TPMS battery replacement by Fred Harmon
« on: March 26, 2019, 06:22:05 AM »
I just read a Facebook post that Fred Harmon can now
Replace batteries in both type sensers
I’m on the second set with sealed batteries and would
Like to replace mine since the tires are off
Anyone know where to ship them or has
Contact info for Fred Harmon?
He says it’s usually a one day turnaround as well
I haven’t had any luck trying to reach him
Through Facebook

That's not too bad if it's out of warranty.

I just changed the batteries in both front & rear TPMS Sensor Transmitters of my 08 C-14. It's Easy with a good soldering iron, flux & solder! YouTube has a couple of videos. Mine work great!! I can do the "non sealed" ones no problem if someone wants them done. Haven't looked at the ones on my 2016 yet but I'm sure they can't be hard to do.

The newer ones on your '16 are completely different; from Schrader rather than the mfg. in France, and it is a potted design. You <can> change the batteries but it involves cutting tools to open the sensor body and then a very careful battery removal followed but trying to solder to wires buried in epoxy. A friend of mine has one open right now and we are trying to figure out how to get the battery out without destroying the lead and / or PC board underneath the battery.

There is/ are YouTube videos on how to do it. As long as tour TPMS sensor is in good condition, it's pretty easy. The batteries are available at Digikey or eBay. I did my old Connie & they worked great. Unfortunately this bike had some tire sealing goop in the wheels that corroded my front sensor useless.

The newer models come with the newer sensors, which are epoxy-sealed.  Replacing THOSE batteries would be more than a nightmare.

I saw someone selling replacement TPMS Sensors reprogrammed to work with the C14s. It's still needs to be programmed to the bike via KDS. I wonder if Steve at Shoodaben has hacked Auto 434 mhz TPMS Sensors yet?

That's my ad on ebay.  Steve's not in a position to do the 315 sensors but someone else is working on them for the North American bikes.

Can you/ Is there a way to code new sensors to the original bikes TPMS codes so KDS Programming isn't needed?

I haven't tried to do that but will give it a try later today.

Answer: No.  I did the 'copy & program' to a new sensor but it came up with a Failed code.  BigRed in the other thread says he got it to copy but hasn't posted the final outcome yet.
