Tools for the road
« on: June 06, 2013, 10:57:58 PM »
I know I've seen lists of suggested tools members take with them on road trips but I can't seem to get any search results.
I want to put together a good basic repair/maintenance tool roll. Suggestions?

For anything longer than 3 days, in addition to the Kwak tool kit I carry:

12mm allen wrench for the front axle.
10, 12, 17mm combo wrenches.
10, 12, 17mm 3/8" drive deep sockets.
3/8" drive flex handle (non ratcheting).
12v compressor (many varieties to choose from, pick small)
Fresh pack of sticky-string tire plugs, don't forget the reamer and insertion tool.
Credit card, duct tape, some baling wire, and a barely discernible pack of Beech-Nut gum (aka  a gravel bar). Oh, and water.

Nitrile gloves are always in one fairing pocket, along with a small rag or two, spare bulbs, and a beater set of 'shop' leather gloves.

A big cresent wrench, plugs and a mini compressor. A Leatherman knife, and the factory tool kit.

I do what Rick and jimmymac do and I wrap it all in a towel with a few rubber bands and some zip ties. The Green Slime folks make a handy little compressor I use.

Nice list! I'm putting one together right now for a road trip.

I would add a small digital meter. I got one from the Shack a few years ago. I've also thought about adding a set of jumper cables.

Here is a favorite I saved.  Lots of good info, check lists, and ideas.  This might make a good sticky.
