Taller Windshields?
« on: January 27, 2015, 10:34:36 AM »
Any recommendations on taller windshields?
I notice if I duck down a little bit I can all but eliminate the wind noise in my helmet.  I assume mine is stock, end to end it measures 19".

I saw this online: http://www.clearviewshields.com/motorcycle-windshield/kawasaki/concours-shields/
If I went with them, I'd probably go with the 25" tall and the 2" wider.

I've got one of those Clearview windscreens, it's the 25 inch tall GT (wide version) with the vent. It's like new with the exception of a couple of scuff marks in the black paint at the bottom of the screen. The scuffs are so small that they don't show up when it's mounted on the bike. The screen came off of a friends bike, with 4900 miles on the bike, about 2000 miles on the screen. I notice on the Site that it sells for $238.00 I'll let this one go for $100.00 with $20.00 shipping.

I picked up a Cee Bailey with a vent a while back.  24.5" as I remember... (5'8", 30" inseam).  I like it much better than the stock screen, but I haven't tried any of the other options.

There are several options, and the general concensus is that the stock windscreen is sorta kinda adequate, but that there are MUCH better options out there.

I'm sure others will post up shortly...

Fixed that for ya.... The stock shield I hated on the first ride home and replaced ASAP..... Really like my Cee Bailey for a quite buffet free ride with helmet shield open....

I have a Rifle, which I got too tall on purpose and trimmed an inch at a time until I was happy.

The big problem with the OEM 'shield is that stupid recurved lip at the top, which just generates turbulence.  I repurposed my OEM unit to fit on the Madstad brackets on my Wee-Strom, cutting a little over two inches off the top and reshaping the sides.  Without that top flip it works great on the 'storm.

If you are certain you don't like the stocker, you might try the saw of your choice and just shorten it up a bit and see how you like it.

I too like my tall Cee Baily's with the vent. Mine is the tallest they made at the time, 26"? I'm 6ft. 32" inseam.

Love my V- Stream.  With the shield all the way up, there is no buffetting and it is quiet, but I do have to look through it, which is fine for the long haul and when I get to the twisties, I just lower it to look over it.

There are a couple of ways to avoid buffeting caused by the windshield. One is to have a fairly tall shield, where you can just look over it and the air stream hits the top of your helmet, not your ears.

The second is to have a fairly short windscreen where the helmet, head and ears are all out in the clean air stream, again no buffeting. With this arrangement, the air which just clears the windshield hits your chest, so you have to lean forward more at speed to balance the force.

The miserable stock windshield has a shape and height that looks good in a show room, but is awful for buffeting when actually riding. I think that cursed flip top makes things worse.

Purchased and installed a Clearview windshield. 25" tall and +2 on width.
I am not used to looking through a windshield but no issues.  It was noticeably quieter. In fact, I can hear what the motor sounds like now.  :)

Sprinkle a little water on the shield, face the bike into the sun and attempt to look through.
