hit some Florida liquid sunshine a couple of times which took the gauge down below the half way point. Sitting on it in stop and go traffic is much better. Power is more even and harder on the lower rpm. My gas mileage stayed the same as far as I can tell, was cruising faster this time.

This sounds interesting. I was not quit sure if removing cats will reduce the heat that one feel. I will be interested to know how it plays out for you.
