When the Pirates-Lair back-rest combo was announced several people observed that it would be nice if it could also be used to mount a trunk. The first ones sold were too small to fit all trunks and it was intended solely as a support for his backrest. The Pirates-Lair rack sits 2-1/4" farther forward than the stock position to perfectly position the passenger's back-rest. In that position, with a trunk attached, the weight is situated forward and satisfies those people who wanted a a more central weight distribution for solo trips.

The Pirates-Lair rack is now long enough to mount any brand trunk, including the Givi Monokey trunks using the SW-motech kit. It is not drilled/tapped for the kit, but the hole locations are spot-drilled on the bottom. For those who might want to carry a passenger AND a trunk, I can make pairs of mounting rails that re-locate his rack rearward to the stock location.

Hopefully the change to Pirates-Lair's rack will increase its versatility, and meet the needs of everyone who wants a passenger backrest most of the time, but a trunk for occasional longer trips, solo, or with a passenger. Depending on the trunk mounting system, it may also fit with the Pirates-Lair rack in the forward position. This combination, with the optional rails, provides a luggage rack with almost 5" of forward / rearward movement.
