Removed tank emblems
« on: May 30, 2011, 03:11:47 PM »
I decided to remove the tank emblems after seeing an 06 without them.  Really brings the dark blue paint out. I made it a father and son project for a few hours. After getting all the emblem tape off we cut and polished the bike and then put two coats of wax on her. The Blue Bomber never looked so good! Now it is time for a nap!!

How did you do it? I want to do the same thing. I was told use hairdryer then dental tape to saw it back in forth and then goo be gone.
Please share your tips. Looks way better with out the emblems IMHO!!! nice.

Well, give your self 2-3 hours to complete the project. I use fishing line and worked it back and forth between the tank and the emblem. took all of 30 sec to get them off. Next comes the hard part. Getting the old tape off. I put some WD-40 on the tape and worked it off with my hand with rubber gloves on. That took the most time. After I got the tape off I polished the tank with a buffer.  Then I applied 2 coats of wax. The good news is my bike sat covered most of its life so the paint fad under the emblems and the rest of the tank was not bad. The most important thing is to have fun with it and take your time. I would like to see a photo of how your turned out.
