1992 C10 - bright red! SOLD - REGRET IT
« on: January 31, 2013, 06:47:41 AM »
$1200, located in the foothills of NC.  Medical issues forced me off of it nearly 5 years ago, and I'm tired of staring at it wishing I could crawl back on.

The Ugly:
Carbs need to be cleaned, again - been awhile since it was run properly.  Carbs were serviced last year, but bike then sat again.  Bike starts and runs with 1/2-3/4 choke - runs great above 3500RPM or so.
Tires - They are round(ish), they hold air, the front is cupped.  The rear could go another thousand or so.
Battery - battery is dead - holds a charge for a day or two before dieing.

The Good:
Newish alternator swapped in 2-3 years ago
Corbin seat
Bright red paint looks great!
Tank Bra
Heated grips
Heavy weighted bar ends to redice vibration
Upper and mid Baker Built Airwings
Saddle bags in great, lookproof condition
All the plastic is in good shape
Antlers 100% intact, color matched blank plates included!
Autocom Duo+ system already installed.  Two headsets included
RAM Mount used to hold a Garmin Street Pilot III.  Can purchase a new upper for it to hold another device.

Indeed they do!  Rolled it out of the garage, hosed it off and let dry for a bit.  Still a few water drops, sorry abut those.

Indeed - Mr. Larry Reeves, a coworker of mine purchased the bike.  He spent the $700 or so I estimated it would take to put it back in top condition, and had 6 months of blissful riding - even letting me ride it on a short jaunt or two.

Unfortunately, last Friday a teenager pulled out in front of Larry and Larry passed away.  I'm not sure if he ever joined this or the other forums, but I know he had interaction with Steve in FL (carb work) and likely lots pf PMs on improvements to the bike.

Here is a link to the news article:

Did anyone know his screen name here?   Mods, can you look it up by name?

Larry is still missed and often talked about at the office.  My cubicle is right next to his, and he still frequently gets visitors - both people that know, and people that don't know that are looking for him for help or assistance.

I have been back a dozen times to look at the accident scene.  He basically came over the crest approaching a blind driveway.  Doing the speed limit, it would be impossible in a car to avoid someone pulling out there without going offroad.  I followed up with two different witnesses (this happened right outside our office), and he laid the bike down before he hit the car.  Inexperience?  New rear time lost grip?  Mechanical failure?  I don't know.  Due to selling him the bike, AND being directly responsible for him being in the office that day instead of a conference with the rest of the department, I blamed myself for a week or two.  I don't anymore, but still get to go see the company shrink on friday.

Big hint - don't sell a bike to a friend.   :(

The admins have a few more tools at their disposal, but it still depends on what a user enters into their profile.

I came up with lbreevesii as a potential username, last active June 24.

My heart goes out to Larry's family and friends, I know he will be missed.

Best friend Paul and I are tooling around southern Utah, on our last day heading home to CO. I was in the lead, a car pulls out from the shoulder to do a U turn on a real sweet mountain road. I swerve into the left lane to avoid, then look in my rear view mirror. I see no headlight, only a car stopped in the middle of the road...

Paul left us quickly, while doing something he truly enjoyed. He wasn't laying in a sterile white room with monitors, and wires, and tubes, and bags, passing time until his soul decided it was time to move on. I take a certain comfort in knowing that, maybe you will too.

Would of, should of, could of.....

Rick
