Tire sizing....
« on: June 15, 2013, 06:59:32 PM »
Hi All, I just recently sold my 86 connie, and am in preparation for picking up an 06 concours tomorrow. Happy father's day right? I knew the 86 had some odd tire sizes and my options were getting slim, but it seems like the 06 is no better?! I've seen threads about goldwing sized tires and such, but haven't found a central repository of what my "options" are outside of the 120/70/18s and 150/80/16s. As it sits, not even bike bandit can get me a set of matching tires at this point. A local shop wants about ~$470 for a set of pirelli angels installed, but I'm not married to spending that much...so what are my options? Thanks, -Derick.

For radial fronts, it's probably better to use a 110/80R18 than the 120/70R18, better match to the 3" rim. Maybe this will give you more choices.

Following the advice of this forum I've gone through a LOT
of tires over the last ten years / two Connies.
My current favorite combo is a Bridgestone BT-023 front
and a Shinko 777 rear. Everything I could want for
less than 200.00 a set, delivered.

That's a fairly current list of the tires that will fit the C10.  I just put on a set of Avons (Azaro/Storm combo) and I'm REALLY happy with them.

A tire Tread can go for days. Everyone has an opinion and all opinions are pretty good...

I'll start it off. His list is pretty thorough.
For generalities,,,
The Wing sizes will work.

What type riding do you do?
Fast twisties, or miles and miles of cruising?

The Belted tires will feel different than the Radials.
If your push the twisties, I'd stay with the radials. The belted tires will do the twisties, but the radials give you a tiny bit more grip.

For mileage, the belted tires will last longer than the radials.

Ride safe, Ted

Michelin PR3 in front in 110/80 size

Yeehaw. Tahrs.

Shinko 777 150/60x16 in the back.

My third PR3 is in the shed waiting to go on in place of the PR2 that I ordered by mistake. Also a great performing tire, btw.

That's my first 777. I liked it enough to order another. I tried the 890Journey Shinkos, two in a row were out of round. I put about 6k on the second one(free replacement for the first) and finally got sick of it.

Both Shinko and Michelin have been stand up companies for tire issues. (I had an issue with a CommanderII Michelin last year, they issued a full refund. Easy peasy.

Did you get any wet weather riding on them?  I found that the rear was slipping way too easily when the pavement was wet.  Just wondering if it was me or the tire...

Haha but in my defense, I asked a question based SOLELY on tire size...not which ones better. ;)

That said, I went with the Battleax set with the 110 up front. That definitely did open some doors..not many, but moreso than I had prior, thanks to Jon's google doc.

Nothing crazy bad like Metz880, but I was quite easy in the rain on them.

Previous tire was a Mich Commander II which slipped out very easy, but was excellent upright in the rain.
