Veterans Day
« on: November 11, 2015, 05:28:37 AM »
How do you say thank you to those no longer here?

In Flanders Fields

In Flanders fields the poppies blow

Between the crosses, row on row,

That mark our place; and in the sky

The larks, still bravely singing, fly

Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago

We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,

Loved and were loved, and now we lie

In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:

To you from failing hands we throw

The torch; be yours to hold it high.

If ye break faith with us who die

We shall not sleep, though poppies grow

In Flanders fields.

— John McCrae

This is the first I've heard about this.

Me too. I have never seen any of the green lights.
I think the original idea was for everyone, home and businesses, to replace just one outside light with a green bulb for all year round so that vets would see them everywhere they go. Then somehow it distorted into show a green light just on Veteran's Day. Not sure if either idea is taking hold from what I've seen. I'm not a Vet, but if I was a Vet I would rather have a free cup of coffee more than a bunch of green lights, but like I said, I'm not a Vet. I'm thinking about just installing a light socket on an eave out front and putting a green LED bulb in it and leaving it on 24/7 just in case I'm wrong about what a Vet would like.

So it looks like this green light thing was just another 'Look at what we're doing to feel good about ourselves so you should shop here.' marketing scam created by walmart.

My next door neighbor has a green porch light.  Now I understand why.

I'm a Vet and as I said this is the first I've heard of this stuff. I'll take a good cup of coffee over a green light any day.

Same here.  The green light thing doesn't resonate with me.
