Title: Does the Vstream screen fit a 2016?
Post by: copbike on April 19, 2018, 07:47:24 AM
Does anyone know for sure if the Vstream windscreen (N20102) will fit a 2016?  The website doesn’t list a fitment for a 2016.

I found one on eBay, but I’m not sure I trust it.  Everywhere else doesn’t seem to have them.  Your best bet would be to contact national cycle directly and see what they say.

I have the vent type newer OEM windshield on my '10 model so the holes are still in the same places, however there are some hardware differences. Screws and washers that are different
so some scrounging and ordering previous years small parts may be necessary, but I'd be very surprised if the Vstream didn't fit once the little pieces were there in hand.

But to be true to your question, no I don't know for sure.

Got a reply from National Cycle.  The Vstream will not fit the 2016.

Guess I’ll go with the CalSci screen

Well, that sucks.  I’m happy with mine.  Works much better providing protection than my Cee Bailey.   Of, course, I am concerned that the bracket mount could fail some time in the future...

That is my understanding, also... that the windshield support's dimensions and holes are all identical on all C14's, regardless of year.  The 2008-2014 all have the same exact attachment hardware (retaining clamps, washers, bolts, and gaskets), regardless of screen.  But the 2015+ used different attachment hardware for the newer "vented" OEM screen.  So, if one were to get the previous attachment hardware, someone with a 2015-2018 C14 should be able to mount ANY screen that would fit a 2008-2014 C14 (and vice-versa.

Such parts should be readily orderable from a Kawasaki dealer.

FIFY.

I agree except for the years you mentioned. I know, picky picky picky.   :P

Drat!  I keep making that same mistake (2016 instead of 2015).  I will edit the original.  Thanks

I wouldn't be in such a rush to spend your money. On one of the forums I'm sure someone has put a Vstream on a Gen 2.1 C14 (2015+) and can help you...we just gotta find them.

Marty, did I read correctly, that you put the newer Kawi windscreen on your bike, the windscreen with the vent?

Yes I did. A friend of mine who is very tall had to get a taller screen for his '15 C14 and sold me his. It fits and works fine for me on my '10 C14.

Thank you Marty. Do you find the vent does anything or is it "gimmicky"?

Best I've tried for eliminating that invisible person behind me pushing my head down. I  only need the vent open when the windshield is up 1/4 or more. Not for cooling air just back pressure relief. Like seats and bars it's subjective and not for everyone...to some it does nothing and becomes "gimicky".

Sorry if this is wrong section to post this- but I have a nearly new Vstream windshield from my 2008 if anyone interested.

I ended up with a huge Jurock

$70 plus shipping

Pulled the stock windscreen off my bike. And then needed to perform surgery to remove the "dampers" (aka rubber gaskets) on both sides to remove them.

I still tore them in a few places, so a trip to Partzilla and $24 later (including shipping), two new pairs of gaskets are on the way.

Bought a used VStream. Looking forward to checking it out.

The old "dampers" would probably work, but as the tears occurred around the holes, that's prime entry point for water.

I have removed my gaskets many times now, since I change the shield twice a year.  It seems every time they stick and want to tear.  It does help to clean and "wax" the shield before putting the gasket back on so they  won't stick as much the next removal.  But if it is the first removal ever- be careful and go slowly!

I'm not getting what you are saying.... and I've been in rainstorms where I rode thru a tornado, and hurricanes, drinking from the firehose for 8 hours straight.... rain coming from every direction... and the inside surface of the screen had as much rain hitting it as the outside at times... so what "sealing' thing are you talking about....the screws thread into the bracket, and it gets wet from the backside, when the storm is bad enough....

kinda like this...

I think/thought he was talking about the flat rubber gaskets under the windscreen bolting plates that press against the clear windscreen.  Those are there to absorb shock and spread load to prevent cracking the plastics, I don't think it has much to do with keeping water out (although it might, a little).

It's simple, MOB.

Gaskets. The term. They generally mean seal-off-the-process-from-outside. In this case, water.

Like you, I've been outside in inclement weather. Many, many times. Like you, I'm old. I've been around the block at least a couple of times.

Looking down into the brackets that move the windscreen up and down, I see what looks to be ...

....

wait for it ....

metal.

Should water get through/around the "gaskets" (aka "dampers), I'm a'thinkin' there just might be some rust a'happenin'.

I might be wrong, but then again, I've been rained on. Many times. And sometimes I've seen what rain does to metal/iron/ferric stuff.

Yep, I've thought of the "shock" issue as well.

Bottom line is, these "dampers" have outlived their useful "damping" lives. Time to replace them along with a (new to me) windscreen. I don't want rust and I don't want a cracked windscreen.

I have a kit that is supposed to refurbish the OEM windscreen and I'll use it -- after I clean it thoroughly. Needed to take the windscreen off.

The big issue was some pest control anti-wasp spray that got underneath the eaves in the shed where I had the bike parked. Splashed on the windscreen (without me knowing it) and I've got some opaque areas that I'm not happy with.

Interesting.  I also have a similar problem on one of my shields.  There are some opaque splotches.  I have no idea what got on it, but it woulldn't wash off.  In an even more bizarre twist, in the past when it happened I thought they were permanent damage but they came off, accidentally, while cleaning the windscreen.  But I can't remember what I used.  I actually think it was Mother's paint polish... (the non-wax waxing stuff).

I'm thinking some Brasso on a clean rag with liberal application elbow grease will take care of opaque areas. It works on plastic headlight lenses and watch crystals.

I wonder how the headlight restore kits would work.
