'08 C14 Dyno Run

Here is my Dyno run from over the weekend.  Temps were around 96deg at 75% humidity.

'08 Concours14 -- 150.8HP 100.3ft lb torque
Vance&Hines CSOne Slip On
Throttle Position Sensor tweaks to fix a lean surge condition (Done by dealer)

So that translates to 170 - 175 hp at the crank.  Not too shabby!

That seems high for what is a basically stock Concours 14.  A slip-on shouldn't make much difference, alone.  Are you running a commander or a reprogram of the ECU or something??

Nope, just the Throttle Position Sensor  tweaks.  I definitely noticed a change in power after the tweaks and a major drop in MPG....

What's going on at 3500 rpm? Did the dyno guy comment on this?

He did not say about the humpty at around 3500rpm...he did comment that the AFR was lean up to about 30% throttle and then rich at the very top end of the RPMs.

Mileage went from 40-44 MPG pre-tweaks to 33-37MPG post-tweaks.

Granted, I don't read every post or thread, but I have never heard of "tweaking" the TPS before.  Can you elaborate any more about what was done?  I am assuming this is some type of physical movement of it?  It just doesn't sound like a good idea.... if the TPS is lying to the ECU, the pre-programmed mixes might be way off.   It is not like a reflash/reprogramming of the ECU for performance, where the curves are carefully tweaked over the entire load/RPM band to match a more ideal setting for the actual bike, while looking at diagnostic equipment...

My master race mechanic friend also told me to point out that "Dyno numbers can be all over the place (inaccurate)"  and "At 96F temp, the correction factor will be huge. Correction factors are developed on averages. Not all motors respond the same."

Further, he pointed out that the graph doesn't say "WHP", which is what would normally appear for a wheel horsepower (which is to the ground).  150 is not outside of the "normal" range for the Concours *crank* horsepower.  In fact, my specs show 153 as the claim, WITHOUT ram-air (157.7 with).  Doesn't mean the graph is actually estimating WHP, just saying that is another possibility.

Yeah but the only way to directly measure crank horsepower is to remove the motor and hook it up directly to a dynamometer.  That would take some doing for a motorcycle engine.  Most if not all motorcycle dynamometers measure wheel horsepower.

Of course, but that doesn't mean the particular software used wasn't set to "estimate" the crank HP.  I know, that seems crazy, but I don't put anything past anything anymore :)
