Based on years of cogitation, I think helmets should be flat on top. That way, you could put it down on the ground upside down, gloves wouldn't fall out, and you could easily pick it up with the chin strap.

So all you helmet manufacturers, this idea is now out there, no patents to worry about. Go for it.
