OK my West trip has taken a turn towards the southeast.
« on: May 19, 2011, 01:58:38 PM »
So Hit me with the places I should see, roads I should ride, places I should eat and camp. quirky out of the way places. Things if I only go this way once, I should not miss. We hope to end up on the coast of the Carolinas? maybe depending on cash and how A$$ holds up. Thanks
Tim

I don't know where you are starting from. Do you want to head far enough south into Georgia for the quirkiness of Helen and Daloneaga head on to the Dragon from there. If you are in the Carolinas -down south by Augusta or on the beach?

:offtopic:

Do you ever get to Cassoday, KS.  Might not be too far from NE-OK...

Now back to cool roads in the southeast, sorry for the delay...

In GA, ?Helen is really worth a visit, but stay away from there on weekends. I think about half of Hotlanta comes up for the weekend. Google up motorcycle campgrounds, you'll find a lot of 'em in the area. I've never been there(yet). Will be up there this October. Both of these are m/C only campgrounds. There are others.

While in NC mountains, do Cherohala Skyway, TN south from Telico Plains to GA 60 south to Suches, hook a left on GA 180. Go to US 129. From there? Down to Helen? If you stop for a break at the only gas station in Suches, you can look across hy 60 and see where TWO(Two Wheels Only) used to be. They closed a couple of months ago. There is a campground just out of Suches on 180, on your right. Some where along the line while in the NC mountains, make sure you hit Wayah RD. Google is your friend.

There are a lot of water falls in the area, do check some of 'em out.

Most of the M/C campgrounds only run about $15 per night. Neat experience if you've never hit one before. I like 'em.

I'm sure others will be along to fill in more info.

BTW, unless you have a really imperative reason, steer clear of Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge TN area, can you say gridlocked ugly traffic?

BTW, pretty much all of the SE except Floriduh is helmet mandatory, and I believe all are CC friendly, but do check. If you get a chance, try some moonshine.

On the first Sunday of the month about 4000 of your closest friends converge on this very small town.  the best part is that it is bikes of all types, lots of HD yes, but there is also a bunch of other stuff as well.  I have seen a few C-10s down there now and again.  The best part is the old vintage stuff!

I try and make it down once a year or so...
