Well, I did it. I got my hands on some BMW 1600lt arm rests. My father in law is selling his bike so I asked if I could have the armrests because his grandson really wants to ride on my new bike with me. The only way he would ride, and my wife would let him, was if he had some more "protection". So i pulled the arm rests off, took apart his top box to find the inner brackets, put it all back together and started on mine.
I had to deal with some interior moulding for placement. I also had to put them in a place that was the most sturdy, user friendly, be able to open the top box and also be able to swing the arm rest up. So after a bit I found the right placement and put it together. My son loves it and he is certainly the envy of his classmates when I pick him up from elementary school.
I've attached a couple of pics. If I wasn't able to get the armrests from my father in law, I actually looked on line for office chair replacement arm rests and put an L bracket on the front of the box. It would have been relatively cheap but they wouldn't have been able to swing up and they would be pretty snug on the sides of the passenger. But I'm pretty sure it would have worked. Anyway here's some pics. My next project is finding fork mount brackets, lighting kit and running lights so I can be really visible. If there are any suggestions let me know. I want to keep the price reasonable.
