Sold the C10...
« on: November 04, 2020, 08:30:32 AM »
after 80,000+ miles and 13 years, I decided it was time for something different.  Bike was sold to a young guy who has commute plans for it.  Kinda sad, but it's also the longest I've ever owned a single bike.

 :'( but for the next guy  ;D

I sold one of my C10s (Ethel) and didn't miss her since I had Otto, but I do regret not getting Sanji back from Austria as she was unique, even if the engine was seized (overheated). Oh well, that's life.

At 13 years in I am finally starting to "get involved" with Vivian (my C14).
The recent MRP Flash and Corbin saddle have meant that she is now a joy to ride.
I still love riding Otto too  ;D
Damn, I got it bad don't I?  :rotflmao:

I've got the same disease, and I thought you {eventually} got Sanji back?

Unfortunately not. I flew to Austria, got picked up by Hans Dresler and the next day called my European Breakdown recovery.
They came and took the bike away but then once I had gotten home again they informed me that the vehicle was too old and not worth the cost of repatriating it so she got scrapped.  >:( :'(
If I'd known that that was a clause in the contract I would have rented a van for 4 days and driven there and back.
Sanji was unique as she was the only C10 that was painted black with silver stripes from the factory. She was one of the press demonstrator bikes in the UK. She was old and a bit ratty but we'd had 110k miles and 10 years together and I still miss her.
Her original engine lives on in Otto. His original engine is under my bench awaiting a total rebuild.

Then, in a sense, Sanji still lives.

So that the others understand what we mean by Sanji/Otto/etc,,, can you post a picture and an explanation?

Ride safe, Ted

PS: Boomer's one of the Mother Country guys that "talks funny", and he thinks we live in the Colonies.
He's also one of them "furiners" that is welcome at my home anytime.
Because of his location {and strange pronunciation}, he also names his bikes in a way that would be very difficult for us normal people to do..  :o

Oh: and Dave, you can ride my C-10 if you get withdrawal symptoms.

Let the flames begin!!

The easiest way to understand my bikes is to look here
http://gtr1000.com/main/mygtrs.htm

The UK registration numbers (tag?) currently end in 3 letters and I use those to get a name.
C833SNJ = 'Sanji'
G40OTO = 'Otto'
EU07VVN = 'Vivian'

Thanks Boomer.
{The lodging offer still stands},
and Dave, the ride offer stands too....

Boomer; Your naming process inspired me to look at the plates on my C-14.
But, after seeing them, I opted not to use your (bad) idea.  :battle:
ie; The letters on mine are FKF...   :rotflmao:

Thanks Ted, and vice versa but be aware that you may be on a foam bed in the lounge  ;)

FKF is a difficult one but could be "FranchesKa F.".
That's gotta be better than "F**KingFat"  :rotflmao:

In the US you can get almost any tag you want though.
Here we are restricted to a certain format.
Currently it is XXyyZZZ where:
XX is 2 letters that denote the area the vehicle was first registered in.
yy is 2 number denoting the half-year (March-August was 20, currently 70 until end of Feb, then 21, 71, etc.)
ZZZ is 3 random letters that generate a unique whole.
Anything deemed obscene or insulting is not allowed.
You can buy a number that was already issued and transfer it to your car but that's expensive.
