Yes, these brakes need fresh fluid.  XR6 and I have been in contact by PM.

On my 08 it was congealed brake fluid in the rear Master Cylinder.
I ended up replacing the master cylinder.
I got lucky as it didn't affect the ABS pump.
It's my own fault as I rarely use the rear brake and hadn't bled it through with fresh fluid for 5+ years.
I now make a point of using the rear brake as often as I can and I bleed both brakes and the clutch through at least once per year.

Hi XR6

It not very common but a handful of us have had the problem.

It's me that does these up.  If interested, send me a PM and we can work out a bit better deal.

GTR1400 2008

I have gone for a "Warrant of fitness" for my bike and the Rear Brake has stuck down and won't come back up. (There is no stone caught in the linkage.)

Can anyone help with the possible issue. A dealer that currently has the bike for "sale on behalf" recons it is likely the ABS pump. They have checked for seized piston and linkage and say its all free!!!???

I have changed brake fluid regularly but have never activated the ABS pump. Either riding the bike or activating it electronically. There is no ABS light on.

Thanks.

Hey all! I used to have a '94 with a bunch of stuff done to it that I sold back in '15 to buy an FJ-09 (which I still have). I inherited my dad's '05 when he passed away back in 2019, which hadn't been ridden since 2017. Just got it back on the road, currently working out a sticky clutch but she runs great! Will be nice touching base with y'all again.

Welded in some more floor plates for the cage in my drag car this weekend. Also finally installed all my switchback stuff and tail tidy on my 2010. I forgot how much I liked the extra lighting.

Accessories and Modifications - C10 / Freewheel Starter Relay
« Last post by berna1201 on February 24, 2024, 02:33:03 AM »
A freewheel diode or non-return diode, is placed with a polarity inverted to that of the power supply and in parallel to the inductance coil of the relay. The use of a diode in a relay circuit prevents the appearance of huge voltage peaks when the power is cut off.

Following a discussion on freewheel relays, he raises questions about why the solders of the mini relays, especially the starter, the fuse boxes of GTR 1000, and certainly other motorcycles, had an unfortunate tendency to break.

When you press the start button, it activates the mini relay and this one, the power relay that sends current to the starter, it is then created in the coil a powerful inductor current.

Which, when you stop pressing the button it changes the polarity of the coil and the current goes up until it finds a weakness, and in our case, it is often the welds that toast, see the mini relays, that take each time these blows of cutting.

With a diode, the reverse overvoltage "turns in circles" in the coil until disappearing by heating in the coil.
