2001 ZG1000 Checking in from Los Angeles
« on: March 02, 2015, 12:37:48 PM »
Hello folks. My name is William.
I just picked up a 2001 Concours in fantastic condition for 2k at a local dealer.

I love the way this bike drives. Like a precision instrument compared to my old 82 yamaha maxim.

I will be taking this to a performance bike mechanic soon. What should I have them check for concerning these bikes?

I am available most Sundays for a ride if anyone is in the area.
PM me here.

Welcome from VA!  Nice looking bike.  How does the bike run?  How many miles are on it?  Are the tires good?  Have the fluids been changed lately (do you know the date or mileage)?  Have the valves been checked or adjusted recently?  The list is endless.

Check the bolt that secures the fairing stay (tube frame) to the steering neck.  They have a habit of coming loose, breaking, and damaging the fairing.  40lbs of air in the front tire, 42 in the rear is about standard.  Expect to get about 200+ miles before switching to reserve which is about 1 gallon.  most bikes get about 38 to 42 mpg unless you dog it or drive very conservative.

Watch out at very slow speeds in the parking lot or maneuvering to park (like tippy-toeing backing up).  This bike is very top heavy and will fall over and take you with it at those speeds.  You will then be the newest member of the CDA club.  She handles very well at anything over 15mph.

Use the search feature on here.  There is a lot of valuable info to read.  Most questions have been answered a few different ways.
