Show us your twisties!
« on: May 24, 2011, 09:50:16 AM »
I only have 3 halfway decent twisties on my daily commute.

Here's two of them, a nice S curve actually. It's hard to tell from the pics but both curves are very nicely banked. The first pic is looking towards the east and the second is looking back towards the west and that curve continues for a bit behind me in the pic.

I think of the 35mph limit as more of a suggestion. It's very easy to double that speed (and then some, so I've been told   ;) ). I can't do that once the corn gets too high though since the corners become nearly blind then.

edited to add these great motorcycle road websites.

I opened this thread think there was gonna be some entirely different pics.   ;D

I will try to get some pics of the road right outside my front door.  I have some great twisties here and I enjoy every chance I get to go rail them.
Keeping the economy going, one tank of fuel and two tires at a time.

If it is an 'S' curve, does that count as one twisty, or two?

Since I only have 3 on my commute, I'm counting it as 2.

I know, I know, I'm twisty deprived. Not too many of 'em out in corn country.

Living on a former lakebed (the lake is still here, just much lower than in dinosaur times), with a strong emphasis on the grid system here in the flat terrain (you can easily see structures 30 miles away, such as smokestacks), twisties?  Yeah, right!

However, less than an hour away, we have...

Wolf Creek
Monte Cristo Canyon
East Canyon
Big Cottonwood Canyon
Little Cottonwood Canyon
Old Snowbasin Road

Plus many other options within several hours ride.  Of course, some of these are still SNOWED IN at the moment... the price you pay for living near pretty mountains.  That and all the other people on those roads recreating as well.

Johnson's Pass, somewhat close to Miller Motorsports Park, is one of our fallbacks until the funner/longer canyons finally defrost...

Johnson's Pass
2006 w/50,000+ miles and a few bruises.

MCL Fork Brace & Handlebar Risers.  Bergmen Quick Release Tank Kit, Pilot GT Front/Avon Venom Rear tire.  Trunk w/spoiler.  NGK DR8EIX plugs.  Piece of foam in airbox.  Beads on seat.  Bafflectomized.  Murphs Kneesavers & Fuse Block.  Cee Bailey Winscreen w/vent.  Heated grips.  'Custom' mirrors.

We (me and another on 2 Connies) will be in the Denver area at end of next week from Seattle. Hope the weather will allow us to get up on some of those good Rocky mountain roads.

Colorado roads are just so amazing....I drove all over in my nieces Murano in late October-crazy icy mountain passes and such---Closed 34(is that the rocky mountain hwy?) cost me a 3 hour detour(my fault) to get to The Stanley Hotel(Shining) and even stumbled upon "OH My God Road" around a casino town....Great times even in a cage!

Full disclosure.
I don't know exactly where this photo was taken but it is typical of around here.
Although, it is hard to find "mountains" as big as this one.  When I travel I stay away from the centre of the continent because I've seen
enough "flatlands".
