LED headlight
« on: July 03, 2020, 02:01:48 PM »
Has anyone within the past 6 months replaced their C10 halogen with a LED? If so, which manufacturer did you go with? How many chips does it have? etc.

Too many choices and I'm not sure which bulbs are legit. Amazon pricing sometimes makes you feel like it may not be the best purchase.

This is like an oil question. Everyone has an opinion.
There are all kinds of LED's and all claim to be the best.
Prices vary from approx. $200 to $10..
The Lumen claims are all over the place...

I installed the Beamtech H4 headlight.
Many others are also using it.

NOTE: I tried others and felt that they blinded oncoming traffic with Glare.
The Beamtech has a cutoff at the top that decreases that glare, and it lights the road up well.

Of the ones I tested I found the best ones had rows of 3 or 4 dots and a kind of lip or cup for the dipped beam end (farthest from the base).
These lines of 3/4 LEDs best simulate the filaments in a halogen bulb and so most closely replicate their pattern in a conventional headlight.

This gives a good clean flat cut off and makes it less likely that you will dazzle other road users.
Certainly I never get "flashed" by oncoming cars when I am on dipped beam.
Once you have fitted the LED you will probably need to adjust the headlight as their "filament" positioning is not always perfect.
I had to adjust mine down substantially but compared to the halogen it replaced,...well lets just say I'm not going back.  ;D

Are you going to share with the class the brand and cost of your personal favorite?  :)

Not sure it'll do you much good as I am in the UK and the one I have fitted to my C10 headlamp I got in 2017 and is no longer available on Amazon.
I recently fitted these to a friends Triumph Trophy and he loves them.

Or as my Mum used to tell me "Fools seldom differ"  :rotflmao:

I still have the OEM factory bulbs in my C14 but I added two 10W spots on the mirrors for highbeam.
Compared to the C10, the C14 headlights are awesome.

FYI,
The ring on these bulbs is key to the headlight frame but the bulb is NOT keyed to the ring.  If you remove the bulb from the ring to install the dust cover, like I did, be sure to keep track of the orientation between them.  If the bulb is installed 180 degrees out, it will aim high on low beams and the sharp cutoff will be on the bottom.  Once I removed the bulb, turned it 180 degrees and reinstalled, the beam aliment was identical to the H4 (9003) it replaced.  No adjustment required.

Thanks for the tip on these bulbs.  Picked up a pair for $33 off ebay.

Pic below is from the included instructions.  I guess I got in to big of a hurry to read them completely.

Thats a good point.
Can you advise everyone how to determine the correct orientation?
I would do so, {I did position mine when I did the install}, but my memory sux.
