Long Ride 2014 for Charity in Oz

If you are interested in some iron butt stories-

Our Concours is going to get a little dirty and bug splattered...

The wife and I are getting ready for our Long Ride to start at the end of September.  It's a cancer charity ride done here.  Last year they raised close to $300k for the Prostate Cancer Foundation in Australia.  We will be doing roughly 6500kms (approx 3900miles) over a 12-14 day period.  It will be our longest, continuous ride to date on the Concours.  We're just a little excited.

Details cut and pasted below:

"The ride will take us from Canberra through Victoria, New South Wales, South Australia and the Northern Territory!  Our group is supported by the ADF and more specifically the Chief of Defence Forces, Australia.  He is a rider and will be partaking in the ride!  We expect some good media coverage of the launch.  Additionally along the way we will be stopping at several of the RAAF bases and doing bike shows, sausage sizzles, and small parades (hey, it pays to have their top dog in our group!)  Many of the towns will be holding Main Street bike shows and fairs for our arrival.

They are expecting approximately 500 motorcycles to converge on Uluru from all over the country.  Even some AusPost riders are making it on their delivery 125 Hondas!  There is a contingent of about 80 of us from Canberra, not all of them are doing the full ride.  Many just do sections for a day or two and then peel off.  Or some ride up and then ship their bikes back.  We will be doing the full ride up and back."

Some curious statistics from the 2007, 2008, 2010, and 2011 Long Rides:
“Collectively we rode some 3.5million Kms, 7 bookings for speeding, no motorcycle broke down, only three people filled their petrol tanks with diesel, we wore out something like $2.8 mil dollars worth of tires, there were two dogs on the ride, there were 5 side cars, 25 trailers, 4 sets of family with father mother, daughter or son, one chap travelled all the way from England to ride, a lady and two gents came from the US of A, 3 people from Hong Kong, two bikes had a puncture, one road accident due to a kangaroo, 4 off road bikes bit the dust, and the oldest rider was 72 years old and rode longer and faster than many half his age.  Grahame and son Toby (12yrs old) rode a 1954 panther side car from Sydney to Sydney over 4200Ks – the best bonding ever for a father and son – we are all proud of both of them.”

Seriously though, I wish you the best. I've done that distance in about that time, the C14 will be the least challenged member of your trio. Enjoy!

Sounds epic! Would love to do that. Just a matter of time and money.

Good luck and have a fun time. Have lost many friends and family to "C".  Seems it is a world wide menace, and not a respecter of any race, creed, color, sex, or nationality.  Hope a/the cure is found some day soon.   Rode parade style at 70+ MPH with 500+ bikes one time, for around 25 miles. Fun but a little scary...   Y'all be safe when in larger groups... tp
